    Adams Ranger Station

    Mountain Views and Rich History

Beautiful log cabin in the mountains of Idaho, located in Nez Perce Clearwater National Forest, so astonishing views are plentiful. There is no cell service here, so prepare for the trip ahead, print out your maps to the station, otherwise getting lost on your way here is a very likely possibility. BYO drinking water, headlamps and sense of adventure. Pack out what you pack in..must respect the power of nature.

Near by attractions are Florence which is a well known location for gold mining in days past, nice place to hike and explore the area’s history.

McCall RV Resort - Northfolk Lodge

The Best RV Campsite in McCall, Idaho!!!

We reserved a spot here to prepare for a rafting trip we had won from the McCall WinterFest. We are so glad we did!!! This place ROCKS! We have a 27' Travel Trailer RV and we reserved a full hook-up site. The staff was friendly and we were escorted the staff to the site we reserved. The location is nice and quiet, awa from traffic. They have a nice lodge with an indoor heated swimming pool. Each site had a picnic table but no fire pit where we stayed. We had a portable grill to cook our meals. The property is very clean and the staff is ver friendly. Can't ask for anything more!

Peninsula Campground — Ponderosa State Park

If You Like A Fish Bowl

This campground boasts lovely showers and bathrooms. All well and good if you like to be in a fishbowl. There is no privacy between camp spaces. The rangers do not enforce the quiet hour rule and you get woken up in the middle of the night by screaming kids. Not my idea of a fun camping experience.

Boise National Forest Warm Lake Campground

A Pleasant Camping Area North of Boise, Idaho

This campsite is located east of Cascade Lake and Donnelly, Idaho. It's a scenic road to get there. The camsite we were in was dry camping with no hook-ups. The camping pad for our 27' Travel Trailer was nice and level. Each campsite had a picnic table and a firepit. There are some nice hiking trails in the vicinity. Mountain biking and horse riding is acceptable there as well. Since we had kayaks, we had a short drive to the boat ramp. There is excellent trout fishing. There is a small swim beach near the Warm Lake Lodge and Restaurant, near where the cabins are. All in all, a great stay, away from the city :-) It's a nice peaceful setting.

Clean, leveled, friendly, only 1/4 mile to their downtown. Friendly and helpful staff, showers, toilets, beach area for swimming WITH lounge chairs, swimming right in front, volleyball court, dog walking trails, fire pits, horse shoe play area, etc! Only wish I was able to do laundry but coming back again! Oh and the best part, great fishing under the bridge!

    Remote and beautiful

    Warm Lake Campground

Quite a drive to this beautiful lake but apparently it is well liked by locals because it was crowded!

The water is crystal clear and fishing is popular. There is a trail that goes completely around the lake but we turned back when a snake crossed our path.

There is a tent area, rental cabins and a camper area. I had no signal, bring a map.

The forest fires were further into the forest but the smoke haze was ever present.

    Worth the drive

Warm Lake Is BEAUTIFUL! Peaceful, dark and REMOTE.

Quite a drive to this beautiful lake but apparently it is well liked by locals because it was crowded! People fishing everywhere, people all around the lodge, trail and beach.

The water is crystal clear and fishing is popular. There is a trail that goes completely around the lake but we turned back when a snake crossed our path.

There are several options to include a group camping area, a shoreline primitive area, rental cabins and a Rec vehicle area. The lodge offers pretty much everything you could need, but considering how busy they are I would try to bring what I needed.

Guide to Payette National Forest

Cabin camping near Payette National Forest offers year-round accommodation options across varied elevations from 2,000 to 8,000 feet. The area experiences distinct seasons with summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F during the day and winter temperatures commonly dropping below freezing. Cabin rental availability peaks between May and October, though several locations maintain winter operations with modified access requirements.

What to do

Lakeside exploration: Peninsula Campground at Ponderosa State Park offers direct access to Payette Lake with multiple water activities. "In the winter, the park offers great snowshoe trails, and groomed trails for cross-country skiing and skate skiing," notes Hannah C., highlighting the year-round recreational opportunities.

Wildlife viewing: The forests surrounding cabins provide habitat for deer, osprey, and other wildlife. "Be sure to check out the hiking trails and visit the Lily Marsh, Meadow Marsh, and Osprey Point," suggests a camper about Ponderosa State Park's natural attractions, which change dramatically with the seasons.

Winter activities: Cabin stays at Warm Lake Campground provide access to snowshoeing routes when the area receives significant snowfall. "Since we had kayaks, we had a short drive to the boat ramp. There is excellent trout fishing," mentions Ed E., describing the multi-season recreational options.

What campers like

Privacy levels: Cabin locations vary from isolated to community-oriented settings. "Warm Lake Is BEAUTIFUL! Peaceful, dark and REMOTE," writes Shelly S. about Shoreline Campground, contrasting with more developed options nearby.

Accessibility: Many cabin locations feature paved access roads and concrete pads. "Nice, fully paved campground with easy access to the lake, swimming beach and rustic lodge. The best part is that you can drive all the way to the campground (from Boise) without leaving pavement," explains Jay about Shoreline Campground.

Winter amenities: Some cabin sites maintain heat sources and winter access. According to Celine K., "Heading out in the winter, there are great snowshoeing and Nordic skiing options" at Ponderosa State Park, making it suitable for cold-weather stays when properly equipped.

What you should know

Reservation windows: Most cabins require advance booking, especially during summer. "A prime spot to camp in McCall. Plan ahead and book early," advises Lisa O. about Peninsula Campground, where peak season reservations often fill 6-9 months in advance.

Cabin amenities variance: Kitchen facilities and bathroom access differ significantly between locations. McCall RV Resort offers "an indoor heated swimming pool. Each site had a picnic table but no fire pit where we stayed," according to Ed E., illustrating how amenities can vary.

Seasonal limitations: Many facilities close or reduce services during shoulder seasons. "Warm Lake Campground is located east of Cascade Lake and Donnelly, Idaho. It's a scenic road to get there. The campsite we were in was dry camping with no hook-ups," explains a reviewer, noting the remoteness and facility limitations.

Tips for camping with families

Indoor backup activities: Choose cabins with indoor recreation options during variable weather. At Waters Edge RV Resort, "Clean, leveled, friendly, only 1/4 mile to their downtown. Friendly and helpful staff, showers, toilets, beach area for swimming WITH lounge chairs," reports C.W., mentioning multiple family-friendly amenities.

Child-friendly amenities: Look for cabins near swimming beaches with gradual entry points. "Beautiful walking paths to view all kinds of wildlife along the river," notes a Waters Edge visitor, highlighting accessible outdoor activities for various ages.

Space between sites: Consider privacy factors when selecting cabins with children. At Arrowhead RV Park, they offer a "Fun REC for kids, playground, and party fire pit area. Individual spots were extremely tight," according to Isabel, showing the tradeoff between amenities and space.

Tips from RVers

Utility connections: Guard stations like Paddy Flat and Johnson Creek offer basic electrical hookups but may require self-contained water and waste systems. At McCall RV Resort, they provide "a spot here to prepare for a rafting trip...We have a 27' Travel Trailer RV and we reserved a full hook-up site," explains Ed E.

Winter access considerations: Verify road conditions and plowing schedules before winter cabin stays. "We had bad weather, but the site, 115, felt pretty isolated," notes JoAnn L. about McCall RV Resort, which maintains winter operations with varied site accessibility.

Off-season advantages: Consider shoulder season cabin rentals for reduced crowds. "We returned here after staying a few years ago. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Sites are pretty level," shares Phillip C. about Waters Edge RV Resort, which operates May through October with less competition for reservations during edge months.
