Dispersed Camping

We drove in mid day and couldn’t find a spot, unfortunately. All dispersed spots were taken. However, there are parking spaces that you can park in overnight in front of hunting shelters. Just be mindful of how you park and don’t take up handicapped parking.

Nice stop

Very friendly family run campground. Very clean and well landscaped complete with a pavilion and plenty of grills.

Great family campground

This was a perfect place for a weekend getaway. We stayed at a tent site and were happy with the amenities. There’s a pond for fishing and swimming, trails to hike, and playgrounds for the kids. The only downside is the sites are quite close to one another and the golf carts can be loud, although…

Sites very close together. Bath House pretty nice though.

The sites are very close together. The tent sites have a sand base to the site and sand gets everywhere! We were across from the bath house and the bath house was nice and clean but kinda small. Friendly atmosphere and it appears that most people are long term campers.

Relaxing

This place is a jewel. The owners were present and super friendly. The grounds were extremely well kept and the bathrooms were impressive. We will definitely return.

On the fly

My husband and I took a road trip and needed to find a spot to car camp last minute in the area. The narrow road to go up/down is alittle sketchy but we made it. The first two spots were taken so we drove to the end where it seperated to private drives. There was a fire pit and a trail that we…

Nice, but sites are small

Admittedly, this was our first trip out with our new (to us) travel trailer.  The campground was clean and had nice amenities.  It was too cool to play mini golf and we were there before the pool opened.  The setting around the campground is beautiful and pastoral with cows grazing.  Lots to love…

Awesome RV Park

Hello, we stayed here last weekend and had a blast. Its a very well kept park with over 300 spots. Plenty of room in spots for pets and children. We had a blast with out 3 year old daughter and our standard poodle.

Beautiful mountain campground

The staff here is friendly and attentive. They do an excellent job cleaning the bathrooms/showers and maintaining the trails and roads. Upon arrival, a staff member escorted us to our campsite and offered to help us back our tiny teardrop into the site. Sweet. The site we had was fairly level and…

Nice spot for trout fishing

Lots of sites for camping. Pros: nice fishing area for trout. Has a swimming hole for the warmer days. 2 playgrounds for the little ones. Nice bike/hiking trail they leads to the swimming hole. Super friendly owners. Cons: extremely small bath house, that is unisex. Doesn’t really have a store…

Beautiful but a scary nighttime drive

So I had this great idea to stop here at about 10pm on a Friday night. So hubs and I started up the winding mountain road that quickly went from paved to gravel... before we knew it we came upon a one lane tiny bridge... mind you we are anything from tiny. We are a 40’ fifth wheel with a daulie…

Great spot

Great place by Blue Ridge Pkwy. Not very far off Pkwy, we had no problem getting there with our Artic Fox truck camper and pulling a Jeep. Stayed next to a creek at the end.

Multiple Dispersed Sites

Several dispersed camping sites where you can easily park a vehicle. There are several along Roses Creek road and along New Ginger Cake road.

Definitely worth the hikes!

The sites all throughout Grandfather are pretty awesome but you have to really look into the details for each site as many do not allow for a campfire, so you will want to ensure you have an alternate (approved) cooking system. We enjoy the trails out here. I will say, these are no joke especially…

  • plenty of stream for water on lower elevation portions of trail
  • fun but challenging hike
  • shanty spring is one of the few upper elevation water resources
