## Overview

 The Split Mountain Group Campground is located along the banks of the Green River at an elevation of 4,800 feet (. The highly eroded Split Mountain towers over the campground. The campground is near [Quarry Exhibit Hall,][1] where you can see 149 million year old dinosaur bones still encased in the rock. Adjacent to the campground is the Split Mountain Boat Ramp where river rafters come off the Green River after trips through Dinosaur National Monument's canyons. 
## Recreation

 Dinosaur National Monument covers over 210,000 acres (84984 ha). [Visitor Centers.][2] The monument features two visitor centers - one in Colorado and one in Utah. [Quarry Exhibit Hall.][1] You can see over 1,500 dinosaur fossils still in the rock inside the Quarry Exhibit Hall (Jensen, Utah). [History & Culture.][3] Numerous cultural sites reveal stories of the people who lived here before and include Fremont petroglyphs, homestead cabins and former ranches. Hiking trails allow in-depth exploration. [Hiking][4] . There are miles of trails for hiking and cross-country travel. [River Rafting & Boating. ][5] Whitewater rafting, both commercial and private, are is popular on the Green and Yampa Rivers. The Yampa River multi-day rafting trips begin at Deerlodge Park. The Yampa rushes downstream 44-miles (71 km) to join the Green River at Echo Park. Boaters continue downstream on the Green River to the take-out at the Split Mountain boat ramp. The Yampa is the largest free-flowing tributary within the Colorado River system. As such, it has a shorter season marked by fluctuations in water level resulting from snow received in the winter. ## Facilities

 The campground offers four group sites that accommodate both tents and recreational vehicles. Each campsite has a picnic table, campfire ring with grill and can accommodate up to 25 people and six vehicles. Drinking water and flush toilets are available from early April to early October. However, no water, sewer or electric hookups are available for recreational vehicles. RVs can not fill their potable water tanks at the campground. 
## Natural Features

 The campground is set on a bench along the Green River and is dotted by Fremont Cottonwood and sagebrush. Campsites offer views of Split Mountain. Limited shade is provided by the few trees in the campground. 
## Nearby Attractions

 In addition to the monument, nearby Utah State Parks, the Ashley National Forest, Flaming Gorge National Recreational Area and Bureau of Land Management sites provide additional recreational opportunities in the area.
## Charges & Cancellations

 No-Shows. A camping no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date. Reserved campsites will be held until check-out time on the day following your scheduled arrival. If a customer does not arrive at the campground by check-out time the day after arrival or does not cancel the reservation by the times listed under \"Late Cancellations\" above, the customer may be assessed a $20.00 service fee and forfeit use fees. Refunds Customers must request refunds no later than 14 days after the scheduled departure date. Recreation.gov will not grant refund requests after 14 days of departure. Refunds for Bankcard Purchases: Refunds for bank card payments will be issued as a credit to the original bank card. Refunds for Emergency Closures: In the event of an emergency closure, the Recreation.gov team will attempt to notify users and offer alternate dates (as appropriate). If this is not possible, reservations will be cancelled and all fees paid will be refunded. Reservation fees for free tickets are non-refundable in the event of an emergency closure.

The Best Camping Near Jensen, Utah

This campsite is in the middle of the Dinosaur National Monument on the green river. It is a small campground with a group site and some individual picnic / camp sites. There is a boat launch and this is commonly where the rafters either enter or exit a raft trip. The sites are small and the bathroom facilities are kept pretty clean. There are a several good hiking trails in the area including some with petroglyphs  along the way. Lots of wildflowers and wildlife.  The newly remodeled Dinosaur query is worth going through and is only about two miles away. The only problem I had with this site is making & paying for the reservations was a little difficult. Also there is a fee to get into the monument. 

On the Green.

This is a pretty open campground located right on the green river. There is a boat dock and a beachy area. All kinds of wildlife can be seen here; big horn sheep, cranes, elk, deer. You can also fish for various types of fish; catfish, carp, and pike. Very pretty area located down in the bottom of a canyon.

Beautiful Area

this campground has a lot of wide open spaces for group campaigns but you lacked the tree coverage to do that it's also nice because it's right on the Green River so it is a spot where rafting boats come off just to know that.

Group camping 

This is a great little campsite to enjoy after exploring the dinosaur quarry. Dogs are allowed on leashes. There is a creek that runs next to the camp site and easy hiking trails all around it. At night it is so dark you can see every star in the sky. The deer and sheep are very active at night which is very fun.

This campsite is in the first few miles of Dinosaur National Monument along the Green River. It has 4 campsites but each campsite has three turnout parking areas that accommodate about 9-10 cars. The sites are $40 each and can be reserved online. I estimated each group site was about a football field of space. Each site has three fire rings and about 6 picnic tables. Each site is separated into 3 different sites. Most people who reserve online do not realize how much space they have even when they are here. 
There are public bathrooms with indoor plumbing including a sink, urinal, and toilet. 
There is clean running water available. No shower. There is a second bathroom under construction (we never heard noise from the construction). 
The two of us were traveling in one van and found the Green River campground (the other campground in DNM) was packed with people, and the sites too close together. So we bit the bullet and paid $40 for a group site here. It was such a large amount of space we wound up letting other travelers stay the night in the other two spaces in our site. Even with others “in our site” we still had about 10 times more space then if we stayed in the Green River Campground. The next three nights this campground was reserved. We asked another camper if we could stay one of their 3 spaces and they were more than happy to share the abundance of space. 
The night sky was magical. 
Lots of kids in this campground.

Walking distance to trails. 
Walking distance to a boat ramp where lot of rafters take off. 
A couple of miles from the DNM Quarry. 
Don’t miss the trails up to Hog Canyon and Box Canyon, trail head is at Josie Miller Cabin. Easy trails for all ages. Box canyon was incredible. 


GROUP CAMPSITES

We spent a glorious 2 nights at one of the Western-most camping spots right with a private path to the river &amp; a nice little swimming hole area. Our dog was in heaven! We enjoyed time on the beach and at the site. Be aware there are lots of ants around in the summer though! GREAT hikes from nearby trails. Don't miss the museum either!

Lovely - especially on the River

Group camps only, rafting boat ramp takeout is close by, seems this cg is best for the boater types before and after a float on the Green River. Reservations needed. Camp host onsite.  $40.00 per site, per night when water is available (early April to mid or late October)Reduced fee ($6.00 per site, per night) when water is not available

Nice for the rafting groups

Stayed here in mid October when the Green River site was closed-- campground was surprisingly full but felt nice and spaced out. Sites and bathrooms were clean and water was still on when I went. Ran the trail between the two campgrounds in the morning and the views were stunning. Thankful for a National Park that is (at least partially) dog friendly! Really loved the quarry wall exhibit as well-- would stay here again but think I would venture to one of the more remote camping sites to see more of the gorgeous landscape. Had decent signal with verizon.

Gorgeous autumn camping

    We visited for the day &amp; tried to picnic here. This is the only picnic area on Cub Creek Road. This is odd because the picnic sites are intermingled with the group sites. It made no difference on June 6th, because the whole area was closed&amp; employees were doing.....something. We ended up picnicking on the boat ramp with our lawn chairs &amp; it was outstanding!

  

    I would recommend this campground on the basis of it's scenic beauty. It's primitive with no utilities. They state flush toilets, but we couldn't check that out. If I had a tent I would be all over this. Just remember, it's a group camp &amp; you may have a lot of partying neighbors. We visited Split Mountain Group Campground, no overnight stay

Beautiful!

This group campground is very nice and located right next to the boat launch which is probably the most beautiful area in Dinosaur 🦕  Monument. Fantastic hiking and interpretive sites. Really really worth your time.

Very nice

Its inside the park which is a plus. Its mostly shaded in the evening which is a huge plus in the summer.  The bathrooms dont have showers is my only complaint. The views are amazing the river access is amazing . Thw sites are a little close together which is par for the course in these camp grounds. One loud family can really spoil things
