Great spot!
Very nice campground!
Very nice campground!
You can hike, bike, beach walk, see historic sites in the park and the greater area. This park makes a great base camp for exploring the area. I will be back.
I grew up in Washington state camping and when people say a campground is buggy, I take it with a grain of salt, usually. This campground has BUGS, huge mosquitos that do not quit biting. They made it difficult to be outside. On top of that, the sites have you packed in like sardines with no privacy. The only reason I gave this campground 2 stars was the walking paths off of the campground to get some exercise (still not forgiving on the bugs, in fact, even worse) and we was an elk the morning we were leaving. Otherwise, most likely won't be back to this campground.
The campsite, although large, was well spaced and had water and electric hookups, rare for a State park. Tons of beautiful paths. We were able to take our bikes to the beach and ride the coast to a jetty. Later that day, we skipped over to a cute lake and launched our kayaks while it was still light out. When we went exploring the paths later on, we discovered they have WWII bunkers. You can also see Roosevelt Elk everywhere. Everything was clean and quiet. It was a great three days.
We stayed here for 4th of July weekend with friends and it was packed full. No privacy at all. The bathrooms are really clean and it’s close to the beach but you will definitely not be alone. Very loud and lots of people. The mosquitos were also pretty bad. If you don’t mind a busy campground though this is a good spot!
We had an awesome 3 night stay at Fort Stevens! We were able to walk to the beach and see the famous ship wreck. Our campsite was small, but we enjoyed it. We loved exploring the state park. We visited the military fort, which had so much history. We would definitely stay here again, just not in June. The mosquitoes were ferocious.
You would never guess that Ft. Stevens is one of the largest public campgrounds in the US because it is so thoughtfully laid out (it doesn’t appear to be crowded at all) and is so quiet. Lovely sites with good spacing. Easy in/ out for big rigs. The mosquitoes were not a problem at all if your site is on the east side of the CG. If it is on the west or anywhere near the lake, they can be very bad. The bike riding is amazing and the old fort is a lot of fun to explore! My only criticisms are that there are no trash cans at all except for those at the front of the park and a couple by the lake. It also sure would be nice to have a little AT&T coverage somewhere besides at the beach.
This campground was quiet and beautifully maintained. The weather was awesome 👌with lightening and Thunder and rain drops the size of quarters!
3rd time here in the past 9 months. Love the location and accommodations, but the mosquitos were TERRIBLE. So bad we probably will never go back this time of year.
Great efficient site. Electrical hook up, near the bathrooms. Easy to book on line. Very family oriented park. Laundromats nearby for use!
Love this place! The ocean! The Lake! The River! Bike paths! Private sites! History! Disc Golf! Come here at least twice a year--best mid week.
This was a fantastic state park, very well planned. This is definitely a park if you have kids. There are plenty miles of paved bike trails. We did arrive after a bit of rain and the mosquitos were crazy bad. We enjoyed the nature trails and bike paths
Largest campground this side of the Mississippi! But you cant tell it's full of other campers as it is lush. Fully and beautifully forested. I stayed in a yurt! I honestly thought it would be empty but no it came with electricity, bunk beds, and a futon. As well as two chairs and a table. And a very helpful mirror. Being June the yurt was hot inside but I was able to open the window flaps to let air in and at night when it got chilly there was a heater. At the door there was what I an assuming a dehumidifier that hummed through the night.
You park and get out to check in and they give you a map to find your spot.
The best part was the beach with a wreck of an old ship on it. Theres also old war time ruined to tromp on. Loved it here.
Big sites, lots to do in the park, lots to do outside the park, friendly staff, etc.
BIG campground with spots for all types of camping. Tons of walking, hiking, and biking trails. Bathrooms are kind of sparse so long walks to restrooms. Fun things to see at the beach with the ship and old military forts.
Fort Stevens is awesome. One of my most favorite campsites I've ever stayed at. It's so pretty, and it has awesome trails. Where we stayed it was only about a ten minute walk to the ocean. We also did some clamming on the beach which was super fun.
This campground is awesome, I highly recommend it. And it's a very reasonable price.
Fort Stevens is a fantastic state park facility. The campground is large and extensive with options for every kind of camper from tent spaces to yurts.
There are lots of trails to ride bikes on and nearby beaches to relax and enjoy. As well as a few places with military history displays.
We've seen elk right in the campground happily munching on grass as campers walk and ride bikes nearby.
As others have noted, the campground is huge, with multiple loops of sites that are a bit closer together than we would have liked, and cell phone service was poor, but otherwise it was a good choice for our first trip in a travel trailer. Thank goodness for the dump station with multiple lanes because I had unknowingly driven 2+ hours from Salem over the coast range with the gray tank full!
We checked out the fort and the beach but mostly enjoyed getting to know our rig in a beautiful setting. We stayed over until Monday and got to see the staff in action, meticulously tidying up every site. No wonder it’s such a clean and inviting campground. We will definitely go again, and yes, the return drive was a lot easier with empty water tanks!
I went in April and there were a bunch of open camp spots to choose from but I imagine it fills up in the summer months! They offer tent, full-hook up and electric. The sites were all paved with lots of beautiful, tall, shady trees. Nice, clean bathrooms with showers. Access to lots of walking and biking trails. The beach was just a short drive from my spot in Loop G. Cool shipwreck to explore on the beach plus the option to drive on the beach, driving access is just a bit South of the shipwreck. Both dirt and paved biking paths all over the campground and park. Coffenbury Lake has a 2-3 mile dirt path around the lake. Looks like a nice spot to paddle board and I saw some people fishing. There are great views of the Columbia River, with the huge ships coming and going, in the historic area of the park (Civil War Fort and Batteries). The CG/park is a 20 minute drive to Astoria. Ate at the Rogue Brewery and grabbed at coffee at Pier 39 Public House.
Compared to many places this is still a five star campground, but I like others in Oregon better. This one can get quite crowded and tends to be a little more loud and rainy. I love the walk to the beach from here and there’s a lovely lake close by. Visiting the beach and old barracks are a fun day trip too.
This campground is huge!! The grounds are beautiful and clean! My only complaint is that the pads and individual sites were small and really uneven. With so much to do, however, you don’t send much time at your site. The bike trails are seemingly endless, the lake is beautiful, the beach is a last and the fort has so much to explore. This is definitely worth the trip!
A great state park, incredibly well organized with great facilities and space. The location is 10/10, as it sits on a beautiful long beach with sand dunes and a ship wreck.
Like all Oregon Beach state parks it is a huge city so not very peaceful unless there in the off season. But this one is good with the lake and the beach plus a lot of trails. The one playground is small and not impressive for how many sites are here. The full hookup sites are great if you can get one. Staff is terrible but that's all park rangers I have ever encountered
Great park! Very clean organized and comfortable!
Can’t say enough about Fort Stevens. We trailer camped with friends in December, 2020. Fortunately, the weather was great and we spent most of our time hiking, flying kites and walking the beach. The camp staff was pleasant and respectful of Covid-19 safe practices. The Oregon camp reservation website was intuitive. We plan to return.
Great place to go camping with the family. Pet and kid friendly yet still quite and beautiful.
Great spots and lots to choose from. Each spot is spacious and large spots for bigger rigs. The bathrooms are clean and the showers are hot! This is a great spot to ride your bike and take in the beautiful scenery around you.
If your into American History this is your place to visit!!! Explore Fort Stevens Barricks, Peter Iredale Shipwreck, Lewis and Clark State Park. Also there are many hiking paths, the beach and near by towns to explore like Astoria, OR. Along the beach we took our Jeep Wrangler to go exploring and collected huge Sand dollars, walked our dogs and engage in the Oregon clam diggers! The Rv Park was a awesome experience and will definitely be back again!!!
The first few days it rained & made the campsite wet & muddy & washed it out. The last day we stayed at the site we were able to put up the tent on sandy ground and it wasn't so bad.
It's close to the beach, walking distance I hear.
This park has everything. Trails, fresh water lakes and large day use areas. Although most of the spots are very close together with little to no separation from one to the next it was still pretty sweet. We had hookups(not sewer) and lots of fluffy squirrel buddies in our camp to entertain us. The beach is far!!!! Like 2 miles far. But they have really nice trails to take you there. The lake was nice not sure if any fish were in it but we tried to catch one no luck. The wind is pretty constant on the lake and definitely on the beach but the camp site was shielded from it by the trees so that was nice. One complaint is the lack of signage very hard to figure out where anything is and the map almost makes it worse lol. The sunsets are worth the effort to get to the beach for sure.
