    Stonewood Farm

    Unique Farm Experience

I’ve never “glamped” before, so I can’t comment much from that perspective. It is not a “luxury” spot. But for us it was better than that because it was fun, comfortable and easy.

About 15 minutes from Ridgeland proper with stores, dining, etc, Stonewood Farm is tucked away in the pines a short dirt road drive off a 2 lane highway.

Kim, the host, is friendly and helpful. She gave us a tour of the farm and introduced us to the animals.

Bring a bag of carrots for the horses.

My son loved the animals and exploring.

The tent/cabin is wood framed with wood and canvas walls. The mattress on the queen bed was awesome. But you will want to spend most of your time outside under the stars and by the fire pit. The area is dark, so good star gazing.

I took pictures of the kitchen items provided.

    Great stay. Thanks!

    Stonewood Farm

    Amazing camping experience

My daughter and I stayed in the glamping tent at Stonewood Farm just before Thanksgiving.

What a great place to unwind before the craziness of the holidays. Stonewood Farm is tucked away and offers the perfect blend of nature and farm life.

All the animals on this off-the-grid Hobby Farm are rescues and really friendly.  My 12 year old daughter was in Heaven! She had fun with the horses, goats, dogs and especially the one cat who visited our tent and crashed our Monopoly game.

The tent itself is spacious and has a tv/dvd, a heater and the most comfy bed ever.  We happened to be there during a new moon and could see a million stars and the Milky Way right over our tent. We could hear owls in the distance calling to each other.

Kimberly and Ed were amazing hosts. The campsite is away form their cabin allowing for privacy, but if we ever needed anything, they were right there to help.

My only concern is this was my daughter’s first time camping in a tent and the bar is now raised high. Haha. This is such a unique experience, we will definitely be back!

    Givhans Ferry State Park Campground

    Nice Primitive camping area

I like the primitive camping area. The bathroom and water source is nearby, as well as a pavilion/shelter. There are three sections, with multiple areas for camping in each one. Each has 2-3 tables and a fire ring.

I hammock camp, and there are plenty of trees useful for this purpose. This is primitive, so there is no electrical or water spout, although the bathroom has both. There is a 1 1/2 mile walking trail nearby, that runs along the Edisto River.

I haven't actually frequented the other camping areas: RV drive-up and walk-in, so I can't review them.

    Excellent Stop tucked off I95

Stayed at #52 and it was very private, level, and clean!

The gravel kept the camper clean; the deck with bench, table and chairs, gas fire pit was super nice; the grill with picnic table were awesome. The plot abuts the grassy area but wasn’t too buggy.

We went on a walk with our girls around the camp site, to the doggy area (small bjt super cute with some see saws, etc.), around the lake, and read the historical signs. We checked out the giant chess board, playground, horse shoes, and corn hole.

COVID restrictions were really well explained. Masks suggested, pool sign up with rules posted. We signed up for 6:30 and the team thoroughly cleaned between us and the precious crew.

The food and store was super and reasonable.

Next time I will def check out the nightly wine or beer tasting.

Can’t say enough good things - will def be back!!

Cypress View Campground — Santee State Park

    Big campground on the lake

We camped here over the weekend with the pups. The state park has 2 different campgrounds. We decided for the Lakeshore one. It's pretty big with over 100 campsites. They have the usual amenities like fire pit, and picnic table with bench. Our was private, but the sites in the middle are not. The bathhouse was very clean with nice hot showers. The park has several trails, a visitor center, cabins on the water, at least 2 boat ramps with a bait shop. There are no trash cans near the campsites, there is one big dumpster at the entrance of the campground. It's about 1.30h to Folly Beach. We would definitely camp here again.

    Amazing campground

There are a couple large pods you can walk around, nice pool and a dog run. Staff very nice. Put the bag of trash out in the morning and it is picked up for you. They had pizza and there was no extra charge for additional toppings. We liked it here so much we stayed an extra day. The site available didn’t have sewer but they were all booked up when we called just a couple days ahead. The nice thing about our site was it is a pull through and at the end so we had a very nice area outside our door.

Cypress View Campground — Santee State Park

Small and peaceful under the pines

We stopped heading south and north along I-95 to and from Florida.  Very easy off and on I-95.  Plenty of available spaces in off-season.  The campground is small and quiet.  Camp Host was very helpful. Sites were spaced reasonably far apart but there is no privacy between.  Not all sites have a water view, but most appeared fairly level. Not all sites have sewer access.  Our only complaint was lots of smoke from campfires and grills. Would stay again.

Cypress View Campground — Santee State Park

    Good Little State Park

There are quite a variety of things to do at this state park, and the camp sites are spacious. There is a little store where you can buy any of the little things you may have forgotten. There were not too many people camping during our visit, but it could be that not many people want to stand the South Carolina heat! Either way, it made the visit quiet. There are also plenty of geocaches around, if you're into that. There are 2 places to shower in the campground, so I imagine that once it fills up, you may have to wait to shower. It was pretty clean and the water was clear, so I guess you could just go for a swim! I wish we had brought our tubes and some rope to float out on the water!

Guide to Ehrhardt

Camping opportunities near Ehrhardt, South Carolina include rustic sites and premium glamping accommodations within the southern coastal plain region. The area sits at relatively low elevations averaging 125-175 feet above sea level with a humid subtropical climate featuring hot summers and mild winters. Camping options range from basic tent sites to luxury glamping experiences with varying levels of privacy and amenities depending on location.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: New Green Acres RV Park offers convenient access to local fishing spots. "Very nice and clean. Easy access, friendly and helpful," notes Kenneth D., highlighting the park's accessibility for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Water recreation: The Lakeshore Campground provides direct lake access for paddling and swimming. "We had super easy access to the lake for putting in the SUP and paddling around! The view of sunset on the lake is absolutely breathtaking!" shares Katherine, describing the water activities available.

Trail exploration: Several campgrounds feature hiking trails with varying difficulty levels. "We really enjoyed this park! There was boat access, a playground, nature trails and everyone was so friendly!" reports Jessie N. about Santee State Park, emphasizing the variety of outdoor activities.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many campers appreciate the room to spread out. "These spots were huge right next to highway but noise doesn't bother us. Stayed for a week. Really close to town," writes Wendy C. about New Green Acres RV Park, highlighting the generous camping space.

Clean facilities: Givhans Ferry State Park Campground maintains well-kept restrooms and showers. "Nice campsite, full hookups, enjoyed the lightning bugs, great place to enjoy camping and getting away from electronics since no cell phone signal for T-Mobile and no wifi in campground," mentions Deborah L., noting both the amenities and digital disconnect.

Wildlife viewing: Santee Lakes KOA offers chances to observe local wildlife. "If you don't feel like cooking, order their awesome pizza, wings and they will deliver it to you by golf cart. Our trash was picked up every morning. Campsite, pool and laundry area was kept clean," says Georgia R., describing the service-oriented camping experience.

What you should know

Cell service limitations: Several campgrounds have spotty or no cellular coverage. "Great park. 30 foot trailer backed in no issues with plenty of room to pull truck in beside rig. They have some full hookup sites which is what I got. The only issue is no cell service at least for us and we use att and Google fi," reports John W. about Givhans Ferry.

Highway noise: Palmetto Shores RV Resort and similar sites near major roads experience traffic noise. "This park is really nice and clean! You can tell that it is well taken care of. The sites are large and far enough apart; but be mindful of the site you pick! Our sites were right next to the highway," advises Claire O.

Maintenance varies: Facility upkeep differs between locations. "Such a beautiful location but price doesn't match the upkeep. If you pay resort style prices (in which you do) you shouldn't have to work on shower heads in the bath house," explains Jonah J. about Palmetto Shores RV Resort.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly water areas: Look for campgrounds with designated swimming zones. "The lake access had a beach area that the kids (3 and 1) loved to play at and there was no rocks around that area or dangerous drop offs," Katherine shares about The Lakeshore Campground.

Farm-based glamping: Crunchy Acres offers unique glamping in Ehrhardt, South Carolina with animal interactions. "Come meet their chickens, goats, pigs, turkey, and rabbits! Rent go-carts or sit around the campfire with some s'mores," describes Ashley F., highlighting the family-friendly activities.

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature play areas for children. "This campground has several shelters one with a fireplace at both ends. The tent camping area is awesome and has a great layout with lockable chuck boxes on each site along with power and water. There are several large fields to let the kids run wild," mentions Creighton C. about Givhans Ferry State Park.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Choose your site carefully based on rig size and preferences. "This park has really really long spaces. It's great for when towing a long trailer too but be mindful that there is a whole pile of trees. So when making reservations make sure you let them know you need something long but also easily accessible too," advises Mike F. about New Green Acres RV Park.

Hookup options: Full hookup availability varies by campground. "Campground had tons of room in December. We were right on the lake. Easy park to walk and explore," shares Mary G. about Santee State Park, noting the uncrowded off-season conditions.

Leveling challenges: Be prepared to level your RV at some locations. "This campground is right off 95 and very easy to access. Loud highway noise, but tolerable. Tall trees everywhere. Very pretty! No rock or concrete pad to park on so be prepared to level your RV," warns Tracey S. about New Green Acres RV Park.
