The road down to this dispersed camping area requires high clearance and four-wheel drive, with grades exceeding 12% and rocky terrain that challenges even full-size trucks. Forest Road 2918 leads campers to multiple pull-off sites along the river, where the sound of flowing water provides a constant backdrop.
Sites vary considerably in size and suitability. Ashley A. found a "cozy little spot far enough from the road with views of the river," though tent campers may struggle to find level ground among the limited suitable spaces. RVs and campervans have more options in the numerous pull-offs, with some sites accommodating trailers up to 18 feet. A trail provides direct access to the water for those wanting to explore the riverbank.
Cell service reaches most areas near the paved sections but becomes spotty in lower sites, particularly during smoky conditions. Weekend crowds fill the better spots by early evening, making weekday visits more promising for site selection. The area includes both an open camping zone and additional sites accessible via a dirt path that continues up the mountain. Fire rings mark established spots, and campers can find boondocking near Olympic National Park throughout this section of the forest.
Traffic on the main road creates some noise, though sites farther from the pavement offer more separation from passing vehicles.
