Fantastic campground

We stayed here for a chilly winter night and had a lovely time. The campground is clean, quiet, and well taken care of. Close to the river, reservoir, and great adventure access.

Beautiful Campground

I stayed here for one night and was pleasantly surprised. It’s surrounded by tall Lodgepole pines that offer awesome shade and privacy from neighbors. Bathrooms were clean. Camp hosts were friendly. It sounds like there is a lot of bear activity so tent camping could be a concern. There were mostly RVs.

Favorite campground!

Very beautiful area near tons of water. The Vallecito Trail is such a beautiful hike and was right next to our camp site. Can’t wait to come back here- the camp host was very nice and clean bathrooms.

Stunning Campground

The most beautiful campground with sites that are well spread out amongst trees. Utterly picturesque. Hosts were friendly and welcoming. Incredibly well maintained.

A gem

Fabulous campground setting. Vallecito creek runs through part of the campground. Very well kept. Hosts are very friendly, helpful and accommodating.

Gateway to the Wenenuche Wilderness--end of the road; beginning of trail.

Reservations are necessary here and there is a camping fee, but there are no hookups and no dumping station.

We were not able to get into the campsite I had reserved months ahead of time. Our 34' Fifth Wheel and long bed Silverado made that completely impossible. However, the friendly host, Al, found us another campsite. There were not many sites in this campground that would accommodate an RV of the size of ours.

We enjoyed camping here and were able to get solar even though it is heavily wooded. The best thing about it: the friendly and helpful campground hosts.

Utter Perfection

We knew the campground was on a creek, but when we drove up, it was more like a river!! The views were spectacular. Our campsite was extremely spacious and very well maintained. We enjoyed the hike which began close to our site. Mosquitoes were present. The only downside was the lack of a showers in the campground.

Tent only site

We happened to love our site! The reservation map on Recreation.gov was actually a pretty accurate representation of how each site was spaced from the other. Hosts were perfectly helpful and friendly. No complaints whatsoever!

One of the best camp grounds in CO

We spent a total of 8 days at this campground with 2 dogs and 3 kids. it was amazing falling asleep to the sound of the river at night and waking up to the call of singing birds. We enjoyed all the area had to offer. I recommend bringing decent bug repellent as the mosquitos can get heavy at dawn and dusk.

One of the most beautiful campgrounds

Vallecito is one of the most beautiful campgrounds I’ve been to so far. Grounds were clean, most of the campsite were large, bathrooms were kept clean, and the Vallacito creek can be heard throughout the campground. Only reason I gave it 4 not 5 stars was most furkids were not on leashes or leads so we always had pups running up on us while walking my pups. I mean I love letting my girls run free, but be more responsible people. I’d highly recommend this campsite.

Fantastic stay

We had a great time here. Butch, the camp host, could not have been nicer and more helpful. We had a fantastic site for our little r-pod to back into. This place is awesome.

All you need right here

Lots of tent and RV spots, the spaces are fairly private considering all the sites there are. Stores are close to the camp area if you need supplies. The trailhead for the Vallecito river trail is right there. It’s a beautiful hike through the Weminuche Wilderness area. You also have the lake near by and the river runs through the camp ground if your up for a cold water plunge! Gets a little loud at night during the summers...all and all a great little spot!

Clean and quiet campsite

Great campsite. It was clean, well maintained, and quiet (for the most part). There were some barking dogs, but nothing to get too upset about.

The only thing that was no fun and could not be controlled was the mosquitoes. Holy cow, they were everywhere. Bring a lot of spray or bug zapper.

Bummer we couldn’t have a fire, but it’s understandable. It was nice to hear the River even though we weren’t near it. Peaceful place with friendly camp hosts.

Within a car ride to Vallecito Reservoir. We caught some fish and enjoyed our time.

We will definitely be back.

Vallecito is great!

Spent 3 nights, 4 days camping at this nice campground. Best pit vault bathrooms of the summer. Camp hosts are super nice and really care about you. This area is such a beautiful area. One of the most beautiful in Colorado and that's saying a lot. Our site was big and it was right by Vallecito Creek. Big drought conditions going on this year so the reservoir was pretty low. The campground is about 1 or so away from the lake. Lots of fishing, boating and paddle boarding going on plus it was hot (low 90s) so the lake is great to swim in. Durango is about 30-40 mins away. We hiked up Vallecito Creek Trail. It's about medium hike but we turned around about 1.5 miles in because our 8 year old wasn't having it that day. We've hiked it before and wished we would have made it to the first bridge which is about 3 miles in but we had fun. The hike is straight up for the first mile. Bring some good bug spray because there were plenty of mosquitos and flies. The flies were biting on the 3rd day so it was annoying but once we lathered up, they weren't such a problem. If you're looking for a full fledge vacation, check out Durango and stay a few nights at Vallecito!
