Waldron Campground — Farragut State Park

Waldron Campground sits within Farragut State Park, accessible by paved roads and offering reservable sites with water and electric hookups. This established campground operates as a paid facility managed by Idaho Parks and Recreation, with multiple dump stations positioned throughout the expansive park grounds.

The campground features large sites with paved driveways and gravel pads for picnic tables and fire pits. "Most sites are large and well appointed," notes mary F., though she points out that sites don't offer direct water access. Mature trees provide substantial shade coverage across the camping area. Clean restroom facilities include hot showers housed in private rooms, though some sites sit up to one-third of a mile from the main bathroom buildings.

The park's history as a former naval training base adds educational value through an on-site museum. Campers can access hiking and biking trails that wind through the forested terrain. Swimming and boating opportunities exist at nearby Beaver Bay, while multiple disc golf courses provide additional recreation options within the park boundaries.

Check-in occurs at the visitor center starting at 2 PM, which can create congestion in the parking area during peak arrival times. The campground maintains high cleanliness standards with gravel raked between visitor stays. For those exploring northern Idaho's lake country, campgrounds outside Bayview provide additional base camp options in the region.

Mostly a great campground

Pros: most sites are large and well appointed with paved driveways and gravel pad for picnic table, fire pit, and tents if you have them. Water and electricity at site. Plenty of trails to walk. Three dump and water stations. Cons: check in is way too late (2 pm), they require you to check in at visitor center, and the parking lot is not large enough to accommodate all the rvs checking in at 2 pm. Other con is no campsites on the water. The shoreline is very scenic but the camp and surroundings not so much. Just overstocked young forest. Also our electric post was damaged so cord kept coming unhooked. Had to bungee cord it.

Rude & unhelpful staff

I rarely ever give bad ratings, but this was the worst camping experience I’ve ever had. Their check in process reminds me of the DMV—including rude staff. The park itself is massive and has lots to do. Each campground only has one main bathroom, so you’ll be wise to bring something to ride to get to the restrooms because some sites are 1/3 of a mile away.

Beautiful park with very nice spots!

We stayed in the Waldron campground and it’s got big trees with lots of shade. Very clean bathrooms and showers! The Beaver Bay swimming is wonderful and perfect for all ages.

Massive park, well maintained, historic military base from WWII

We stayed here for one night on July 25, 2018.

This is one huge park. I wanted to stay here as my father went through Naval basic training here in 1942.  Since then the base has been turned into a college and then into a state park.  A nice museum is located here with the history of the naval training base.

Every site is immaculately maintained with even the gravel being raked between visitors.  There are hot showers (in private rooms), visitor center, swimming, boating, fishing, and a host of other activities. There are several disc golf courses and the visitor center sells Frisbee/discs for that purpose.

The sites have water and electric hookups and the park has multiple dump stations throughout.

Beautiful get away close to town

Clean campsites, and beautiful scenery. However the campsites don’t offer a lot of privacy which can lead to loud neighbors and not a lot of sleep.
