Highway noise from nearby I-75 provides a constant backdrop at this 50-site campground, though the wooded setting helps buffer the sound. Campers choose between RV sites with full hookups accommodating rigs up to 60 feet and walk-in tent sites that require hauling gear 100-200 feet from designated parking areas.
The campground's layout groups sites around shared parking lots rather than individual driveways, which some find inconvenient for loading and unloading. B M. notes that "there isn't much real close by so grocery before you get there." Tent sites offer more privacy, with sites like #31 providing the most seclusion despite the longer walk from parking.
Wild horses, bison, and alligators roam the prairie accessible via hiking trails, though pets cannot accompany campers on most wildlife viewing paths. The observation tower offers views across the wetlands where visitors regularly spot the park's famous Cracker horses and American bison. Malaney H. describes how "you can literally walk along the wetland trail and stand right next to a horse." Lake Wauberg provides fishing, kayaking, and boating opportunities, with a boat launch available for those bringing watercraft.
Bathhouses remain clean with hot water, though facilities show some age. The dump station serves RV campers, while firewood is available for purchase. Sites vary in shade coverage, with some offering substantial tree cover and others more open. For additional options in the region, campers can explore camping areas near Micanopy or check out nearby Sportsman's Cove Campground.
Reservations help secure preferred sites during peak seasons, particularly for those wanting specific tent site locations or RV sites with the best shade coverage.
