Gilmore Campground — Farragut State Park

    Screws Out of Staters

Farragut is a fantastic 5 star campground. Currently staying here at $40 a night. Went to book two more nights and found out they now charge out of state people double. My September stay will now be in Montana and I will skip Idaho completely. No gas, no food, no nothing.

    AWESOME CAMPGROUND

Gilmore Campground Farragut State Park, Idaho Lake Pend Oreille

    Who Knew?!!

I crossed the Montana / Idaho state line this morning and was pleasantly surprised at the AMAZING scenery . I’m from way over in Kentucky so maybe this is a best kept secret or it’s just not well advertised but NORTHERN IDAHO IS BEAUTIFUL!! I mean, someone says Idaho, I think potatoes/ farmland. So well played Idahoans! I stopped for an overnight at Farragut State Park. The staff was AMAZING! Friendly , informative and took the time to see if there were any cancellations or early departures in the crowded campgrounds. The campgrounds are well laid out in that there are many sites but they are situated in a way that still gives each site space for “stuff”. My site didn’t have a lot of shade but the breeze was enough that it was comfortable all day, temps in the 80’s. We may have hit the end of the mowing cycle or maybe they leave the grass rough cut due to it being dry. Our site was otherwise very well maintained. When I drove in the camp hosts were actually across the lane SWEEPING one of the cement pads clear of gravel. Full hook up, Pit toilets and a few shower houses. The shower house is on the other side of Gilmore CG. The sites over there have older trees and more shade. The general park map is lacking on the hiking trail venue. If you want to hike and in my opinion you do, see about getting a trail map or take a picture at one of the information stands. Even that map was not great, but useable. We took a stroll down through the woods and when we got to Lake Pend Oreille guess what?!! .... IT WAS AMAZING!! If you want a hike along the lake with easy to moderate difficulty 70 along Idlewilde Bay is excellent, it loops around by the parking lots and the shore. Plenty of spots for the dogs to get in and to swim. Once again there are trails coming and going and the trail markings are sometimes confusing but if you have a good sense of direction you’ll be fine.

Bayview, ID is nearby with a laundromat , grocery , etc. On site there is a small museum with the history of the area , a model plane field , a Tree to Tree Adventure Park and of course water activities galore.

    Needs improvement

It used to be a good place , we stayed ther in 79 when we first moved to Idaho . But over the years it slowly be came the hot haven for the drifters the less fortunate, a party place . But they’ve been working on getting it cleaned up so props to them . It’s a good location because there are places to shop fairly close

    Liberty Lake Regional Park

    Liberty Lake Tidy and quiet

This is a Spokane County campground about a mile from the Idaho border. It’s located down a country road so use the website to find it. It had two ex-marine hosts when we visited so the potential for yahoos is low. In fact it was neat, tidy, and quiet when we visited for one night. It is a popular place for locals and fills quickly. Warm showers are included. Beware that tent sites 2&3 accommodate one compact vehicle only, this is not clear from website which will accept payment for 2. The other would have to park elsewhere as directed. The park is pleasant with lake access and hiking trails

    Round Lake State Park Campground

They have ruined my childhood spot

We used to camp here in the 80s and it was always peaceful and beautiful. And we liked it because its got free showers and the bathrooms are very clean for camping. However,! There used to only about 34ish spots and now there are 51 spots. Its very crowded and people feel like they are right on top of each other. Your fire pit area is right next to your neighbors picnic table and/or their fire pit. They also clear cut all the bushes between spots and threw wood chips down so there is no privacy at all. I know they are worried about fires but good grief. Hence the reason it feels like you are right on top of your neighbors. The day use area is still pretty much the same as it's always been and the lake is just as beautiful but not the camping part. Thanks a lot Idaho fish and game! :( UGH!!!

    Silverwood RV Park

Fine for RVs, Horrible for Tents. Great Location for Water Park

The "grand finale" of our 4000-mile road trip was two nights and two days at Silverwood Theme Park in the Northwestern corner of Idaho. The water park and rides were amazing, like a smaller, easier Disneyland. Everyone had lots of fun and we'd definitely go back.

The Silverwood RV Park is attached to the theme park via a pedestrian tunnel and is a whole other story. Hot campground, tiny trees that provide no shade, loud neighbors talking through the night, and worst of all, all tents, chairs, and other items must be placed on the rock pads, not on the grass, since there's sprinklers that go off every night in the grass. I guess this wouldn't have been so bad (maybe a 2 or 3 star location), but we had an especially bad experience when a broken sprinkler blasted our tent and all our gear in the middle of the night (which was in the gravel so should have been safe). We had to move everything to the other side of the pad in the dark and try to dry everything out. A shocking and unpleasant experience all-around.

Pros: Great location if you're going to Silverwood. If you're in a self-contained RV this would work well.

Cons: Horrible for tents unless you're fully outfitted with cots since the gravel makes for an uncomfortable stay and there's no room to spread out. Loud, crowded, and hot.

    Only 2 dogs allowed

My husband and I wanted to stay here because it looks like a nice place to stay awhile. However, the online reservation form only allows for 2 dogs. We have 3. So, I called because some campgrounds allow 3. The man I talked to asked how big the dogs are and I told him. He said that since they were big dogs he had to stay firm. I understand and I get that there are dog owners out there that do not take good care of their dogs--big or small. We do and even though they are big, they are elderly and they don't stay outside very long. Maybe when one of them dies, we'll be able to stay there.

    Great Little RV Park

For this being our first long distance trip from Boise, I’m extremely glad we stayed here. The scenery is gorgeous within the park (lots of trees and grass areas), excellent for dogs and the site we stayed in was perfectly level from the time we pulled in. Unfortunately our water heater wasn’t working so we had to use the showers on site and I was not disappointed, they were about 9/10 on cleanliness but water temp/pressure was excellent. WiFi was better than what I would have expected. Staff at check in was very friendly and courteous. It’s convenient that it’s behind a gas station because if you need any snacks, drinks or propane it’s just a short walk away. The only negative that I have to share is that the train is just on the other side of the highway and for whatever reason they enjoy blowing the horn and I will warn you this could happen at any hour of the day/night. We were in the back end of the park so it wasn’t completely drowning but you definitely know it’s there. If our travels ever bring us up this way again, I will not hesitate to stay here again.

    Great Location

The RV sites are very close together on a gravel lot, but are full hookup. The location is right next to the biking trail and river boardwalk a short distance to the city park. The management was helpful and friendly. Not much ambience, but a great location.

Parking lot near river and bike trail

It is hard to find many positives about this place. It has nothing to do with the people, but only about the "campground". It is a parking lot. No grass. Very tight. Lots of seasonal folks. There is a dog park. It Is right on the river. It is right on the bike trail. It is close to town. Beyond that. There is nothing that I deem attractive or desirable about this place. So for me personally, we passed. Please check out the photos and judge for yourself.

    Best Rv park near Silverwood

This place is an absolute gem! All sites now have full hook-ups with water, power and sewer and every site has both 30/50amp. No showers but who needs that when you have full hook-ups. They have a beautiful pool, basketball court, volleyball area and small playground. They even have a shuttle to Silverwood! One the most beautifully kept RV parks we've ever stayed in with spacious sites with grassy area and picnic table at each site. Highly recommend 👌

Really wish there were more septic hookups

This park is very well-maintained by the on-site hosts. Very nice, and green grass areas between all of the sites. There is a decently stocked main clubhouse where are you check in, that also has a very nice pool connected to it. They also have a nice on-site playground and basketball court for kids to play. The sites are decent size and we were able to park our 28 for a trailer and park our full-size pick up sideways in the site. The only downside, and our oversight was not all of the units have sewer hook up. The owner had mentioned there are only 23 full hook ups a lot of time in the park, so plan your stay way ahead. If you only have a water and electric hook up there is still an on-site dump station. Considering how close this park is to Silverwood it was worth I’m going without the sewer hook up.

    Lovely Campground

We only stayed one night and didn’t use any of the facilities but the sites were spacious, all hookups worked, the campsite was very clean and well maintained. Everyone was very nice at check in and process was quick. Price was very reasonable.

    Silverwood RV Park

Next Door to Silverwood Theme Park

The best thing about the campsite is that it is the closet place to stay near Silverwood theme park. You can easily walk from your tent right into the park, which makes it super convenient.

There are showers on site and full hook-ups. However, you are camping here to go to the park, not to enjoy camping. Sites have little to no tree cover. If it is hot out your camp will be hot, though chances are you’ll be inside the water park anyway.

While we were there the sprinklers went off in the middle of the night, soaking our tent. Management gave us a free night and moved us for the next night. One weird thing is that you have to place your tent on a hard gravel pad, rather than the green grass (see previous sentence about the sprinklers).

If you have an RV, life is a lot easier at this park. That said, you will not find a closer place to stay, and definitely not as cheap.

    Theme Park

Definitely a campground ⛺ for those who want to spend their whole day at the park 🎢across the street. There is nothing to do in the campsite, however if you are planning to spend the whole weekend at the park 🎡 then it is the perfect place to stay.

    Silverwood RV Park

    Camp and Theme park

We stayed here in July. It's next to Silverwood theme park, so you can camp the night before, hit the theme park early, and then crash after a fun filled day. The spaces are close and very open. Make sure you reserve the correct power hookup for your RV. RV Park does have things for the family to do, outside the theme park.

    Wonderful Place to Camp!

The camping, the grounds and the amenities are fantastic.  The staff go out of there way to make sure you have everything you need.  The access to the lake with free canoe rental and FREE firewood are things we have not encounter anywhere else.  Although we only stayed for the night, I would not hesitate to stay for a week(s)

    Came here on accident

My and my lady like this place a lot! Nicely maintained facilities and bathrooms with hot showers. We got there late in the evening with no reservations but we were lucky enough to go online and book it on the spot. There are a few options. RV's and cabins. We got a tent spot, they're fenced to separate everyone. Don't quote me but I think they have canoes for people to use and a waterway to the beautiful lake. Felt safe here. I'll be coming back if I ever venture this way.

    Camp Coeur d'Alene

Great little private campground in the Wolf Lodge Bay.

This is a great little private campground in the Wolf Lodge Bay, and their added free amenities made this campground a really fun alternative to the usual state park/national forest campsites I go to more often. The swimming pool was well kept, and we really enjoyed using the free canoes. They had a lot of decent looking free firewood, but we were camping during a fire ban and weren't able to use it. (This, of course, is no fault of the campground. But if we camp there again it will be nice to have free firewood!)

We originally booked tent site 3, which I cannot recommend as it had no shade or privacy, but the attendant was very kind and let us switch to a shadier site for free. I think this was tent site 4 or 5, which were much better. Tent site seven looked really nice as well and I would recommend that one. But if we go back we will definitely be booking the island tent site 201, it looked to be the best one of all.
