What to do
Wildlife observation: Brazos Bend State Park Campground offers exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities with a focus on the resident alligator population. "Brazos Bend is know as the Alligator Park…and for good reason! Of you go on a moderate temperature day (this is the key. If it is too hot or cold you won't see Gators) you can see literally dozens of massive alligators. We are talking 6 feet long and right on the pathway," notes Ashley C.
Astronomy experiences: The George Observatory located within Brazos Bend State Park Campground hosts regular stargazing events. "This is such a great park to enjoy and spend a weekend away from the city without traveling too far. The observatory is also incredible. There are so many friendly astronomy enthusiasts who are willing to share a peek through their telescope and share their knowledge," reports Candy P.
Fishing access: Several parks near Hitchcock provide fishing opportunities. White Memorial Park offers accessible fishing areas for anglers of all skill levels. "Pretty big place with lots of trees. It's a large open area, but it's usually not busy in the wintertime. Nice place to go fishing there's a small doc," says Star L.
What campers like
Diverse trail systems: The equestrian trails near Hitchcock provide riders with various terrain options and difficulty levels. According to Drew P., "I've been going to Brazos Bend since I was a kid. It's always fun to hike or bike around the trails and see all types of birds, alligators, and other wildlife."

Accessibility: White Memorial Park Campground provides convenient camping with minimal requirements. "Easy to get to, we were the only camper here. What you should know
Seasonal mosquito activity: The wetland environment near Hitchcock creates ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes. "Nice place for overnighting. Or camp for the 3 day limit. Nice clean park. Sites have concrete picnic tables. But bring a fly swatter for the mosquitoes. A couple got into my home on wheels and when I killed them they left a big bloodstain," warns Curtis D.
Weather impacts: Trail conditions can vary seasonally due to flooding and temperature fluctuations. "I love all the trees although it's not great if you're trying to charge up your solar panel. There is a small neighborhood nearby so you will hear kids playing. Otherwise it's very peaceful," notes Serena R. about Whites County Park.
Permit requirements: Some parks require camping permits even for free stays. "I got the camping permit just by calling the phone number at the entrance, they provide me an email to sent my driver license and car type. That's it, they sent me back the permit. Everything is free," explains Diana.

Tips from RVers
Site selection: Choose sites that accommodate your specific needs. "Staying here as a pass through for a few nights. VERY clean campground. Sites are far enough away that you have privacy. Large clean sites with water and electricity. My starlink is a little spotty with the trees but am still able to work remote with no major issues," advises Jules S.
Beach proximity options: For RVers seeking coastal experiences, Beach RV Camp Site- Pelican Perch offers convenient beach access. "4 minute walk from to the beach! This host has thought of it all. Concrete pad, games, full hook-ups and more," notes Ashley F.
Overnight alternatives: Free camping options exist for those traveling through the region. "Nice free camp, we found a spot to drive back a little bit so we could set up camp tucked away," suggests Shelby L.
