Kortes Reservoir Miracle Mile Dispersed camping area sits between Seminoe and Pathfinder Reservoirs in the high desert terrain of central Wyoming. Located approximately 30 miles southwest of Alcova, this primitive camping zone provides direct access to the North Platte River. Elevations range from 6,000-6,500 feet with sparse juniper and sagebrush vegetation dominating the landscape. Weather conditions change rapidly with high winds common throughout the area.
What to do
Fishing access points: Multiple river access sites make this area popular with anglers seeking trout in the tailwater fishery. "Nice isolated and primitive site. Good fishing," notes John S. about Kortes Reservoir Miracle Mile Dispersed.
Floating opportunities: The section between the reservoirs offers excellent water recreation. "Amazing fishing and floating opportunities. Make sure to get all of your shopping needs before heading out, because the closest marina for restocking is about 40 minutes away," advises Kasy A.
Wildlife viewing: The surrounding terrain provides habitat for pronghorn antelope, mule deer, and various raptor species. "The views, sky and wildlife here are the reason for the 3 stars," mentions Cable A. about Bishops Point Campground, which shares similar wildlife characteristics with the Miracle Mile area.
What campers like
Isolation and quiet: The remote nature appeals to those seeking solitude away from developed areas. "The area is very pretty but can get windy at times. We went on a weekend and still managed to find an area to ourselves to go fishing and bike around," reports Kailey A.
Riverfront positioning: Campsites located directly along the water provide convenient access for anglers and boaters. "Plenty of camping, epic fishing, and tons of water! This camp spot is between 2 reservoirs and offers plenty of camping for RVs or tents right on the water with access to restrooms," explains Kasy A.
Desert landscape: The high-desert terrain creates distinctive camping conditions. "Desert lovers would love the mix of mountains and lake," shares Shirlee A. about Bishops Point Campground.
What you should know
Limited services: No cellular service exists throughout the area, requiring advanced planning for emergencies. "There is no cell phone reception. But it's all 100% worth it if fishing is your thing... you'll soon learn why it's called The Miracle Mile," notes Kasy A.
Road conditions: Access requires navigating dirt roads that become problematic in wet weather. "Basic camping in established campgrounds and dispersed areas along the mile, mostly tenting but small trailers are possible, long drive in, roads are dirt for last ten miles not good in bad weather," warns John T.
Weather exposure: The open landscape provides little natural shelter from elements. "This campground is in an area with several boat launch spots so it gets very noisy. It is also very windy here with no trees," shares Josh L. about nearby Glenrock South Recreation Complex, which experiences similar wind patterns to the Miracle Mile area.
Tips for camping with families
Bring entertainment: The remote location means children need activities beyond electronics. "We went on a weekend and still managed to find an area to ourselves to go fishing and bike around," suggests Kailey A.
Water safety: Strong currents in some river sections require close supervision of children. "The water is great especially if you have a boat, or paddle board," notes Katie S. about similar water conditions at Bishops Point Campground.
Bathroom planning: Vault toilets are widely spaced throughout the camping area. "The big negative to me is the bathroom situation they're really far away for some spots. But all in all it's good spot to stay!" shares Katie S. about comparable facilities at Bishops Point.
Tips from RVers
Size restrictions: Most access roads and camping areas accommodate smaller rigs only. "Basic camping in established campgrounds and dispersed areas along the mile, mostly tenting but small trailers are possible," advises John T.
Self-contained systems: No water hookups or dump facilities exist on site. "There's also water available although there's not a hook up at each site," explains Jann W. about facilities at Platte River RV and Campground, which offers more services than the primitive Miracle Mile area.
Leveling challenges: Prepare for uneven terrain when selecting a site. "RV sites are extremely small. Whoever was in charge of the website's marketing did a bang-up job, because let me tell you, the reality is a far cry from those picture-perfect images," cautions GoWhereYouAreDraw N. about a different local campground.
