Sinks Canyon State Park is located in west central Wyoming just south of Lander, WY. The park is situated in the Wind River Mountains on the middle fork of the Popo Agie River. The site is named after distinct geologic phenomena in which the Popo Agie river disappears into a limestone cavern and reappears a quarter mile down canyon in a placid pool filled with 8 - 12 lb. rainbow trout. The site has a variety of natural habitats which creates diversity of flora and fauna. The canyon provides a variety of recreational opportunities including nature studies, photography, camping, fishing, hiking, world class rock climbing and access to miles of mountain bike trails.

The Sinks Canyon Campground has 14 campsites. It is located between Popo Agie Falls and Sinks Canyon State Park, where the Popo Agie River disappears into the side of a mountain and then mysteriously reappears farther down the way. There is a trailhead near the falls that penetrates the Popo Agie Wilderness. There is a nearby rock climbing area on BLM lands. No trailers over 20 feet. Popo Agie is pronounced "puh-POE-zhuh." Amenities include one vault toilet, picnic tables, cook grates, and potable water.

Primitive camping with no electricity, each site has a firepit and table. There are 3 vault toilets throughout the campground Potable water is available along with firewood. All campsites and Yurts are reservable only. Call the Call Center at 1-877-996-7275 to make a reservation.

Great place close to many very cool sites and activities! Amazing limestone climbing, although I prefer the Wild Iris crag. Fishing the Popo Agie is challenging but rewarding! The hike into the Popo Agie Falls is worth seeing!

Cost is $15/night. Camp has pit toilets, pottable water and level sites. Each site has a fire pit, table and grill with grate. Dumpster available and bear proof storage is available in each site which is a bonus! The camp close to Lander in the state park is superior to this campground. But this is nice with average amenities.

Climbing, fishing, hiking, Oh My! 

Loved camping here. Arrived late, but still found a spot. Beautiful park, nice sites. Gorgeous hiking in this part and Pop Agie Falls trail nearby.

Rustic and beautiful

Perfect. I don't say it lightly, but... full disclosure, I'm from Lander originally. Camping here is like coming home, and you can't beat the fishing. Be sure to hike to The Falls!

Small campground with  vault toilet and potable water. NOT recommended for larger RV. Pogo Aige runs right through and good access to hiking trails. Be sure to drive the Loop Road from the Campground back over to Hwy 28. Found campgrounds there I will try next time. Don’t miss the Falls but be aware there is a change in elevation (stop at visitor information ).

Perfect for Tent or Van Camping.

This place is incredible.   One of my favorite places and would go back in a heartbeat.  The canyon road goes straight up and includes a number of small campsites along the way.  We stayed at sinks canyon and had a great time. The sites are nestled against the beautiful rushing mountain creek.  We enjoyed the hiking and swimming and got to love this special place.  The rates are very reasonable and all handled through self pay.  The camp host is awesome and has firewood and lots of stories.  We spend two night but could have stayed a week or more.  The paved sites are a bit uneven.  So you will need levelers if parking a camper.  The tent sites and yurts are very popular here.  Highly recommend this one.  The grocery store in Lander offers discount for campers if you produce your pass.  

Great Mountain Creek Site 

When I checked the website to make a reservation, it appeared all of the sites except the yurts were booked. In a panic, I booked a yurt for two nights. We were surprised that upon arrival, many sites were empty. The ranger at the visitor center explained that the website was very confusing; the only reservable “sites” are the yurts. Since others are first-come, first available, check out all the sites carefully as not all are level and some barely have enough room to park a car. Some back up on the river, which is nice. Our yurt was nice and clean. There was a mattress cover on the bed, which was not expected. A table and three chairs were a nice touch. You are expected to clean the yurt before departing. All sites/yurts have easy access to several trails (walking) but you do need to drive to see the Sink/Rise, which is very interesting. Pit toilets and no hookups. Water pumps are available.

Nice campground but check for best site before deciding

My stay was weird (to me), as I got there late and left early and car camped and woke to snow I didn't anticipate and there were cattle grazing the area. I am not altogether sure I was supposed to stay but saw no posting to the contrary. 
Anyway, it was a beautiful spot. The creek is loud, which I liked, and the sun is beautiful rising on the hills.

Good?

We have stayed in the Sinks yurt system many times, but winter is our favorite. There is electricity, spotty internet and a heater you can turn on. 10 below zero outside and we keep it at about 45-50 deg inside. Super clean, very well maintained. You are required to clean well before you leave. Sleeping on mattresses/bunks or fold out futon mattress. Also inside is a small table and chairs, pine carved furniture. Broom, mop, cleaning supplies are provided. When we have stayed in Winter, no other soul is there. The park plows and shovels before your arrival. The Milky Way is spectacular on a clear night. Photos below are both winter and summer. In the summer, you can hear rocks and boulders rolling in the Popo Agie River (Pronounced "Puh- Po Shuh" (two words). There are 4 yurts that sleep up to 6, and one very large yurt that sleeps 12. Picnic tables, pit toilet, fire ring, trash bin nearby. In the winter, bring your own wood. Many good hikes in summer and a few trails to XC ski or snowshoe in the winter. 

You can shower at the city pool on 9th Street for a small fee.

Winter Amazing

You just have to get out and explore. We had to park at the Sawmill portion of the campground, due to the size of our motorhome at 38’. Would have loved to be able to stay at the main area, but this worked well for us. Plenty of room. The river ran right outside our window. 
Follow the road into Shoshone National Forest for some spectacular views of the valley. There is also a lake, can’t remember the name, up on top of the mountains, offers dispersed camping along with a bunch of cows, along the lake shore, or you can bring your kayak and just cruise the lake at an easy entry. 
Sinks Canyon State Park offers a number of trails for hiking and we enjoyed the ones we had time to go on. Trails by the main campground, by the Visitor Center, and across from Sawmill going up the hillside. 
Lots to do. Lots of fun for the kids and the parents. Now that we know, looking forward to heading back. 

During the 2020 season, the state of Wyoming has requested reservations for every stay.

Beautiful area to explore. Campground was well kept and offered lots of great walking/hiking opportunities. Sinks!!!!

We tent camped here for one night. 
We had to park a little ways away from where our site was, but it was so sweet and tucked away next to the rushing river we loved it!

The bathrooms are primitive but clean, though can be full of flies.

It's a gorgeous place to pitch your tent.

We stayed at site 27. Picked it for its proximity to the river, though I didn’t realize it also had such a close proximity to the highway. Our site was a parking spot. This was stressful because we have 3 young kiddos. 

The site was paved, but not level. Our plastic levelers kept sliding on the pavement when we went to drive onto them. Very frustrating after an 8 hour drive. 

All that being said, we were only about 15 mins from lander. The sound of the river was beautiful and the views were incredible. 

ON the highway 

Nice small campground located 7 miles south of Lander, WY in a canyon alone the Popo Popo Agie river. 
Clean and comfortable, but very tight for trailers over 20 feet. Very tight!
Friendly and helpful staff. 
We had a bar plus of AT&amp;T signal, so some connection. 

Beautiful sites right along the River

I had a great site! The views were equally great! The sites were close together but I didn’t mind since the views made it worth it. The fellow campers were quiet and respectful. The proximity to trails made it easy to get some quick hikes in and a good place to rest after some of the longer ones in the area. The bathrooms/vault toilet were very clean. They cleaned them daily. I spent several nights here and would for sure stay here again.

Nothing bad with to say about this place. Highly recommend staying here.

We had a spot that backs up to river and you could hear the sounds the entire night = heaven. We even had a little trail that goes down to your own little spring.

Everyone was super friendly and though no showers and fancy bathrooms, everything was clean.

We hiked in the morning and the views were to die for and the trail was a nice way to get heart pumping!!! Dogs allowed on trails and they have bags for you to clean up after them  I highly recommend and we will be back!!!
