Beaver Dunes Park Campground

Beaver Dunes Park operates under city management after the state closed the original park in 2011, creating a unique camping destination where sand dunes meet the Oklahoma prairie. The campground provides access to both fishing ponds and off-road dune areas, with two separate camping sections serving different needs.

The Hackberry area features concrete pads with water and electricity hookups, though no dump station is available. Sites sit close together with only five or six spots total, making reservations advisable during busy periods. Angelika H. notes the location is "away from the main road enough so it gets quiet after dark." Wind can be significant here—one reviewer abandoned their rooftop tent due to 30-40 mph gusts and slept in their vehicle instead.

Multiple entrances within a block of each other can create confusion for arriving campers. The town of Beaver sits just two miles south, offering basic services including a gas station, market, cafe, and Pizza Hut. Payment operates on a self-serve system using a drop box at the entrance, typically running $10-20 per night. Morning dune buggy activity may wake early sleepers, as the dunes attract off-road enthusiasts who can rent equipment on-site. Many campers appreciated the hot showers and level concrete sites, though several noted extremely close spacing. Early morning dune buggy noise affects sleep, but the unique sand dune access and solid amenities make it worthwhile for most visitors.

Nice Park and Pond - Dated but Functional

Came here to fish and saw the campground and decided to stay.

Hackberry sites are concrete pads and level. Spaced close together, but there are only 5 or 6 spots.

There is another campground for the park on the south end of the lake, right on the dunes for off roading.

This used to be a state park, but around 2011 the state closed it and the city took over.

Town is only a couple of miles south and while not big, it has a gas station, market, cafe, and a Pizza Hut.

Windy!

This place is windy! I pulled in late at night after a full day of driving from the west. There's not a lot of easy to find camping in this part of Oklahoma besides RV parks.

There were plenty of spots available, it was a little confusing figuring out which entrance to use, there are several within one block of each other. I ended up driving onto a golf course accidentally!

You have to pay at the entrance, there is a drop box. I think it was about $10 or $12 when I visited.

The biggest issue was the wind. I have a rooftop tent, and the wind was blowing approximately 30 to 40 mph gusts the night I was there. After about 15 minutes, I was afraid the tent would collapse on me. I actually ended up sleeping in the driver's seat of my van instead.

If the wind wasn't so crazy, it seems like it would be a pretty decent place to stay. There's a couple of nice ponds that look like good fishing.

If you're driving through Oklahoma and need a place to stop for the night, it should work for you, but just check the weather first. If the wind is bad, I don't recommend tent camping or rooftop tents at all at this site.

Nice overnight state park even if you’re not driving the dunes

Stayed for one night and I only can say good things about this place. Small Rv campground with 6 spots. The sand dunes are right there and nice to go for a small hike if you don’t want to ORV with your 4 wheeler. Self pay 20$ and good for the night. Water and electricity but no dumping station. Away from the main road enough so it gets quiet after dark

RVs only!!

Dunefield has lots of interesting plants. The main attraction is exploring them by dune buggy or 4 wheeler, which you can rent on-site.

Yay: simple campground with hot showers. Note that there are two areas to camp, one for RVs and one for tents, separated. This is the RV ONLY campground option.

Nay: Since there are so many motorized vehicles on the dunes, walking around them is not very fun (you can rent on site) and they may wake you up early in the morning. When we went about 5 years ago you had to provide your own helmets (bike helmets are ok). Campground is small and the paved (RV) spaces are extremely close together. Make reservations in summer.

Surprise: The dunes aren’t very tall compared to ones we’ve been to elsewhere, but riding through them and making little jumps is a lot of fun. Nice stargazing.

Off-Road sand dunes

Surprise: Oklahoma has sand dunes. You can rent a buggy, go hiking along them, or go fishing in a small stocked pond. The campground has showers, electric at some sites, flush toilets, and shade pavilions. Sites are close together. It is close to the dunes so if you plan to sleep in you will likely be woken up by sunrise dune buggies. Extensive trail system for hiking and buggies. If you’re used to dunes in Oregon etc. you may be disappointed by the size of this park, but it’s a great change of pace in OK.

There are two camping areas that have the same facilities but slightly different locations. This one is closer to the off-road access to the dunes. It has both RV and tents campsites. If your plans involve the dunes but you can't get a site at Pioneer campground, the Hackberry one is just a tiny bit further away.
