Shell Reservoir Camping Area is located in Bighorn National Forest, featuring a mix of forested and open terrain. The area experiences temperature highs around 80°F in summer and lows near 10°F in winter. Nearby attractions include Shell Falls and the Medicine Wheel National Historic Landmark.

Fishing is allowed year-round, ice usually clears around early June. This fishery is comprised mainly of Brook trout, which are maintained by natural reproduction.
