Peaceful

Very relaxing, and very quiet. Great shade from tall trees, and a large pond to Fisher paddle boat. Been there twice and will be going back.

Great place to camp and see Chicago

We stayed here code a week while my husband had to fly out for work. It was safe, and everyone was so friendly and kind. The neighbors welcomed us and by the time we had to leave we felt like we were part of the community. There is easy access to public transportation. It was HOT and there are no…

Nice and quiet

Its nice and quiet. When you park at the lot head towards Utica. The first spot was about a half mile in. If you head further down there is a nice spot with a shelter and fire place. They are working on the bridge before Utica so you can not walk into town. No restrooms but there is a water…

A great place to avoid the crowds!

This little gem is across the river from Starved Rock State Park. So, you can appreciate the bluff overlooks of the river without dealing with the crowds. Real live Buffalo are a treat for kids and animal lovers. A number of trails around effigy mounds make for a nice walk.

A place to make memories

My mother-in-law was a member here for years. My family would frequently visit her camper during the summers. Always a great time! My company even hosted employee appreciation events here a few times. The list of amenities is remarkable, but membership is required. The beach and lake were…

If you’re not a member, you’ll be treated like you don’t belong

Can you say absolutely rude!!! I don't know who Mike is and wether he just works there or is the owner. I will never spend a dime with that park. You may think you're an exclusive members only club, but your attitude and demeanor is what will kill your business.

Let me give some background to…

Not good

Of all the KOA's so far on my journey was the worst. Not really the campground owners fault for the most part. Stayed on a Friday night, knowing I needed a rest in the trip, booked about 5 days in advance in app. First the camp store really had nothing, second there were some kind of car races…

Hidden

Camp sites aren’t actually in buffalo rock, they’re across the street at I&M canal. You have to walk a bit to get there but the sites are great. If you’re looking for privacy this is it. There aren’t toilets tho or running water..

It’s an alright place to stay

I stayed here a couple times camping in a tent. It’s a quiet place, not much to do and very little exploring options. Right across the street is a landfill, but never smelled anything bad.

Great for bike camping but a little exposed

Just down the street from Starved Rock State Park and Matthiessen State Park is the much smaller(and less crowded) Buffalo Rock State Park. It has some trails, camping, a playground and other facilities, and is right next to the I& M Canal Tow Path.

At a leisurely pace, it only took me a…

Nice enough for local camping

Many very nice permanent sites. We loved the dog park along with the many activities available. We come here at least once a year. Check out their information on their website.

If you want a quick local get away this is the place.

Fun little campground

Had a great time this weekend camping with my wife and two boys. We camp in an Hybrid trailer and really appreciated the price point with full hookups. Sites were decent size and had fire pits at each location. They had plastic picnic tables which where light to move and easy to clean. Decently…

A very basic KOA

It’s a reasonably clean campground. The spaces are tiny, open and cramped. In the pull through spaces, where we stayed, the curb side neighbor’s sewer dump was about 10 feet from our fire pit. He didn’t hook it up tight, I had to fix it for him or suffer the smell. The campground is next door to a…

Family friendly campground

We stayed here for a weekend and there were plenty of activities for the kids...the staff was friendly and the bathrooms were clean...our camp site was near the bathrooms, pool, and store so we were nice and close to all the activities...our family will definitely be back!
