Beautiful location, but....

Beautiful location, great Camp Host, very busy (not in a good way). Too many uncontrolled dogs and camp sites are a little tight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What activities can I enjoy at Frenchman Lake?

Frenchman Lake offers numerous recreational opportunities for visitors. The lake is excellent for fishing, boating, and water sports. Hiking trails wind through the surrounding Plumas National Forest, providing scenic views and wildlife spotting opportunities. The area is also suitable for mountain biking, photography, and bird watching. While the campground area itself can get busy, venturing further out allows for more peaceful enjoyment of the natural setting. For a quieter experience, explore the less-trafficked areas away from the main campground.

Is there a map of Frenchman Lake Campground and the surrounding area?

Maps of Frenchman Lake Campground and the surrounding area are available from several sources. The Plumas National Forest office provides official maps of the campground layout and nearby trails. At the entrance, you'll typically find an information board displaying a campground map. For more detailed topographic maps of the surrounding forest and lake area, visit the USFS website or stop by the ranger station before your trip. The on-site camp host may also have printed maps available for campers.

How do I make reservations for Frenchman Lake Campground in California?

Frenchman Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis without an advance reservation system. During peak times, especially summer weekends and holidays, the campground fills up quickly, so arriving early is recommended to secure a spot. For the most current reservation policies, contact the Plumas National Forest office or check the USFS website before your trip. The campground typically has a camp host on-site who can assist with check-in procedures once you arrive.

What facilities and amenities are available at Frenchman Lake Campground?

Frenchman Lake Campground offers basic camping amenities in a scenic setting. Sites are somewhat close together but functional. The campground provides vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings at each site. Potable water is available from communal spigots throughout the grounds. There's a camp host on-site to assist visitors. The campground layout places sites relatively close to one another, which may affect privacy during busy periods. Be prepared for limited cell service, and note that pets must be leashed at all times.
