Shaded and spacious
Easy access to Lake Alatoona with good views, minimal shade and access area was swampy on my lot but manageable. Water surprisingly chilly in summer from the Etowah River.

Great place to camp and just relax and watch all children play and laugh.
Loud music loud voices bright lights generators used on tent site. Party to 2 am. No rules enforced even when you complain to the host. Then this is the place for you. You can get away with whatever you want. Expect No sleep!!
This campground is situated on Lake Allatoona, near Canton, just north of Atlanta. Pretty much all the sites have lake views, and they are spaced well enough so that you are not right on top Of anyone. The campground is gated, and the gates are shut between 10:30pm and 8am, so if you are arriving late, make sure you get in before 10:30! I believe all the sites have water hookups, even the tent only sites. There’s a roped off swimming area, and a boat launch, and plenty of sites with lake access. We did have cell service, but it can be spotty in places. We have Verizon. The bathrooms were really disgusting, they look like they hadn’t been cleaned in a very long time. There was some drama at night, two sites over from us where a group of young adults probably had too much to drink and were trying to fight, screaming profanities at 12:30am, fortunately someone called the police and they came and took care of the situation. Overall, this is a really good campground for summertime!
Very spacious camp sites, many of which are lake front. The campground is quiet and clean. One word of caution, check the grade of your site before booking, there are quite a few a very steep grade. Bathrooms/shower houses are small but are clean!
Great location for hot weather camping. Access to the river and lakes. Yurts available as well as electric camping.
Great campground, with great views!
We camped and had a great weekend. I highly recommend it. Everything worked perfectly. Bathrooms very clean. beautiful view
READ- Some of the reviews of Sweetwater Campground at Allatoona are for Sweetwater Creek State Park. These are two completely different parks in two completely different parts of Georgia. SCofA does not have a mill, ruins, river or mountain trails. It does have a lake. Allatoona Lake. Pay attention to the reviews because if you go to to the Sweetwater Campground looking for the things half of these members posted you will be highly disappointed. Again…Sweetwater Campground at Allatoona and Sweetwater Creek State Park are NOT the same.
Large campground with lots of water front sites. Boat ramp and playground. Clean facilities and lots of shaded sites.
This is a great campground, tons of spots of various sizes that should accommodate any rig. Clean bathrooms, showers, friendly staff. Patrolled by ranger regularly, access is restricted at night. Plenty of water access for canoes and boats. Really nice campground- recommend!!
We wanted to try someplace close to Atlanta so this was a good choice. However the water was very low in the Lakes if you wanted to Boat or Fish. Also, the sites do not offer much privacy. Our fire pit was literally at the far end of our site (#111) which seemed odd. We did have a nice view of the Lake and it was even better after a few folks checked out. Bathrooms were not very clean and did not have soap at the sinks. There is not much to do here other than Lake activities. (no Hiking). It was nice to walk along the lake edges (sandy beaches) with the Dogs.
We booked this last minutes about 4 hours before arriving. The young lady on the phone was very helpful, when i thanked her she said it was her job. The site was $14 with out USGS pass. It's #37 overlooking the lake. I was impressed even though it was open, there was very little nouse from other campers..5 stars..
Sweetwater welcomed us to camping and made us campers for life!
One of our first camping trips with our brand new camper. Loved every minute of it!!
Great place to camp. The entire park was very clean and well kept. A lake-side spot would have been awesome, but overall very happy with our stay. Spots are large and spacious.
Beautiful area of camping spots around the lake. Very good infrastructure, showers, bathrooms, etc. For pad or by your car camping, easy access to the lake, and close to home around Canton Woodstock area YOU CAN'T BEAT IT!
Clean campground with access to the lake. Most sites are electric/water but no sewer hook up, they do have a dump station and bathhouses. There is a boat ramp in the campground where you can launch your boat and parking for the boat trailer.
Not a lot of privacy or woods between camp sites but all services available and plenty of spots right on lake line.
Great family campground. The attendant's are friendly and helpful. Lots of nearby things to do.
We visited this park a few weeks ago with friends and had an amazing time! The park is set up on the land of an old factory that used the river to power a water wheel. There are a whole bunch of trails of varying difficulty and length that meander through the woods along the river. Along with the campgrounds there are also picnic benches and large group areas where you can host a lunch or dinner. We took the trail that shows you where they built the mill then goes along the river for a while. It was a beautiful hike but definitely challenging since there are a lot of rocks you have to climb over. The campgrounds are nice and across the road from the park through you can also take other trails from there that go down and around the reservoir. The amenities are nice and the whole park is well taken care of. I would highly suggest staying the night since it is such a short trek from the Atlanta area.
This is one of our favorite campgrounds. The view of the lake is beautiful. We always stay on site 100 it’s right on the water.
This is a must for our family at least once a year..We love the water. We also love the historical trails that lead to the old civil war mill. it's a great hike .
I rented a walk-up tent spot and it was really nice. Each spot was specific in the space and came with a picnic table and benches, fire pit, water tap and powerplug. The spot was big enough for 4-6 tents. You can see your neighbors, which isn't ideal - especially if they want to party and be rowdy. It's also down the road by car from the trails and visitors center which is a bit of a pain.
Sweetwater Creek State Park offers a beautiful hike along the river and ruins. You can also rent kayaks and go out on the lake. There’s a large camp store and the staff is very helpful and friendly. The bathrooms are environmentally friendly in the gift shop and a little different than one would be used to. In the campground the bathrooms are normal and clean.
Sweetwater is a nice park with a Beach. we camped right next to the beach and the kids loved it. beautiful place
Campground is very nice, clean, and most sites are fairly level. Huge campground but only one dumpstation. Site 85
Lakeview was amazing and Facilities were nice and clean. Quiet at night and very peaceful! I would definitely come back here again :-)
So RecGov will let you reserve a site w/three dogs but then when you drive 4 hrs to get there they tell you two dogs only..... what exactly would you like me to do with the spare one??? Luckily the host contacted a Ranger and we were permitted to stay one of our two nights.
The lake is definitely low, we walked across the deep end of the swimming area:) Overall the campground is well maintained and staffed by professional retirees. Was the opening weekend and they moved through the registration process with a purpose. LightSpeed air mattress review: Two thumbs and three paws up! The LightSpeed air mattress comes in a carry bag with battery operated air pump and mine had two LightSpeed pillows w/case. There is more then enough room in the carry bag for your linen. The mattress material feels very "heavy duty". Having three, four legged traveling companions, who are my durability testers, this is a plus. The mattress inflated quickly and the plug is a screw in so no late night "pop outs" when you roll over. We spent a restful night on our bed of air and no leakage! Definite pro: the material is heavy duty/durable and easy to clean. Con: due to the material and size not something I would backpack with. Definitely for car to campsite. Mine stays packed in my vehicle ready for whatever travel opportunity arises.
Stayed here for a week in an RV and enjoyed it immensely. The lake, Lake Alltoona is huge with hundreds of miles of shore line and lots of camping areas. This place had a nice campsites very shaded and the lake was nice and cool to swim in.
