Unlike the other trail systems in St. George Field Office area, the Hurricane Cliffs Trail System wasn't developed because of its awesome slick rock or incredible views, and it isn't inside a protected area such as a Reserve or Area of Critical Environmental Concern. This trail system developed because it's an area that is just plain fun to mountain bike.While not the legendary riding of the Gooseberry Mesa National Recreation Trail (under whose shadow this trail system sits), the Hurricane Cliffs Trail System has its own rewards. From smooth, rolling terrain to rough, rocky slabs, there are over 36 miles of great riding single-track in the system.Be sure to check each trail you plan to visit as there are user group restrictions. For example, the Canal Trail is only open to hikers, and equestrians are restricted to existing roads and the Chinatown Wash.

arrived in the dark but we were  able to find a site in the 30’s range- loved it especially when we woke up in the morning and saw the view. we stayed a second night tucked into a ravine next to some boulders and we definitely liked the wide open spot the first night best. easy navigating with a low clearance camper van.

CONS:

Dust... and I mean dust! 

Fine, silty, reddish stuff that wafts in the air, settles in your screens, your rugs, your skin, and generally coats anything air touches. The views are worth it, just be prepared to constantly wipe, mop, wash feet, shoes etc.

Sheep's Bridge Rd (SBRd) is pretty Washboarded right now. It is doable going slow, but your gonna rattle you're innards a bit.

Spacing is decent,  but not 'I'm in the middle of nowhere'. 

Rigs about 50-100yrds apart, 6-12 rigs/tent/cars a night in our area, half usually only there for the night.

Everyone pretty respectful of noise &amp; lights after 10pm. 

Mornings a little noisy as the mountain bikers come through. 

Only 3 OTA channels



SITE 1-12:

Silty dirt, scrub brush, no shade, 360 views

#1 right off SBRd, easiest overnight, and sized to hold a few rigs. Very dusty.

#8 half way in, deceptively large site. You can't  see how big/ long it is until you're past it. Easily held a large Class C &amp; 2  5vers, Could hold more in a group situation. 

#6 could hold our 34' 5vr, and we saw a 40'+ 5ver get in there but WOW that guy is GOOD!

#7 could hold us backed in, truck disconnected to the side.

There is a loop to turn around at site 12, IF no one has parked in the road.


We scouted out other locations in this area as well. The 50s sites are easier access to Zion, but pretty crowded, and not particularly level for us. 25-36 had some nice sites, but a long drive on the washboarded SBRd, and most of the good sites stayed full the 14 days we were here. 38 is an easy overnight right off SBRd similar to #1 on main road, can hold a couple rigs and very dusty. #13 be careful, the big open spot on google maps is actually NOT Dispersed camping, the road on the left leads back to the sites.



Stunning views but dusty

This and the various other listing along Sleep Bridge Road are all the same. There a 5-8 marked sites along the road for about 5 mi in. Make sure to stop at the Virgin River Falls Park along the road. It's a nice swimming hole. Great cell service with T-Mobile. My sedan made it just fine. Roads are well maintained. 

Camping fun!

Easy drive in on Sheep Bridge Rd. Sites are kind of sparse, but we did have one big tree for a little shade at Site 41. Wish we had our mountain bikes with us as there is a huge trail network here. Great night skies.

Great free camping near Zion NP

This location worked well for daily visits into the park. From pictures it seem like it may be too wide open and barren, but the views are actually really good, and sunsets are great. Sites are well spread out, and there are plenty of them. We were here in early October, and seems like you Should be able to find a site this time of year (early October). 

We were in site 28 and were equally close to vault toilets at the beginning and end of this spur of the road.￼ Sites 31 and higher will see the highway traffic below although it’s far away and you probably don’t hear it.

Very convenient for Zion. Wasn't very busy when we were there on a mid October Saturday night.

Designated disbursed campsites 

We tented in site 48. Sites 40 - 48 are on a side road off of the Sheep Bridge Road. At the beginning of May, all sites were full by evening. They are designated for tents, but are accessible to RV's. For tenters, the low brush offers a bit of privacy for bathroom activities. You can hear the highway, but it's far enough away to not be annoying. You can get to sites 40-46 with a carefully driven passenger car. 47 and 48 require at least medium clearance.

Close to Zion

DESIGNATED CAMPSITES ONLY

Great spot, central to Zion, an hour and a half from Bryce, and a hop skip from the AZ border.  Need supplies? Hurricane and La Verkin are a few minutes away.  
Went in July, monsoon season.  It rained with thunder, lightning and wind everyday around 2pm until 6/7pm.  And it was hot.  Make sure to be ready for the heat with shade and plenty of fluids + salt supplements to keep your electrolytes in balance. 

Great spot, dispersed but near civilization.

We camped for two nights (Thurs and Fri) in early October. Attached are some photos from our site as well as a map of the camping area. There are 40ish camp sites along unpaved roads. The main road is unpaved but navigable by most any car. The secondary roads that lead to the individual campsites are a bit more treacherous. Would recommend AWD or at least not a super low car as it will likely bottom out. We did it slowly without issue in our Subaru. The camp sites are big enough for multiple cars or an RV. There are fire pits at each. About 100 yards or so between camp sites. We left our tent setup unattended Thursday day while hiking in Zion and had no issue. 

The drive to the park is about 30-40 minutes, longer depending on how strong your car is. We were averaging about 10mph on the unpaved roads. 

Overall a great place to stay! Beautiful stars, amazing land scape. Quiet and safe place to stay. Will definitely stay here again! 

Great place to stay for Zion! 

This is a great spot for easy access to Zion’s west entrance. It isn’t the quietest spot, lots of people pulling in to find spots late into the night, and you can see and hear your neighbors, but that didn’t bother us much personally. Everything is sandy, so be prepared to shake out your bedding before bed. The roads were not rough, just sandy and bumpy. Many spots to choose from, just look for campsite markers or fire pits. You can hear bomb testing from Nevada which was cool to us, but just a heads up.

Beautiful views as well! The road is very bumpy and campsites are close enough to hear neighbors but not bad at all for free camping
