Tiny Cabin in nearby Alpharetta provides a more intimate setting with electric hookups, indoor toilets, and shower access. Fort Yargo State Park Campground, located in Winder, offers cabin rentals with electric and water hookups throughout the year. "Hosts were amazing and accommodating. The ceiling fan and air conditioning unit do a great job of cooling in this GA heat. There was a small desk where I was able to do some work."

Most cabins require advance reservations, with peak season bookings filling quickly. Tiny Cabin allows alcohol but prohibits pets, while Stone Mountain's cabins accommodate pet owners. Margaritaville in Buford offers larger cabin options with amenities like picnic tables, trash service, and market access. According to one visitor, "We had a great time" at nearby Lake Lanier cabins. Don Carter State Park Campground features cabin rentals with full hookups including electricity, sewer, and water. Many locations remain open year-round, though availability may be limited during winter months.

Visitors should verify what supplies are provided before arrival. Basic cabins typically include beds and minimal furnishings, while more deluxe options may feature kitchen facilities. Most campground cabins require guests to bring their own linens, pillows, and toiletries. Several locations like Stone Mountain Park and Margaritaville offer on-site markets for basic supplies. Hard Labor Creek State Park Campground provides cabins with water and electric hookups but no trash service, so visitors should plan accordingly. As one camper noted about Stone Mountain, "This has been the most difficult to level site we have ever stayed at" - suggesting bringing leveling equipment for outdoor furniture if planning to spend time outside.

Hard Labor Creek State Park Campground

We went over the Halloween weekend. What great fun. Lots of events for families and kids. Even us retired people got into the spirit! Sites were well maintained with space between sites. Bathrooms were clean all the time. Cell service was at best 2 bars on all networks. But that’s okay. Fall colors were abundant. If you had a small boat, canoe or kayak the lake is perfect for fishing or just enjoying. The only drawback was some road noise from Fairplay road. Otherwise I can’t say enough of how much we liked this park. Site 16 October.

      Stone Mountain Park Campground

Welcome center is nice, but the roads and asphalt sites are crumbling. We had a back in site that was fairly level. No real privacy from neighboring sites.

Site 18: Don’t let the “hardest site to back into” reviews scare you! There’s a trick.

We stayed at Site 18, which has a reputation for being one of the hardest sites to back into. There’s definitely a trick to it! Pull your truck forward along the site, then pull out toward the site across from you, making an S-turn. From there, line it up and back in. It's tricky, but doable!

We loved this area and packed a lot into our stay. We visited BJ’s Apple Orchard, stopped at Burt’s Pumpkin Farm (where I somehow ended up with a 150-pound pumpkin 😂), had dinner at Cascades Restaurant, and took the easy way to see the falls.

The fenced-in sites were a huge plus, especially with our pups. It gave them more room to roam. The bathrooms and showers are individual rooms, which was nice, and the welcome center is one of the nicest we’ve come across.

And then there’s THE HILL. I was born and raised in the Smokies, so I’m no stranger to mountain roads, but the incline is no joke! The reviews are absolutely not exaggerating when they say it’s steep. Come prepared!

I have T-mobile and husband has Xfinity and we both have great service. Wifi in the campground gets the job done for Netflix at night.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful area, plenty to explore, dog-friendly sites, and a campground we’d visit again. 🏕️🥾

Beautiful views with lake front camping

Campsite was the perfect lake front spot for our dog’s last camping adventure with us. The resort felt super safe for 2 females traveling with their dog and all campsites and bathrooms were super clean.

      Fort Yargo State Park Campground

      Lakefront Overlook

We stayed at Site #45, and it quickly became one of our favorite campsites because it felt more like a wooded overlook, perched above the lake. The breeze coming off the water kept us comfortable enough to enjoy a campfire even on a hot August evening.

The site fit our 14x10 tent comfortably, but I wouldn’t recommend anything larger. There isn’t a true tent pad, and you’ll notice the slope while sleeping—but the view from inside the tent was priceless. We experienced a four-hour thunderstorm and didn’t have any standing water at our site afterward.

⚠️ The slope becomes much steeper near the shoreline, so I wouldn’t recommend this site for toddlers or anyone with mobility concerns.

🛝 Our 7-year-old loved fishing from the shoreline and thought the steep slope made the perfect slide to get back down to the water. Built-in slide + dirty shorts = happy camper. 😂

🔥 The site includes a clean fire ring with an adjustable cooking grate and a separate standing charcoal grill.

🦟 We didn’t have any issues with mosquitoes during our stay.

🚰 The shared water pump wasn’t working during our visit.

🚽 The bathhouse was spacious, clean, and only a short walk away.

🚗 A community wagon is parked near the bathhouse for campers to use when hauling gear between their vehicle and campsite. Loved that!

      A few tips:

🪵 The Visitor Center sells $6 bundles of firewood and has a nice selection of souvenirs.

🐜 Plenty of flies and large ants, so keep your food put away and your tent zipped.

🪲 Cicadas were loud at night. I loved it, but our 7-year-old slept with his wireless headphones on. If you’re a light sleeper, you may want to pack earplugs if you’re camping here June-August.

🎣 We caught more bluegill fishing from our campsite than we did from the fishing dock.

🌅 If you’re looking for one of the best views in the campground and don’t mind sleeping on a slight incline, Site #45 is well worth considering.

      Winding Waters RV Resort

A Good Choice for Big Rigs Near Marietta

We stayed at Winding Waters Riverfront RV Resort for four nights after picking up our new 5th wheel toy hauler from Three Way Campers in Marietta to thoroughly test all of the RV's systems while remaining close to the dealership if any issues arose. We followed the emailed arrival instructions, checked in quickly, and were escorted to pull-through Site 89 with full hookups. The staff was friendly, service-oriented, and very accommodating throughout our stay. We spent our first night in the pull-through before moving to a river-view back-in site. The staff initially suggested Site 190, but after we noticed it had very little yard space, they happily moved us to Site 193, which better suited our needs. The resort offers several unsecured Wi-Fi networks; we selected the strongest signal and averaged 82 Mbps download and 9 Mbps upload. We received two bars on both Verizon and T-Mobile, and our T-Mobile Home Internet worked well. We didn't bring Starlink on this trip, but with very few trees throughout the main campground, it should perform well in most sites. The pull-through sites are better spaced than many campgrounds of this type, although we still wouldn't describe them as spacious. We appreciated the PVC chairs and round tables found at many sites instead of the typical picnic table, and there are five"Paw Pen" pull-through sites with private fenced pet areas. The nearby dog park consists of two small fenced runs that are adequate for potty breaks but not really large enough to throw a ball. Although the water park and numerous family-oriented amenities are not typically what we look for in a campground, Winding Waters was an excellent place to shake down our new rig.

    Guide to Duluth

Cabin rentals near Duluth, Georgia sit among the rolling foothills of north Georgia, where elevations range from 900-1400 feet above sea level. The region features a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters, making year-round cabin camping possible. Seasonal temperatures range from lows around 30°F in winter to summer highs in the 90s with typical Georgia humidity.

    What to do

Hiking at Stone Mountain Park: The campground offers extensive trail systems with varying difficulty levels. Access to the mountain trail provides panoramic views of the Atlanta skyline from the summit. "We loved these grounds. They were clean and there was easy access to bathrooms. The hike to the top was a challenge, but the views were worth it," notes Judy B.

Water activities at Lake Lanier: Don Carter State Park Campground features cabins with direct lake access for swimming and fishing. "Great spot by the lake. Private, plenty of access to the water, not too far from parking lot end. Watch the boats launch if you want to or easy to fish," reports Christopher P.

Golf and recreation options: Several cabin accommodations near Duluth connect to recreational facilities. Hard Labor Creek State Park Campground offers an 18-hole golf course on property. "The campground offers everything you would ever need. There are tons of things to do from Golf, hiking, zoo, laser show, food and you can hike the mountain or take a ride to the top," explains Holly B. from Stone Mountain Park.

    What campers like

Privacy between sites: Many cabins near Duluth offer adequate spacing between accommodations. At Stone Mountain Park Campground, "We spent a weekend here in section O. It was a nice, spacious campsite with a nice picnic table and partial view of the lake even though we didn't have 'lake view' site," writes Tonya B.

Water views from cabins: Lakeside cabins are popular options. "We camped with my parents in the RV section of the campground, it was beautifully wooded and offered plenty of space/privacy from other campsites and was still a short walk from the bathhouse. Also had a little view of a lake down below," describes Dalhya L. at Stone Mountain.

Walk-in sites for seclusion: Some parks offer walk-in cabin options for more privacy. "If you're like me and appreciate a bit of privacy when camping, the walk-in campsites at Fort Yargo State Park are the place to go. Just a short 1-2 minutes walk from your car and bathrooms, but you feel much more secluded than the campsites in the regular campground," explains Amalia K.

    What you should know

Reservation timing: Book well ahead for cabin accommodations, especially during summer months and holiday weekends. Fort Yargo State Park fills quickly. "We visited in late April and could only find a campsite during the week. Despite Covid-19, the park was open for day-use and overnight guests," reports Nancy W.

Leveling challenges: Many cabins in the area require some adjustment for comfort. "The only downfall was that the trailer needed a lot of leveling. But it was totally worth it. Our site was on the lake. My husband and son enjoyed fishing and paddle boarding right behind our site," shares Susan K. about Stone Mountain.

Road conditions: Some parks have challenging access roads. At Amicalola Falls State Park Camping, "Roads are extremely steep getting to the campground," warns Kevin B., while another visitor notes: "I read a lot before my trip, so I knew to except the 25% grade incline going up to the campground."

Weather considerations: Summer heat can be intense in Georgia. For cabin camping near Duluth, one visitor to Tiny Cabin noted the importance of cooling: "The ceiling fan and air conditioning unit do a great job of cooling in this GA heat."

    Tips for camping with families

Activity options for kids: Multiple age-appropriate activities keep children engaged. At Red Top Mountain State Park Campground, "This isnt for backpackers but for camping with your family, its good. They have water and outlets and very very clean bathrooms. Like cleaner than a Publix bathroom. Kid friendly," notes Cris C.

Transportation considerations: Some larger parks offer internal transportation. Harvey B. points out at Stone Mountain Park: "There's all kind of activities for the kids. They have free transportation within the park/campground area. Helpful staff too."

Child-friendly programs: Seek out parks with structured activities. "Friendly staff, with the Jr ranger program still going with the help of adult campers during covid. Still so much fun and so clean and beautiful!!" shares Cheryl C. about Red Top Mountain.

Beach access for swimming: Lakes with designated swimming areas provide built-in entertainment. At Fort Yargo, "Great swimming and hiking," notes Barbara C. Many cabin locations feature sandy beach areas with roped-off swimming sections.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection for large rigs: Margaritaville in Buford provides full-hookup cabin sites that accommodate larger rigs. "We had a pave site full hookup pull thru with lake view. Very easy to get in and out, private and quiet, we had a picnic table, fire ring and bbq grill," reports Fanny D.

Size limitations at state parks: Be aware that some cabin sites have size restrictions. "Number 18 does not look hard, but the layout is very difficult to get into. The bend halfway into the campground would be extremely difficult with much bigger than 27' camper," warns Soren B. about Amicalola Falls State Park.

Weekday advantages: For those with flexible schedules, consider non-weekend stays. "Have waited six months into our RV life to start reviews for fair comparisons. Spent 7 nights. The weekend nights were so crowded with cars spilling into the camp roads, loads of large groups at each site. Felt very claustrophobic. On weekdays the park became a lovely ghost town," advises Christina about Hard Labor Creek State Park.
