    Country Bend Campground

    Great experience!

Big things happening at Country Bend Campgrounds in Montrgromy Co, IL. This beautiful campground has many things to offer and is only a few minutes from the local drive in movie theater in Litchfield Illinois. It has a pool, swing sets, playground, cabins, ponds with stocked fish, beautiful walking trails, camping, welcome center, baseball field, volleyball, games, horseshoes, paddle boats, miniature golf, and so much more. This family run business is under new management and is welcoming new seasonal campers and day campers with competitive pricing. This beautiful campground is nestled in a scenic area in the country and is pet friendly. It has clean shower houses with warm water. We just purchased our seasonal campsite earlier in the season. Come check out this amazing campground and all it has to offer! Our rough collies will be joining us at this dog friendly campground! There is always something to do here and the owners strive to make it a family place by providing many activities on the weekends. The owners have done an amazing job on this campground and have made it one of the best campgrounds around to create that lasting experience with our children before they grow up!!!

    Shady Rest campground

Really great campground. Good mix of tents and RVs. Bath house was very well kept and clean. Showers ran cold at first but after a few mins it gets warmer! There were plenty of pit toliets through out the campground and trash cans. My tent site was clean, good flat spot for tent, picnic table and fire pit with attached grill.

The Concession building in the park is closing. No boat rentals, selling everything he has on the shelf.

Caught a few bass and and good amount of hiking. Large trail around the whole lake, smaller trails lead to sites around the different campgrounds.

    Beaver Dam State Park Campground

    Nice campsites

All sites are shaded and mostly level with pull-thru or back-in parking. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring with a grate over it. Each site has electric, however the water spigots are scattered about. The restroom and shower house is very clean.

There is a nice walking trail path that goes around the exterior of the lake. The lake has boat access and some good fishing spots. There is also a restaurant and store on the lake. The breakfast at the restaurant is great! Mosquitoes are bad, remember to bring repellent.

    Cahokia RV Parque

Nice close park to St. Louis

Pet-friendly, full hookups, space for our larger rig and parking around for extra vehicle. Laundry and propane on site. Spaces were a little close together, but minutes from downtown St. Louis, and staff was friendly and accommodating. Also, fantastic restaurant right on site -- Sawmill BBQ!

    Cahokia RV Parque

Close to STL, beautiful bathrooms, restaurant on site, after hours check in

I specifically would like to point out things that I look for when booking because I’m usually already on the road when trying to find a place to stay. There was after hours check in! But also a so friendly staff in the office. Beautiful coded bathrooms with showers. They were heated and warm and very well marked.
We did get a 30amp spot, because we have a van with solar panels and didn’t need to hook up. From doing this we were placed under street lights so they were always on and bright directly on our van. The next night they let us move to a 50 amp. The 50 amp spaces were the only ones with firepits. Rvs are close to one another but I was completely okay with that. There was road noise, quite a bit. But large trash bins and a great bbq restaurant on the grounds! I was planning on grabbing a gallon of milk when we got there...there really is nothing around the rv park! Maybe a couple gas stations at best, but if you need groceries or anything, stop and get them before you get close. Stop in the town before.

Oh and an awesome playground for the kids!!

    Cahokia RV Parque

    Cahokia RV Parque, IL

We chose Cahokia RV Park because of its close proximity to St. Louis Missouri. We stayed in a gravel site with a concrete pad, fire pit, picnic table and full-hook ups. The spaces are tighter, but that was expected being closer to a city. There is a playground, pool and pond area to walk around. We were pleased with the cleanliness of the bathrooms and showers and had no major complaints. The price reflected what we got out of our stay.

    Great family friendly campground

Great place to stay and feel part of the community.  Pretty scenery to walk around.  Plenty of lakes/ponds to fish.  We couldn't boat while there due to COVID but look forward to going back and taking our kayaks.  Attentive and Friendly camp hosts. Pet friendly. Close to town if you've forgotten anything or want to have a restaurant dinner. Close to the highway for easy access.  Full hookup available. Monthly or Season also available.

    St. Charles County Klondike Park

Fantastic Camping Just Off The Katy Trail

I have bike-packed along the Katy and this is an excellent spot for an overnight(s) stay. It is a tough, but short, climb from the trail. You may have to walk up the hill - challenge made :-) . This is a St. Charles County Park and it is well maintained. They also have small cabins though pretty basic. Make sure to store your food securely overnight - the racoons are pretty thick and hungry at night. I have also done short bike-packing trips from Chesterfield and St. Charles for an overnight(s) stay. If you need it, grab food in Augusta or Defiance before arriving. There are no services in the park.

Guide to O'Fallon

Cabin camping options near O'Fallon, Illinois include various lodging styles within a 40-mile radius. Many sites offer lake views or wooded settings with multiple rental options beyond basic camper cabins. Carlyle Lake provides several cabin locations at different recreation areas, while sites near the Mississippi River offer urban proximity with camping comforts.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Lake Carlyle offers excellent fishing conditions with diverse wildlife viewing. "The lake is pretty and they have fish in the lake and you are allowed to fish," notes a visitor to St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park. Water activities extend beyond fishing with kayak and paddleboat rentals.

Biking trails: Lakeside paths connect many camping areas for extended rides. A camper at COE Lake Carlyle McNair Campground shares, "There's miles and miles of walking and biking trails! Easy bike ride into the town of Carlyle."

Swimming options: Pools and beaches provide water recreation beyond lake activities. "They have an archery range. They rent out peddle boats, bikes and peddle cars/buggies as well. We rented a peddle buggy. Those are a lot harder to get moving then they look," explains a visitor about recreation facilities.

City access: Gateway Arch visits make an easy day trip from several cabin locations. "We parked our RV, summoned an Uber, and were at the top of the arch in an hour!" mentions a camper at Cahokia RV Parque, highlighting urban activity access.

What campers like

Lakefront views: Premium cabins with water views offer scenic surroundings. A camper at Dam West Campground shares, "We camped right on the lake with a great view. This site and the site next to it are the best sites in the campground with a pull through layout for a great setup for a lake view from the side of your camper."

Security features: 24-hour staff at several locations provides peace of mind. A visitor notes, "Very well ran, clean, secure, friendly, professional campground." Some locations employ park rangers who actively inform campers about weather events.

On-site food options: BBQ restaurants operate at select campgrounds. "You do not miss the BBQ place in the parking lot... fantastic food and a 10% discount for park customers," reports a Cahokia RV Parque visitor, noting convenient dining.

Clean facilities: Air-conditioned bathhouses receive high marks for cleanliness. A camper at Washington County State Recreation Area mentions, "Cleanest bathrooms ever and heated and air conditioned. Quiet and plenty of trees and a walking path."

What you should know

Seasonal availability varies: Some campgrounds close during winter months. "Very nice kept up campground. Reservable sites are hard to book. Only negatives is that this campground is not open year-round," notes a Dam West camper.

Reservation timing matters: Popular lakefront cabins book quickly. "We arrived at this campground at 11am on a Friday only to find that that the first-come, first-serve sites were already full," shares a Dam West visitor who recommends booking "months in advance if possible."

Urban noise factors: Train and highway sounds affect some locations. A visitor to St. Louis NE-Granite City KOA reports, "Trains pass 2 blocks away several times nightly, but after the first night you won't notice."

Water quality concerns: Supply issues occur at some campgrounds. "I filled my trailer's tank at the drinking water supply when you enter the campground. It was extremely dirty with a lot of copper colored solids," warns a camper about early season water issues.

Tips for camping with families

Youth activities: Scheduled events cater specifically to children. A visitor to Rustic Acres Jellystone explains, "The campsites are small and a bit pricey, but it is a great family friendly place. Good pizza and amazing ice cream at the store! Kid fun and themed activities, bounce trampoline pillow, pool, etc."

Beach access: Swimming areas provide alternatives to pools. "A beach to swim at and a dock to fish off. A playground for kids," notes a COE Lake Carlyle visitor.

Playground proximity: Site selection near play equipment benefits families. "Conveniently located just outside of St Louis. We camped here for a trip to the city for St Louis cardinals game and zoo. My kids loved the jumping pillow at the park," shares a KOA camper.

Rental equipment: Recreational gear available without hauling extras. "The park/campground rents paddleboats, kayaks, and canoes in addition to different kinds of bikes," explains a St. Peters' visitor, noting family-friendly amenities.

Tips from RVers

Parking challenges: Site access requires planning at some locations. "Entrance to campground is tight, swing wide," advises a St. Louis NE-Granite City KOA visitor. Another notes, "Our water hook up and electric hookup was significantly far apart," suggesting longer hoses.

Wind exposure: Lakefront sites experience stronger gusts. "Keep in mind that strong winds can sweep across the lake and pick things up if not secured," cautions a Dam West camper about site conditions.

Grocery planning: Limited stores near campgrounds requires advance shopping. "When we first pulled down the road you'll be worried you're going to end up in the train yard, but the campground is hidden and actually really quiet and secluded," shares a KOA visitor about unexpected access routes.
