Piety Island Boat-In Campground is located in the [Willamette National Forest](https://thedyrt.com/camping/oregon/near/willamette-national-forest), surrounded by dense forest and water bodies. The area experiences temperatures ranging from 30°F in winter to 80°F in summer. Nearby attractions include Detroit Lake, which offers opportunities for fishing and boating.

## Overview

 This location is available on a first-come, first-served basis only. Visitors are required to physically arrive at the campground to purchase and claim a site. Once on-site, you may be able to pay for your campsite(s) by scanning a QR code using the Recreation.gov mobile app, and the Scan and Pay feature. If this option is available, you will need to first download the free Recreation.gov mobile app https://www.recreation.gov/mobile-app prior to your arrival as some remote areas have limited or no cellular service.

The Best Camping Near Detroit, Oregon

This is a hidden gem for anyone that has an adventurous side. It’s an island, so obviously you can only access it by some type of boat. That just adds to the adventure in my book! It also means less people! This campground only has 22 camp sites, but wasn’t full even though all the others were. Another bonus is that the island isn’t far from the Detroit market. The cost to camp is only $10 per night making this the cheapest on the lake! 

The negatives: there’s two bathrooms, neither of which are maintained. One is closed off because it is full to the top. Yup you heard right! The other isn’t far behind and has no toilet paper. The fire rings are almost completely full of ash. The pay station is hard to find and stuffed full of garbage. Finding a place to leave your vehicle is a nightmare and will cost you even if you have an annual forest service pass.

**Top reasons I love this campground:** 

\- It’s an ISLAND! How cool is it to camp on an island!   
\- Beautiful views from the middle of the northern end of Detroit Lake.   
\- Great for swimming, boating, exploring, hiking, and fishing.   
\- I bet it’s amazing to stay there over the 4th of July.   
\- The firework display from the other side of the lake should be spectacular!   
\- Cheap-$10.   
\- Only 22 sites.   
\- I had cell service with AT&amp;T.   

  

**Things to note: **

\- This should be obvious but, you’ll need a boat to get to and from the island. It’s a quick canoe from either side. 

\- The vault toilets are maxed out. Hopefully, they will be serviced SOON! 

\- No drinking water, no shower, and no guarantee for the serviced toilets. 

\- Bring water and TP. 

\- Fires are allowed and there are several picnic tables.
