Shadow Mountain - Dispersed Campsite #10, near Bridger-Teton National Forest, is a fantastic spot for those who crave stunning views and a bit of solitude. With multiple dispersed sites along a well-maintained gravel road, you’ll find plenty of room to set up camp and soak in the breathtaking scenery of the Tetons.

This area allows campfires, so you can enjoy evenings under the stars with a crackling fire. Just a heads up, though—bring your own firewood, as it’s not provided. Visitors have raved about the expansive views, with one camper noting, “Best camping view ever.” However, be prepared for some pesky bugs; several campers recommend packing bug spray to keep the mosquitoes at bay.

If you’re up for some exploration, the surrounding Bridger-Teton National Forest offers a wealth of outdoor activities, from hiking to wildlife watching. The drive-in access makes it easy to bring along your gear, whether you’re tent camping or rolling in with an RV. Just remember, this isn’t a place for those looking for amenities like drinking water or restrooms, so come prepared for a true back-to-nature experience.

Dispersed camping is the term used for camping anywhere in the National Forest OUTSIDE of a designated campground. Dispersed camping means no services; such as trash removal, and little or no facilities; such as tables and fire pits, are provided. Some popular dispersed camping areas may have toilets.There are extra responsibilities and skills that are necessary for dispersed camping. It is your responsibility to know the camping rules and regulations to make your experience safe, and to keep the natural resources scenic and unspoiled for other campers. Due to over use and high impacts, certain areas in the Jackson Hole Valley have had designated sites numbered for use. This is to help lessen the amount of impact on the resource. Shadow mountain dispersed camping has approximately 15 sites in designated areas along a back gravel road that is not for everyone. Site 10 is shared with 10A but site 9 is also along the ridge but more private. Other sites along the road are completely private. Best camping view ever. 

Best views

The road up is very well maintained. Multiple dispersed spots that are very large with amazing views of the Tetons! Bring your bug spray through!

Beautiful Camping!

Drove through the whole mountain, only found one available spot on a Wednesday. The mosquitoes were so bad , we ended up leaving before the night set. Driving through the mountain I did see other great spots with grand Teton views that were already occupied . ATT and Verizon Service 

Beware of mosquitoes 

We arrived around noon on a Sunday and landed spot #9, which was pretty epic. The road is great and there were several open sites on the way up. Some spots were broken up into several smaller spots (a-c). Spot #9 was near the top and had near 360 views, perfect for sunset over the Tetons. 

…but the bugs. I spent several hours in the tent just to get some relief and make it to sunset. The flies and mosquitoes were horrible! Beware. 

Beautiful but buggy

(October 6th, 2023) We got here late and squeezed into either 1A or 1C since everything else was taken, but the site was beautiful. We backed in between the trees for privacy and had a perfect, small area to ourselves, up until a big group of teenagers with multiple cars set up camp right around the corner (not in a designated spot). We knew it was a Friday night, and we could hear even more partying down the road, but we still wished for peace and quiet. In the morning, we walked down the road a bit to watch the sunrise reflecting off the Tetons. Even though our experience wasn’t perfect, it was gorgeous, so close to the park, and most importantly, free! I would definitely try to come earlier to get a more secluded site.

Beautiful but LOUD

Absolutely breathtaking experience camping in site #10a. We got there around 1-2pm and every spot was already filled except for 10a. We accidentally missed it the first time but caught it on our way back down. We went as far as site #17 before we turned around. Plan ahead. Get a spot early and put out some chairs/tables to mark it as yours if you have other plans for the day. It’s a dirt/rocky road uphill the whole way. We wanted to stay for 2 nights but it ended up raining the entire night and was forecasted to rain the entire next day so we moved on to the next location. Beware! If it rains, that dirt/rocky road turns into pure mud. I hydroplaned the whole 15-20ish minutes down. Thank god for downhill braking systems! Would I do it again for that view? You bet.
