Farewell Bend State Recreation Area Campground

Just a Hop Skip and Jump away from Idaho

Living in Idaho near the border of Idaho, I was looking for a great catfishing spot on the Snake River. I found this campground along the Snake just on the other side of the border - eastern Oregon. The campgrounds are AWESOME!!! The have all the amenities for RV camping. They do have tent camping sites as well. There is some great history of the area and we were appreciative of how the State Park system displayed it. Great fishing for the shore angler as well as boat anglers. I fished from my kayak and caught crappie and catfish as well as some smallmouth bass. I would definitely camp here again. They do have a dump station for RVs as well as restrooms. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table.

McCall RV Resort - Northfolk Lodge

The Best RV Campsite in McCall, Idaho!!!

We reserved a spot here to prepare for a rafting trip we had won from the McCall WinterFest. We are so glad we did!!! This place ROCKS! We have a 27' Travel Trailer RV and we reserved a full hook-up site. The staff was friendly and we were escorted the staff to the site we reserved. The location is nice and quiet, awa from traffic. They have a nice lodge with an indoor heated swimming pool. Each site had a picnic table but no fire pit where we stayed. We had a portable grill to cook our meals. The property is very clean and the staff is ver friendly. Can't ask for anything more!

Check out the link to a video of our camping trip to Fish Lake Campground.

This is my favorite place to camp. Beautiful views, outstanding action packed trout fishing. Far away from anything. Nice restrooms and natural spring is plumbed in to the campground. Best water I have ever tasted. This place is awesome, you won’t be disappointed.

Peninsula Campground — Ponderosa State Park

If You Like A Fish Bowl

This campground boasts lovely showers and bathrooms. All well and good if you like to be in a fishbowl. There is no privacy between camp spaces. The rangers do not enforce the quiet hour rule and you get woken up in the middle of the night by screaming kids. Not my idea of a fun camping experience.

Boise National Forest Warm Lake Campground

A Pleasant Camping Area North of Boise, Idaho

This campsite is located east of Cascade Lake and Donnelly, Idaho. It's a scenic road to get there. The camsite we were in was dry camping with no hook-ups. The camping pad for our 27' Travel Trailer was nice and level. Each campsite had a picnic table and a firepit. There are some nice hiking trails in the vicinity. Mountain biking and horse riding is acceptable there as well. Since we had kayaks, we had a short drive to the boat ramp. There is excellent trout fishing. There is a small swim beach near the Warm Lake Lodge and Restaurant, near where the cabins are. All in all, a great stay, away from the city :-) It's a nice peaceful setting.

    Right next to the lake!

Clean, leveled, friendly, only 1/4 mile to their downtown. Friendly and helpful staff, showers, toilets, beach area for swimming WITH lounge chairs, swimming right in front, volleyball court, dog walking trails, fire pits, horse shoe play area, etc! Only wish I was able to do laundry but coming back again! Oh and the best part, great fishing under the bridge!

Farewell Bend State Recreation Area Campground

    A treat after dispersed camping

Though not free like the dispersed camping the dog and I were doing the days before this, it was a treat to have warm showers, bathrooms, a fenced dog exercise area, the security of other campers, and a picnic table to cook on. I stayed in a more "isolated" campsite with a tree screen from the other sites, because my dog is very protective. But it looked like there were great view sites further in the campgrounds, for those who don't need the privacy. There was easy river access from the camp and you can hear the coyotes yipping in the morning.

Farewell Bend State Recreation Area Campground

    Farewell Bend State Recreation Area

This campground near the Idaho/Oregon border is your typical State Park. The sites are wide open with little privacy though there are some larger trees with the park. We had a site with water & electricity and there is a dump station. They also have sink/dishwashing water dump stations throughout (typical of Oregon State parks). There are separate single person showers and the restrooms were pretty clean. We only stayed 1 night passing through.

Guide to Council

Cabin accommodations near Council, Idaho provide shelter options in an area with varied terrain ranging from 2,600 to 8,000 feet elevation across the Payette National Forest region. Winter temperatures often drop below freezing while summer daytime temperatures typically reach 80-90°F. Most cabins require reservations 3-6 months in advance for peak summer dates, with availability expanding during shoulder seasons.

What to do

Hike around Warm Lake: Located about 26 miles from Cascade, Warm Lake offers multiple trails surrounding the water. "There is a trail that goes completely around the lake but we turned back when a snake crossed our path. The water is crystal clear and fishing is popular," notes one Warm Lake Campground visitor.

Access nearby trails: Cabins near Council provide convenient base camps for trail exploration. "Quiet, easily accesible near hiking trail and Weiser river," reports a camper from Lost RV Park, which offers cabin options for adults 55 and older.

Winter recreation: Some cabin areas maintain year-round operations for cold-weather activities. "In the winter, the park offers great snowshoe trails, and groomed trails for cross-country skiing and skate skiing," mentions a visitor describing winter options at Ponderosa State Park.

What campers like

Indoor amenities during bad weather: Cabin options range from basic to fully equipped. "We had a site with water & electricity and there is a dump station. They also have sink/dishwashing water dump stations throughout," explains a visitor to Farewell Bend State Recreation Area, which offers cabin and yurt accommodations.

River proximity: Many cabins sit near waterways offering recreation. "Nice and well maintained campground by the Imnaha River. Plenty of sites with a decent distance between them," reports a visitor to Blackhorse Campground, which features cabin options.

Shade from summer heat: Tree cover provides relief during hot months. "The park has mature trees providing ample shade throughout the day. Most sites have a concrete patio and grassy area," explains a visitor to Alpine Lodge and RV, which offers cabin rentals in Cascade.

What you should know

Winter accessibility challenges: Remote cabins may require specialized transportation during winter. "As stated in description it's rustic. Not much to it but it did offer a sheltered place to build a fire/get warm and weather a bad storm. In the summer, the long rough road into it is not for everyone," cautions a visitor about Buck Park Cabin.

Reservation timing matters: Book well in advance for prime dates. "Just a fantastic place to stay whether overnight or longer stay. We initially planned on one night but quickly decided for another night once we saw how lovely the place is," shares a visitor at McCall RV Resort - Northfolk Lodge.

Privacy varies widely: Some sites offer seclusion while others place cabins in close proximity. "There is no privacy between camp spaces. The rangers do not enforce the quiet hour rule and you get woken up in the middle of the night by screaming kids," warns one Ponderosa State Park visitor.

Tips for camping with families

Look for kid-friendly amenities: Some cabin sites include recreational facilities. "Fun REC for kids, playground, and party fire pit area. Individual spots were extremely tight," reports a visitor to Arrowhead RV Park on the River, which offers cabin options.

Consider water recreation access: Swimming areas provide entertainment for children. "Right next to the lake! Clean, leveled, friendly, only 1/4 mile to their downtown. Friendly and helpful staff, showers, toilets, beach area for swimming WITH lounge chairs, swimming right in front, volleyball court," shares a visitor describing Waters Edge RV Resort.

Check for seasonal activities: Different seasons offer varied family experiences. "In the summer you will find vast amounts of huckleberries, wonderful swimming, and many deer. Be sure to check out the hiking trails and visit the Lily Marsh, Meadow Marsh, and Osprey Point," suggests a Ponderosa State Park camper.

Tips from RVers

Indoor facilities benefit cabin renters too: RV parks with cabin rentals often share amenities. "Great place where there are lots of amenities. Escorted to our spot and helped us back in. Cable as well. We had bad weather, but the site felt pretty isolated," notes a McCall RV Resort visitor.

Check for seasonal closure dates: Many cabin facilities operate on limited schedules. "We returned here after staying a few years ago. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Sites are pretty level. Campground within walking distance to town, good river front area," shares a visitor to Waters Edge RV Resort, which operates seasonally.

Consider bathroom access when booking: Bathroom facilities vary significantly between cabin locations. "The spots are a little close but we never were bothered by it. If we had dogs it may have been a little more of a nuisance. Bathrooms were clean and had showers," explains a Ponderosa State Park visitor.
