River access draws anglers and paddlers to North Fork Malheur, a US Forest Service campground positioned along the North Fork Malheur River in Grant County. The established site operates year-round within Malheur National Forest, though rough access conditions require vehicles capable of handling challenging road surfaces.
Campers should prepare for primitive conditions and plan accordingly for the demanding approach route. The riverside location provides direct water access for fishing and other river activities. For those seeking easier access, Fopian Campground sits less than four miles north with more conventional road conditions.
Description
Near the Wild and Scenic North Fork Malheur River, fishing for Rainbow Trout is popular. Within 1/2 of a mile of the campsite is the North Fork Malheur Trailhead. The area is an excellent base camp for hunters, hikers or anyone just looking for a quiet get away. The road in to this area is quite rough and becomes very muddy after periods of rain.
