Lake Panasoffkee

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Hikers, equestrians, and mountain bikers all find use at Lake Panasoffkee, a free campground set within Withlacoochee State Forest that gives access to miles of multi-use trails running through the surrounding forest. Reservations are required but there's no fee, which makes it a practical base for longer recreational trips in the area. The campground sits close enough to two nearby towns that grocery runs and gas stops take roughly 15 minutes by car.

The layout divides into two distinct zones: an open field near the horse stalls where equestrian campers typically park, and a more shaded section toward the back with tree cover and enough gaps to run solar panels. As Abby M. notes, there are "beautiful trees for shade but room to get some solar too." Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. Non-potable water spigots are distributed throughout the campground, flush toilets are available in the bathrooms, and a dumpster near the entrance handles trash. A camp host lives on site.

Cell coverage runs at 2-3 bars of 5G on AT&T, and the campground is ADA accessible with drive-in access for rigs up to 50 feet. Road noise is audible from some sites. November and January hunting seasons book the campground solid, so advance reservations matter during those months. Campers wanting a different setup nearby can check out Lake Panasoffkee Layover a few miles to the southeast.

Many campers appreciated the free camping with spacious sites offering both sun and shade options, plus flush toilets and helpful hosts. Some road noise was mentioned, but most found it safe and well-maintained.

Nice spot but some road noise

Great camping spot in the sun or shade; the host was available when I knocked on his door. The bathrooms needed soap, but they were clean. The only problem for me was a little road noise.

Lake panasofkee

This is a beautiful water management site. There are open sites for solar and shaded spots. There is plenty of room for pull through with large rigs.

I'll be back

Stopped in to camp 🏕. Their booked solid for a Hunt. November, January. I rode around to check it out and that's why I said I'll be back. Nice place. Wide open field to park any where there is a fire ring. Sites have a fire ring, and a grill. Also water, non portable. Flushable toilets 🚻. The sites are nice and Wide. All for FREE. You do have to make online reservation.

So great I came back!

Was lucky enough to score a couple more nights this month after visiting last month. This time around, there were no equestrian campers so everyone is aiming for the shady spots in the primitive area. There was a new host this time and didn’t keep up with the bathrooms as well as the previous host but it’s still clean and has running water so can’t complain!

Love love love

This place was PERFECT. There was a big open field where basically all equestrian campers parked at since it was near the horse stalls. There’s also more shaded camp spots towards the back which is where I ended up. Beautiful trees for shade but room to get some solar too. All areas have a super nice fire pit and picnic table. The bathrooms have flush toilets and running water. There is non-potable water spigots throughout the campground and there are miles and miles worth of trails for biking, hiking, or horseback riding. There is a host on site who was extremely kind. dumpster up at the entrance to toss any trash you may have. 2-3 bars of 5G AT&T. Felt super safe all times of the day. Right in between two towns so can easily get groceries or gas with a 15 minute drive.
