Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Kenny Lake, AK

Liberty Falls State Recreation Site sits adjacent to a waterfall with thundering waters and clean outhouses. This small campground offers 10 sites, all pet-friendly, with several campsites positioned directly along the creek. Most sites accommodate tents with wooden platforms available, though three sites can fit RVs. Kenny Lake Mercantile & RV Park provides another pet-friendly option with hot showers, electric hookups, and water connections for campers traveling with dogs. The campground lacks picnic tables, so visitors should bring their own seating. Squirrel Creek State Recreation Site features 25 secluded, wooded campsites with bear-proof trash receptacles and pet-friendly policies throughout the grounds. Sites along the creek bank provide $20/night camping with picnic tables and fire pits for campers and their dogs.

Pet owners camping near Kenny Lake should note the varying amenities between campgrounds. Liberty Falls provides hand-pump drinking water across the bridge, while Squirrel Creek offers potable water and clean restrooms. The area features wonderful berry picking opportunities and swimming holes where some pets can cool off during warmer months. McCarthy Road Camp permits dispersed camping with dogs but prohibits campfires, requiring visitors to practice proper waste management with their pets in this undeveloped area. Mosquitoes can be prevalent in summer months, particularly at Squirrel Creek, so pet-appropriate insect repellent is advisable. For RV travelers with pets, several campgrounds offer sanitary dump stations, including Squirrel Creek and Kenny Lake Mercantile, which operates seasonally from May through September.

    Squirrel Creek State Recreation Site

    Very beautiful and clean spot

We really enjoyed camping here. This was our first place we camped in Alaska and it was very clean. It has a beautiful view with the lake right there and the beavers are very active. Clean bathrooms

    Ranch House Lodge

One of our Best Campground Experiences

We stayed here overnight on the way to Valdez and enjoyed it so much that we returned for two nights on the way back. The campground is right off the highway. Check-in was easy, and we were allowed to pick between two site options, and Karen was offering sites that were not next to another camper since the park wasn't full. We chose back-in site 52 with full hookups (50/30/20 AMP) in their new back area both times. Backing in was easy, and we appreciated that the pad has two sewer hookups, with water and electric centered. Water pressure was decent, around 40 psi. Pine trees surround many of the campsites; we had some, but still got a very usable Starlink signal. Verizon showed 4 bars and T-Mobile 1 bar. This campground is essentially off-grid Alaska, with all the challenges and rules that come with that. For example, black tank flushing isn’t allowed due to septic limitations, trash is burned on-site so flammable or unburnable items are prohibited, and the potable water may have some discoloration. The owners, Karen, who is very hospitable, and Andy, have put tremendous effort into creating this beautiful creekside campground. Campers are expected to respect the rules and Andy, rightfully so, lacks a bedside manner for those who do not. It was a delight to have no neighbors and a wonderful water-view site on Tolsona Creek, where we could hear the flowing water. There’s no formal dog park, but plenty of space to walk your dog. Arctic Grayling fishing was excellent while we were there in August. After over 360 reviews with RV Life, this campground ranks on our Top 10 list for Best Campground Experiences.

    Klutina Salmon Charters & Campground

    Right on the river

Well maintained campground. Kind of like a folk festival. Very friendly staff. If you are looking for a great place to camp here it is.

Call and make reservations! 907-822-3991 or kscharters@gmail.com

Prices are a little high for tent camping but pretty standard for RVs. Pets are welcome but drive slowly. Not a ton of room between spots.

    Tolsona Wilderness Campground

    Don't believe the pictures

Dirty, upkept , clutter.  Water is super cold,  no one was tubing.  The pictures must be old, because this campground is in bad shape.  No one is watching their children or pets.  My site  had hanging branches and the squirrels where everywhere.  The trash was open which I'm sure did not help

    Liberty Falls State Recreation Site

    Land of the Free

This camp ground really makes you appreciate the freedom to explore Alaska and see all the beauty. This is one of the most beautiful waterfalls I’ve seen in Alaska. Although this campground is just off the road system, the roads in Alaska can always use some work. Take your time and enjoy the drive but make sure you’re prepared - stores and gas are few in far between once you get back into this terrain.

    Tolsona Wilderness Campground

    Creekside Camping with Amenities

Tucked back in the woods next to Tolsona Creek this campground is about 15 miles from Glennallen. This campground has a small shop, laundry, showers, flush toilets, dump stations, and offers electrical hook ups for RVs. All campsites appear to be located along the creek. This is a family owned campground that offers daily family friendly activities.

King For A Day Campground & Charters

    Great little fishing/relaxed camping spot

Best place we stayed on our 900 mile round trip starting from Fairbanks. Fishing was good. Took us about an hour to land 4 sockeyes. Owners came down, gave us tips and offered to loan some gear we hadn't realized we needed. Bald eagles were playing, and flying around all day. The campsite we picked was by the river, plenty of room, picnic table, fire pit and a spot for our car.

This place is truly local and supports local. We were treated like locals even though we were 2000 miles from home and never been to Alaska before. I'm looking forward to coming back next year.

I definitely recommend this place for anyone who isn't impressed by people being herded from national parks into resorts, funnelled into gift shops reselling Walmart apparel and overpriced "dinner theatres".

    Blueberry Lake State Recreation Site

    Blueberry Heaven

Situated beautifully up in Thompson Pass is Blueberry Lake and on that lake is Blueberry Lake State Rec Site. With 14 campsites it's small but surrounded in beauty. Site 15 is reserved for the host. This is raw camping just restrooms, firepits, and picnic tables. The whole campground is paved which is wonderful and there are two pavilions along the lake for use. Blueberries abound for picking when in season and Valdez is just a pretty drive down the road. Loved everything about this campground. Wonderfully clean bathrooms and only $25 a night.
