Best Cabin Camping near Mesa, ID

Cabin rentals within an hour of Mesa, Idaho range from rustic forest service cabins to modern lakeside accommodations. Buck Park Cabin offers a basic shelter for visitors seeking a remote experience, primarily serving as a warming hut during snowmobile season. As one visitor noted, "It's rustic. Not much to it but it did offer a sheltered place to build a fire/get warm and weather a bad storm." Third Fork Cabin provides similarly basic accommodations with drive-in access. More developed options include Waters Edge RV Resort in Cascade, where cabin rentals include electricity and proximity to lakefront recreation areas, and McCall RV Resort's Northfolk Lodge, offering cabin accommodations with access to indoor amenities.

Reservations are essential for all cabin facilities, particularly during summer months when McCall and Cascade areas experience peak tourism. Most cabins allow pets with restrictions, though Buck Park Cabin's remote location creates natural limitations. Many cabins remain accessible during winter, serving snowmobilers and winter recreationists. According to a visitor at McCall RV Resort, "They have swimming pool, jacuzzi, and free popcorn all day!" While rustic cabins typically feature minimal amenities, resort-based cabins often provide furniture, heating systems, and access to shared facilities like showers and restrooms.

Most rustic cabins require guests to bring their own bedding, lighting, and cooking supplies. Firewood availability varies by location, with some cabins providing wood on-site while others require visitors to bring their own or purchase locally. Clear Creek Station and other facilities with on-site markets offer basic supplies, though selection is limited. Visitors staying at more remote cabins should pack all necessary supplies before arrival, as access roads can be challenging. The Buck Park Cabin reviewer cautioned that "In the summer, the long rough road into it is not for everyone." Cabins at established resorts like Arrowhead RV Park typically provide more amenities, requiring less preparation but commanding higher rates than their rustic counterparts.

Farewell Bend State Recreation Area Campground

Just a Hop Skip and Jump away from Idaho

Living in Idaho near the border of Idaho, I was looking for a great catfishing spot on the Snake River. I found this campground along the Snake just on the other side of the border - eastern Oregon. The campgrounds are AWESOME!!! The have all the amenities for RV camping. They do have tent camping sites as well. There is some great history of the area and we were appreciative of how the State Park system displayed it. Great fishing for the shore angler as well as boat anglers. I fished from my kayak and caught crappie and catfish as well as some smallmouth bass. I would definitely camp here again. They do have a dump station for RVs as well as restrooms. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table.

McCall RV Resort - Northfolk Lodge

The Best RV Campsite in McCall, Idaho!!!

We reserved a spot here to prepare for a rafting trip we had won from the McCall WinterFest. We are so glad we did!!! This place ROCKS! We have a 27' Travel Trailer RV and we reserved a full hook-up site. The staff was friendly and we were escorted the staff to the site we reserved. The location is nice and quiet, awa from traffic. They have a nice lodge with an indoor heated swimming pool. Each site had a picnic table but no fire pit where we stayed. We had a portable grill to cook our meals. The property is very clean and the staff is ver friendly. Can't ask for anything more!

Check out the link to a video of our camping trip to Fish Lake Campground.

This is my favorite place to camp. Beautiful views, outstanding action packed trout fishing. Far away from anything. Nice restrooms and natural spring is plumbed in to the campground. Best water I have ever tasted. This place is awesome, you won’t be disappointed.

Peninsula Campground — Ponderosa State Park

If You Like A Fish Bowl

This campground boasts lovely showers and bathrooms. All well and good if you like to be in a fishbowl. There is no privacy between camp spaces. The rangers do not enforce the quiet hour rule and you get woken up in the middle of the night by screaming kids. Not my idea of a fun camping experience.

Boise National Forest Warm Lake Campground

A Pleasant Camping Area North of Boise, Idaho

This campsite is located east of Cascade Lake and Donnelly, Idaho. It's a scenic road to get there. The camsite we were in was dry camping with no hook-ups. The camping pad for our 27' Travel Trailer was nice and level. Each campsite had a picnic table and a firepit. There are some nice hiking trails in the vicinity. Mountain biking and horse riding is acceptable there as well. Since we had kayaks, we had a short drive to the boat ramp. There is excellent trout fishing. There is a small swim beach near the Warm Lake Lodge and Restaurant, near where the cabins are. All in all, a great stay, away from the city :-) It's a nice peaceful setting.

    Waters Edge RV Resort

    Right next to the lake!

Clean, leveled, friendly, only 1/4 mile to their downtown. Friendly and helpful staff, showers, toilets, beach area for swimming WITH lounge chairs, swimming right in front, volleyball court, dog walking trails, fire pits, horse shoe play area, etc! Only wish I was able to do laundry but coming back again! Oh and the best part, great fishing under the bridge!

Farewell Bend State Recreation Area Campground

    A treat after dispersed camping

Though not free like the dispersed camping the dog and I were doing the days before this, it was a treat to have warm showers, bathrooms, a fenced dog exercise area, the security of other campers, and a picnic table to cook on. I stayed in a more "isolated" campsite with a tree screen from the other sites, because my dog is very protective. But it looked like there were great view sites further in the campgrounds, for those who don't need the privacy. There was easy river access from the camp and you can hear the coyotes yipping in the morning.

Farewell Bend State Recreation Area Campground

    Farewell Bend State Recreation Area

This campground near the Idaho/Oregon border is your typical State Park. The sites are wide open with little privacy though there are some larger trees with the park. We had a site with water & electricity and there is a dump station. They also have sink/dishwashing water dump stations throughout (typical of Oregon State parks). There are separate single person showers and the restrooms were pretty clean. We only stayed 1 night passing through.

Guide to Mesa

Cabin options near Mesa, Idaho range from state park rentals to private lodges and resort accommodations. Located in Valley County at approximately 5,000 feet elevation, Mesa sits along the western edge of the Payette National Forest where summer temperatures typically reach 75-85°F during peak season. Winter access to cabin facilities becomes challenging as snowfall accumulations can reach 100+ inches annually.

What to do

Hiking trails: Ponderosa State Park offers extensive trail networks for day hikes. "In the summer you will find vast amounts of huckleberries, wonderful swimming, and many deer. Be sure to check out the hiking trails and visit the Lily Marsh, Meadow Marsh, and Osprey Point," notes one Ponderosa State Park visitor.

Fishing access: Multiple cabin locations provide fishing opportunities. For dedicated anglers staying at McCall RV Resort, one visitor recommends: "For any fisherman, as you leave the park go right about 2 miles to a parking area for Brown Pond. I caught my limit in 20 minutes, and earthworms hanging two feet down from a bobber is the ticket."

Winter recreation: Several cabin facilities maintain winter access. "In the winter, the park offers great snowshoe trails, and groomed trails for cross-country skiing and skate skiing," explains a Ponderosa State Park reviewer about off-season activities.

What campers like

Indoor amenities: Resort cabins often include access to additional facilities. According to a McCall RV Resort guest: "The indoor pool and spa and steam room made this my favorite park so far on our journey."

Riverside locations: Many cabins provide water access. A visitor at Arrowhead RV Park reports: "We had a beautiful site on the river," while another mentions the "playground, and party fire pit area" available for guests.

Off-season solitude: Visiting during shoulder seasons reduces crowds. One camper at Farewell Bend State Recreation Area notes: "Only the Brownlee loop was open in mid-March. There were plenty of sites to choose from with great views of the river."

What you should know

Seasonal closures: Most cabin facilities have limited operating seasons. Waters Edge RV Resort operates from "May 1 to Oct 15" according to their listing information, while other facilities like Ponderosa State Park typically operate "Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend."

Availability challenges: Advanced reservations are essential. "A prime spot to camp in McCall. Plan ahead and book early," advises a Ponderosa State Park visitor.

Road conditions: Access to remote cabins requires preparation. At Buck Park Cabin, a visitor cautions about conditions: "In the summer, the long rough road into it is not for everyone. Scenery is good and very quiet. If you want remote with the bare basics, this is the place."

Tips for camping with families

Recreational facilities: Look for cabins with family-friendly amenities. "They have a nice lodge with an indoor heated swimming pool. Each site had a picnic table but no fire pit where we stayed," reports a McCall RV Resort visitor.

Privacy considerations: Site spacing varies significantly between locations. At Ponderosa State Park, one camper notes: "The spots are a little close but we never were bothered by it. If we had dogs it may have been a little more of a nuisance."

Seasonal activities: Clear Creek Station cabins provide access to seasonal recreation. "The restaurant and bar are worth a visit even if you don't camp. The burger was the best I had in a long time and the place is frequented by locals," reports a visitor who appreciated the dining options.

Tips from RVers

Utility hookups: Cabin facilities with RV options typically provide multiple hookup types. At Waters Edge RV Resort, a visitor noted the sites are "clean, leveled, friendly, only 1/4 mile to their downtown" with amenities like "showers, toilets, beach area for swimming WITH lounge chairs."

Wind protection: Consider location and exposure when selecting sites. A Farewell Bend camper shared: "We had reserved a spot in C loop with a view of the water but it was so windy when we got there the site was not very comfortable. The camp host graciously let us move up to B loop."

Park amenities: Resort-style cabins near Mesa often include unexpected features. "Alpine Lodge and RV has mature trees providing ample shade throughout the day. Most sites have a concrete patio and grassy area," reports a visitor who appreciated the layout and helpful staff.
