    Cordele KOA

Ranger Review: OOFOS Shoes at Cordele KOA

Ranger Review: OOFOS shoes at Cordele KOA Journey

    Campground Review:

Right off I75 in Georgia sits a small KOA with TONS of amenities! Being just a block off the interstate I assumed it would be noisy. But all the trees make a great sound barrier and we had a nice quiet weekend and will definitely be back!

This campground accommodates Campers, with spaces up to 90 foot long! (up to 50 amp), Tents, and even offers Cabin Rental! Has a pool, propane fill station, firewood to purchase, laundry room and updated bathhouse. a dog area, wifi and even offers cable, for the people who like to camp inside 😉

Our weekend cost was about $70 for out tent site, there were a few people staying in a camper long term who mentioned they do offer reduced rates. I didn’t get to check on the cabins, but they look super cute from the outside and run $50 a night if you book online.

Nearby attractions (we did not visit) include Lake Blackshear, a manmade lake, with a really cool dam, and Georgia Veterans State Park on one side. They have a marina and beach. And The Andersonville National Historic Site the location of a Confederate prison where 13,000 Union soldiers died.

    Product review: OOFOS SHOE

As a Dyrt Ranger I was privileged to get a major discount on an awesome pair of OOFOS shoes.

I'm telling you now, this is the most comfortable thing I've ever put on my feet! It's like walking on pillows every step you take! I have arthritis in both my knees and have been having some trouble lately. The day my shoes got here I was eager to try them on, and once I did, they didnt come off the rest of the night! They help with the pain of walking, and my knees havent hurt in a week. I'm in love!

    https://www.oofos.com/collections/men/products/mens-oomg-low-shoe-white-gray

They're made of a really squishy, super lightweight foam. And have a breathable mesh top. I ordered the light gray color, and love the tiny pop of lime green in the logo and little tag to help pull them on. I was hesitant when I seen they had no laces and the rubber strap on top was fixed. But i had no problems getting them on, the mesh is stretchy and my foot slid right in!

My only complaint is that small rocks get stuck in the bottom of the shoe, in the middle tread. But, they're easy to pop out.

They also offer flip flops too, so that will be my next purchase. OOFOS will be my go to shoes from now on!

Use my link for 10% off your purchase!

    Lake Sinclair Campground

    Woodsy and quiet

Only 5 RV sites. First come first serve. Fortunately end of November not busy. Spacious sites with fire pit, grill, and picnic table. Bathrooms are rustic, not well kept, not much hot water. Overall park is not well kept, but great sites, small beach area, and nice lake area.

    Georgia Veterans State Park Campground

    Keep it moving

Georgia Veterans State Park sits next to Lake Blackshear and shares the lake front with a resort. There is a marina , condos and a golf course on resort side. On the Park side there is the much more desirable campground:)

There are plenty of options to choose from in the three camping “loops”. Some lakeside sites have direct access to the water and in camping area 1 you can get pretty close to the fishing pier. A lot of the sites are pull through , in area 3 all sites are pull through and several of the sites border one of the Nature trails. The primitive walk in tent sites are in area 3. There are two handicap accessible sites and two double sites for group camping(the other sites are close together so this just puts you on the same “pad”)There is shade but definitely more on some sites then others. Not a lot of privacy. It wasn’t real busy or noisy so the open layout wasn’t a major hang up for me. This is definitely more of a “organized”, well maintained, military feel campground. I didn’t get the State Park in the woods vibe at all :)

There are rental Cottages which overlook the water some with screen porches. There is a fishing pier behind Cottage one and two.

In addition there are boocoo recreation activities:

Disc golf (a little over grown)

    Pioneer Group campsite

    Aviation and Combat Arms equipment

    A museum

    Model airplane field

Outdoor exercise equipment along with an exercise trail

    Nature trails

    Archery range

    Fishing piers

    Large boat ramp

    Small boat ramp

    Excursion Train

A beach with facilities and shaded picnic area

We only took the time to camp and hike but you could easily spend some time here and do something different every day. I’m unfamiliar with the area and wildlife so I kept the boys on short leashes when we walked in the woods , especially near the water. The trails were nice, somewhat maintained and there was old signage plus benches. Not my favorite this trip but nice enough.

    Jellystone Park™ Cochran

    Quick one night stay.

I stayed two different nights on a motorcycle trip to Western North Carolina, November 6 2019, one night up and one night back. Campground was pretty close to halfway between on my trip. I stayed in one of their camping cabins and it was very comfortable and worked out great. Easy access clean showers and rest room. Highly recommended..

    Cordele KOA

    4.2 stars

This KOA is just off of i75, super convenient for an overnight stop (which was what we did). Our boys loved the early 80s Era playground, but unfortunately it wasn't kept up well and was frankly dangerous- the large swingset wasn't anchored to the ground, the fence was partially torn down near the roadway, and there was rust on the equipment. They didn't kbiw the difference and played on it for an hour having lots of fun, but it is an accident waiting to happen. The woman who we dealt with at check in was awesome- super nice and friendly, and gave me a teacher discount. Our site was a nice large pull through with a picnic table and fire ring. Setup wasn't difficult. There was some wet dirt, could probably use some gravel. The campground looked to be in a retired pecan Grove. Not a ton of privacy but large sites and nice trees. While you can hear the highway, this one is not immediately adjacent but one property away, so it isn't bad. The property between the campground and the highway is a large abandoned building.. slightly shady but not a problem. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

    Indian Springs

    Nice campground - Site 19

1st time for us to Indian Springs. Very clean and well maintained. Site 19 was on a less populated loop and a long stretch of woods on the "driver" side thus no neighbors.  Site was very easy to back into.

We stayed in March, so when the leaves are off the trees, you can see the lake. Kinda doubtful you would during the summer. Gray water dump is very close. Bathhouse was about a 2 minute walk, but didn't use it.

I'd stay on this section again, but maybe across the street. or preferably down by the water.  There's a short drop off behind the fence by the fire ring, that the dog keeps trying to go down and getting stuck - imagine little ones may love that area.

The town of Flovilla is right outside the gates, with  some shops and a nice restaurant. Dollar General is 5 mins away. Dauset Trails Nature Preserve is about 15 minutes away, but note pets aren't allowed. High Falls State park is about 15 minutes away with good hiking trails. Plus boat, and paddle board rentals.

    Lake Sinclair Campground

Good Location for Ocmulgee Mounds Visit

Lake Sinclair, GA: (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good

Summary: I have stopped by to camp for 4 years. This time we stayed in the electric, Loop A which has 5 sites. There were other users there who were concerning. One was what looks to be a homeless extended stay occupant in a trailer. The other was a tent camping couple who decided to camp with their tents in the RV only area. That said, the lower loops, Loop A and Loop D are more visible to the camp host, thus a safer feeling. If you don’t want electric hookup, those loops are a nicer area of the campground.

(70 yr olds in 17’ trailer with a desire for a campsite that has at least some visual privacy - after the trailer is in the spot.)

Overall Rating: 1.5 for the electric sites - they are not necessarily attractive, out in the open, and no visual separation between sites. They are moderately spaced. The non-electric sites(no generators allowed as per website) area 4 rating. There are spacious and well spaced sites in the Loop B. Many sites are set back from the campground loop road.
Price 2023: $ 10.5 for elect site & 4.5 for non-electric site w interagency pass Usage during visit: Very light - Thanksgiving Site Privacy: More privacy in non electric sites Site Spacing: 5 decent sized sites in the electric loop. Non- electric loop has very large sites.
Site surface: Gravel Reservations: First come, first serve.
Campground Noise: Very quiet. Only one other camper Road Noise: Too far from a main road to be an issue. From electric sites and from some non electric sites the traffic in the access road can be heard.
Through Traffic in campground: Not through campground. There is on the access road to access the lake. Boaters use this road along with other day users. Electric Hookup: Loop A, sites 1 - 5 only Sewer Hookup: No Dump Station: Yes, just following the check in station on the right. Potable Water Available: At electric sites. Generators: Not allowed. This is a shame since this campground is so lightly used. Bathroom/ Shower House: Yes - In Loop B (services both Loop A and B). Hot water worked only in the woman’s shower. The hot water in the shower in Loop D works fine and is in a little nicer facility. Drive to that one for a shower. These are pretty old buildings, but pretty clean. Bathroom only house in the day use area is new and nicer to be in. Pull Throughs: Site 5 is a pull through. Cell Service (AT&T): 1 to 2 bars. Setting: In a deciduous forest. Lower loop( non-electric) has a lakeside (or two)trailer sites . Weather: Cool and partial sun. Bugs: None Solar: Depends on the site and probably none when there is foliage. Host: Yes. Located in D-loop .
Rig size: Not suited for big rigs.
Sites: Loop A is the Electric loop with 5 sites. Loop A is not so great. There are beautiful extra large sites in non-electric/no generator lower Loop B. Loop C has been “temporarily”, as per signage, closed for at least 4 years. Loop D has smaller sites, many of which look to be tent sites. Some of these sites are nicely located close to the lakeside in both B and D.

What to do

Fishing at veterans park lakes: Georgia Veterans State Park Campground offers fishing in Lake Blackshear, where you can catch bass and other freshwater species. "The campground at Veteran's is one of my favorites. They have sites on the water, which is where I stayed. Easy to fish here. Great place for kids as you can ride to different areas to fish," notes a regular visitor.

Visit historic sites near cabins: Visitors staying in cabins at Scenic Mountain RV Park can explore nearby attractions in Milledgeville. "We were on our own little adventure to see ghosts! We were trying to find a place that was close to the old state mental hospital and we came across this little gem of a place," shared one camper. Sites are typically within 30-45 minutes of Warner Robins.

Water activities beyond swimming: Several parks with cabin rentals provide water access. At Georgia Veterans State Park Campground, one visitor mentioned, "Great for fishing, boating, swimming... Open and when I mean open space, all over the Park." The park also includes a military museum with outdoor displays of tanks and aircraft.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Campgrounds with cabin options maintain varying levels of cleanliness. A visitor at Twin Oaks RV Park mentioned, "The showers were spotless. We will be visiting Twin Oaks again." Another noted the property had "two bathhouses plenty of clean comfortable facilities."

Staff assistance: Camping cabin guests frequently mention helpful staff. One Twin Oaks RV Park visitor reported, "Had an issue with my unit. Maintenance guy took a part off of his unit & fixed mine. Saved me about 3 hrs. Would not take any money. The staff at this park is FANTASTIC!"

We were the only ones on it and it is in great shape." Most campgrounds with cabins accommodate families with varying amenities aimed at children.

What you should know

Cabin types and availability: Cabin styles range from rustic to modern. At Jellystone Park Cochran, a motorcyclist mentioned, "I stayed in one of their camping cabins and it was very comfortable and worked out great. Easy access clean showers and rest room." Most cabins require advance reservations, especially during spring and fall.

Highway noise considerations: Several cabin campgrounds are positioned near major roads. Cordele KOA campers noted the highway proximity: "While you can hear the highway, this one is not immediately adjacent but one property away, so it isn't bad." Similarly, at Twin Oaks: "Convenient to highway with some noise but better than many."

Off-grid options available: For those seeking more remote cabin experiences, The Hollow at Triple Threat Farm provides rustic accommodations. A visitor simply stated: "Off-grid done right!" These cabin options typically have minimal amenities but offer greater privacy.

Tips for camping with families

Look for campgrounds with dedicated kid areas: Family-focused cabin rentals often include special amenities. Twin Oaks RV Park was described as "Clean, spacious and kids friendly" with "Great community spaces for dogs and kids." Most family-friendly cabins are grouped near playgrounds.

Consider cabins at state parks for additional activities: Indian Springs State Park Campground offers cabin options with multiple recreation opportunities. One family shared, "Even though it a little out of the way, it's close to Atlanta, adorable small town with cute things to do! We rented kayaks and rode bikes all weekend! The cabins were updated and very cute perfect for a weekend away."

Verify swimming options before booking: Not all parks with cabins offer swimming facilities. At Georgia Veterans State Park, "They offer a lake for boating & swimming, a beach for lounging, hiking, golf and Sam's Shortline Railroad tour." Cabin locations with pools or swimming areas often restrict hours seasonally.

Tips from RVers

Check cabin parking availability: Many cabin rentals have limited parking. At Scenic Mountain RV Park, a visitor noted cabin areas have "good sized sites but not a lot of privacy. Sorta like a nice parking lot with grass and trees." Most cabins provide space for one vehicle only.

Consider alternative cabin layouts for groups: Some campgrounds offer unique configurations. At Georgia Veterans State Park, one camper observed they "saw a neat 2 in 1 buddy spot you can put two campers on," suggesting similar options might exist for cabin layouts. Always confirm exact sleeping capacity when booking.
