Fun Camping in the Middle of Napa Valley Wine Country

I've camped here more times than I can count.  I remember camping here during several wine-soaked weekends with large groups of friends, back in my younger days.  We rode our bikes through the Napa valley, stopping at multiple wineries along the way.  Then, after a day of riding and wine tasting,…

Closed unfortu

Too bad this has been closed. It was a great relatively inexpensive RV park right in the middle of Calistoga, aka Napa Valley CA

Old Growth Redwoods within 200 Miles of the Bay Area

Hendy Woods is a gem, and will always occupy a fond place in my memories.  It was one of the first parks I discovered when I moved to the Bay Area 25 years ago, in the late 1990's. There are beautiful, old growth redwood groves from Big Sur through Humboldt county.  IMO, Hendy Woods is the most…

City campground

Nice picnic tables, standing wood BBQ, big trees, some trash, on the edge of a town. Camp host very nice. River has dried now. One of the best option around I5. Not the best camping experience but not the worst either.

Convenient Location, Good Facilities, Limited Solitude

If you want a great "base camp" location for exploring wine country north of San Francisco, this is a great place.  Located in Petaluma, this campground is an easy drive to Napa and Sonoma county wineries, a bit longer drive to coastal locations like Bodega Bay, and easily within reach for a day on…

Lots to do for families!

This place is great for Families. Has ton of activities as well. The campsites are quite close to each other which maybe the only downfall to this place. The employees are super friendly and helpful.

Tranquil location

This place is great! I had a free trial here and I have to say it was great experience. Beautiful river along with campsites surrounded by tall tress. Nice place to relax, hike, fish and or kayaking. full hookups and well maintained campground along with a decent rec center.

Amazing, Chill Campground

Rolled into the campground hoping for a walk-in and was greeted by the friendly and helpful owner, Chris. I only stayed 1 night on my way through the area, but decided to stay for an extended weekend on my way back. Quiet (due to the rules), clean and both Chris and his wife work hard every day to…

Heaven on earth

My favorite. Very few sites. 1/3 on the beach, 1/3 in the trees, 1/3 on gravel. Big spacious. Any spot is a good spot. Walk up to the ocean. Fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Close to cute town. Lots to do.

Horse Camp

We stopped here on our way home to take some pictures to share with our fellow Dyrt members!

There are hitching post and water troughs, but I didn’t see any corrals. The sites were nice size, and a couple backed up to each other, making a good group site.

Great Bass Lake!!

This lake is amazing for Bass fishing!! There are only a few sites on the water, definitely get there early. All First come, first serve. We seen the sheriff patrol at least once a day here. There are vault toilets and drinking water. Firewood was available everywhere for free, some split, some…

Camping during Covid

The tent camping is good. It’s spread out now because of social distancing. There are only 3 other campers besides me. Dogs are allowed but not on the trails so that’s a real bummer because this is a great place for hiking and horseback riding. Campsite is nothing special but the restroom gets 4…

Great State campground

Families, dogs, families, friends... all go together perfectly. Fairly large campground but sites are far enough part you aren’t right on top of each other. Amazingly enough, even with a full campground, everyone was respectful of quiet hours. Great campground host. Easy access to the Anderson…

Not worth the money

Meh…

I had high hopes for this place, but overall, I’m unimpressed.

The good: Park staff is very responsive. Very close to the 101 with no highway nose.

The bad: No reservations. It is first come, first served. Poison Oak EVERYWHERE. No designated pet areas. Very tightly packed with no…
