So picturesque

Stayed here one night. It got pretty chilly at night. I never found a camp host. be sure to bring firewood as there was none for sale in the campground. I had a site on the lower loop that backed up to the river. It was gorgeous! The McKenzie river is like something out of a Disney movie. Site 17 is very small wouldn’t be able to accommodate more than one tent. Other spots on the loop were a lot bigger so better for larger groups. That said my site did have a cute little area next to river perfect for setting up some chairs and having a beverage just watching the river. Vault toilets no running water just the old pioneer pump no phone service with Verizon

Amazing - but close to wildfire

We went to the campground to check in to our beautiful site on the river but the smell of smoke was so overpowering. We drove to service and realized the wildfire was very close and we would be just outside the evacuation area. We played it safe and cancelled. So sad we couldn’t stay, it was such a clean and beautiful campground!

Best campground in McKenzie

Book early for this one. It is right on a running river, with the greenest tree canopy. Every site is spacious, clean, and has a view. Plenty of places to hike and walk around. Not far from McKenzie Market for their restaurant and live music.

Dreamy river white noise sites!

One of my favorite off of phone signal spots! Love watching the American dippers “dip” under this Bombay sapphire colored McKenzie River. The bottom loop spots are to die for!

Quiet sites right on the fabulous McKenzie River

If you blink, you'll miss the turnoff to Olallie on Hwy. 126. It's a tiny campground with 17 sites. Half right on the river and the others on a bluff overlooking the river. I spent 4 nights in a Sylvan Sport tent trailer. The sites are pretty small so better for smaller rigs. The McKenzie river is spectacular and runs through the Belknap lava flows which turn the water this amazing blue as well as crystal clear. There's so much to see and do in this area that you'll need to come back numerous times. The campground was super clean with a really nice host, but the "potable" water was very iffy. When I stayed there (May of 2021) the water was a gross yellow and the test results hadn't come back for it. Honestly I wouldn't have drank it no matter what the test results said!!! Not to mention it's a hand pump so if you're solo, bring a bucket. It's a workout and you need both arms to pump the thing. Definitely bring plenty of drinking water along. I used the well water for dish washing and I'm still alive......:) So with exception of the water, Olallie gets big, big thumbs up from me.

Great small campground in the heart of the McKenzie

The campground has river front sites and an upper section by the road which is where we stayed. There’s a bit of road noise but mainly quiet in the evenings. Sites can fit up to 2 medium tents and 2 cars, and have a picnic bench and fire pit. There are 4 vault toilets and a well pump with drinking water, though we only used it for dishes and to douse the fire. Bring a bucket or wide mouthed container if you plan to fill up there as the pump is old school and the water comes out all over the place. There is garbage collection (not recycling). Some websites say there’s firewood at this campground but we didn’t see any and the host was not on site, so make sure to buy some from the markets on the 126 (nearest store is about 15 miles). There’s no cell phone reception at all in that whole area so this is truly a place to disconnect.

Quaint campground on Olallie Creek

My family and I stayed three nights at this campground on Labor Day weekend. Surprisingly, it was not very busy and many campsites were open (this may have been due to the campfire ban). The upper loop that we camped at is right next to the highway, and we heard road noise throughout the day and night. The lower loop is on the McKenzie River, which we could hear rushing by and it gave a nice amount of white noise. There is good access to local attractions such as Clear Lake and the Blue Pool hike. I would not recommend it if you don’t like road noise or want to feel more remote.
