Anglers and paddlers find multiple water access points at Blythe Island Regional Park, which features both a freshwater lake and Brunswick River frontage with a boat launch and fishing pier. The county-managed campground sits 15 minutes from Interstate 95 on winding paved roads that lead through two distinct camping areas separated by park facilities.
The primitive camping section offers approximately 20 sites tucked beneath Spanish moss-draped trees with packed sand and dirt surfaces. Stuart K. recommends booking "one of the 4-5 campsites that are furthest south and facing the water" for sunset views, though notes these waterfront spots come with abundant crabs. Sites provide solid privacy with palmettos and natural vegetation between spots, though restrooms require a walk across the road and water spigots are located near the check-in office several hundred yards away.
The RV loop accommodates rigs up to 60 feet with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer connections. Sites feature good spacing and shade, with level surfaces that work well for larger units. The bathhouse receives mixed reviews - campers report clean facilities but note shower pressure issues and limited trash bins. A $5 daily fishing fee applies to lake access, which some visitors find excessive for multi-day stays.
Wildlife encounters are guaranteed here. Domestic rabbits roam freely throughout the park, while deer frequent the primitive camping area. Raccoons actively scavenge at night, requiring secure food storage in vehicles rather than coolers. Jennifer E. warns these nocturnal visitors are "straight up TERRORISTS and aren't afraid to steal your food day or night." The park gates lock at 7 PM with access codes provided to registered campers.
This location works well for campers exploring Jekyll Island and St. Simons Island without paying premium coastal camping rates, though road noise from nearby highways affects the primitive sites more than the RV section.
