Mountain Exploration with Beach Relaxation

This campground is amazing. The sites are roomy and there is a big field in the middle for the kids and adults to play. We had quite a few soccer and football games during our stay. If you go in August there are blackberries along the creek. You can hike the mountain in the morning and see a gorgeous vista of the Oregon coastline. You can travel to the beach and have a bonfire. There are fishing villages nearby where you can purchase a crab net and go crabbing. Get a fishing license to keep it legit. The showers and bathrooms we're clean. The camp host provides educational programs for the kiddos. And there's plenty of water spickets around the campground. If you go during the 4th of July, park on the side of the highway (safely) and see the fireworks off the coast. This is one of our favorite places to camp.

Awesome and cozy

This spot provides an excellent way to stay far enough away from sand to feel like you are not sleeping on the beach, but close enough to splash in the surf.

Humbug

This is a nice park tucked away in the pine trees it is off the beaten path. It is a very enjoyable park with a path to the beach.

Great Spot

Humbug Mountain was a great stop, although a little smokey due to the fire in Brookings when we passed through. Snagged a great spot right on the creek, across from the showers/restrooms. Drinking water was one site over from us. A short walk to the beach, crossing under the highway, which was beautiful. I highly recommend it for those passing through on the Oregon Coast. Only downside was the highway noise, but that stopped after about 7:30 pm. Very convenient to Gold Beach, Rogue River, Port Orford, Bandon, Samuel Boardman Scenic Corridor, etc.

Nice quite camp site near the beach!

Humbug was great, it is between two mountains so protected from the ocean winds with a creek and short walk to the beach. The facilities were nice and camp sites clean. The best part though is the short walk to the beach. Took camp site 17 or 18 when we went it is right on the creek and one of the closer ones to the beach.

No bah humbgus here!

Lovely green area, lots to do in nature here (we met some people scuba diving). It’s a pretty small campground but it’s not usually full, there are two separate areas. The smaller one has some tent sites right along the water which were amazingly beautiful. There are hot showers, which were welcome after playing in the surf. The Humbug Mountain is a steep hike! This is pretty far from towns (but a wee bit close to the road) and is nicely in the national forests. Nice simple well taken care of place to stay.

Easy stop on the way up the coast

Stopped here for a few hours just to set up camp for dinner. It was pretty bare bones but well-defined. I can see how the lack of privacy and proximity of the sites would be problematic on crowded nights.

Humbug Mountain State Park Campground

Campground is right next to the highway, but it's quiet at night. It's very close to the beach, but protected from the wind in the campgrounds by the mountain. Beautiful scenery and hiking from the park up the mountain! We rate this campground a 9.

3.5 stars

The views near any coastal campground are pretty fabulous and this is no exception. The campground was basic, nothing fancy about it. The sites were well maintained but offered little privacy from neighbors. Also, the road noise was quite prominent and I would think has an impact on getting a good nights sleep :( It would be a great place to spend a night on a trip up/down the coast, but no where I'd stay for days on end.

Decent close to the coast

Good location close to the coast. Had a straight tent site which was basic as would be expected. The big negative is that the sites are close together so there isn't much privacy.

Decent stopover on the way down the coast

Ok for car camping, this campground provides a decent stopover point on the drive down the CA coast highway. It is fairly close to the highway, so you can hear highway traffic. Not recommended for relaxing tent camping. Good night's sleep for van camping or RV camping. Spots are close together but fairly well separated by trees and shrubs. Bathrooms clean, flush toilets, even hot water.
