Cliffs of the Neuse State Park Campground

Cliffs above the Neuse River is the biggest draw for campers here.

I have camped in this state park several times, including with the Boy Scouts. Other than the park itself, I really enjoyed the camaraderie when our Scout troop and another Scout troop that was camping were playing“Capture the Flag.” I say all of this because it is a great place for group camping. However, it also has conventional camping and cabins. When I first started camping at Cliffs of the Neuse, it did not have more than a mile of trails. Now it has added some more trails. It also did not have showers or cabins in times past. This park has improved significantly over the years and now has showers that are frequently maintained. One of the things you have to be aware of is that this park is sandy, so when you are camping, you will probably want to put some kind of rug in front of your tent or RV to minimize the amount of sand that you track in. Don’t think choosing another site will move you away from the sand. It won’t. Another thing you have to be aware of is that in eastern North Carolina, fire ants can be a huge problem. Some of the trails are easy, but the Spanish Moss Trail is quite steep in some places. Also, the Galax trail is almost always flooded during the spring or after a series of rains. There is a lake for swimming and a large picnic shelter. On weekends, it is not unusual for there to be lots of people at the picnic shelters, so you will have to reserve them. The sites have picnic tables and fire pits as well. This is a great park for swimming and boating, but the hiking is limited. If I am not mistaken, the total length of trails is fewer three miles. However, the main attraction is the view over the Neuse River and the new visitor’s center. Even with limited trails, it is still a great park for relaxing.

    Tranter's Creek Resort

One of the cleanest pools I have ever laid eyes on.

Tent sites with electrical hook ups right beside the river. There is a fish cleaning sink and a pier to fish from also. Small cabins are for rent here as well. This facility has one of the cleanest pools I have ever been in. Very well kept bathroom facilities with a laundromat as well. Very friendly staff and guests here as well.

    New Bern KOA Holiday

Really nice KOA in a VERY pretty town.

New Bern is a really wonderful little town on the coast of NC and this KOA is close to all the action. I really enjoyed our stay and the local town. We stayed in a camping cabin that overlooked the little pond area. The bathrooms were nice and clean and cabins were nicely appointed.

    Cliffs of the Neuse...

This is a great little campground and close enough to be my go to spot. The camping spaces are nice and fairly private. There are fun hiking trails, fishing and swimming with nice changing rooms. You can rent kayaks, etc. for the river at the near by town of Seven Springs.

Raleigh Oaks RV Resort & Cottages

Exceptionally Clean & Well-Organized RV Parking Lot

If you’ve got one of those incredibly large mobile homes on wheels, then this particular RV ‘oasis’ location just off of I-95 north of Four Oaks may just be the perfect spot for you. With a wide-array (OK, 150+ sites in all) of elongated parking lanes for your parking pleasure, all of the sites come equipped with the typical 30 / 50 amp electrical hook-ups, waste disposal and water connections.  And if you don't have an RV, but want to spend the night, no biggie, as Raleigh Oaks will easily rent you one of their deluxe cabins that come as either a studio or 2BR.

Please note: THERE ARE NO TENT SITES HERE! We found that out the hard way while stopping for the night and had to move onwards to another nearby site instead.

That said, from what we did manage to see – apart from the massive White House and AMAZING family pool (there’s actually 2 pools on-site) along with spa / jacuzzi, there’s the standard picnic table, fire ring/ BBQ grill, garbage receptacles and even a community BBQ. The hosts are nice and offer pricing by the night, week and month. There’s a hefty amount of amenities to pick and choose from, including a billiards room, fitness center, basketball and volleyball courts, playground, fitness center, horseshoes and even miniature golf.  Spartan clean, new bathroom and shower facilities await you along with laundr-O-mat and complimentary WiFi and cable that come standard.  Due to all of these amenities AND the fact that this property is very well-maintained, this is just 1 of 2 campground resorts in the entirety of NC that has been awarded a perfect 10 for 10 by Sam's

Insider’s tips? Here's a few: (1) Near this RV parking lot, you do have access to Holts Lake and Tucker Lake, the latter which has great beaches and both have decent fishing, Ava Gardner Museum, Bentonville Battlefield for all you Civil War buffs, Nahunta Park Center for the naturalists, Rudy Theaters for those seeking culture and even Smithfield Outlets for the spendthrifts amongst us.; (2) Saturday and Sunday this spot offers up complimentary waffles, coffee and juice; (3) While there is a rotating line-up of food trucks that frequent this place, unless you've got something amazing in your onboard refrigerator, I would highly recommend Southern Frying Pan for some pretty outstanding southern breakfast dishes, or further NE, try out SoDoSoPa, which serves up legendary smoked BBQ pulled pork, chicken and ribs along with southern comfort food like meatloaf with black pepper honey glaze or country fried chicken; and (4) If you need to load up on anything while you are camping around these parts, head south to Barefoot's Country Store & Grill where you can pick up some groceries as well as order out with some amazing sandwiches, burgers, fried chicken, or for that matter, just about anything fried!

    Happy Camping!

    Fayetteville RV Resort & Cottages

    Great Place to Stay

My thoughts and experience of Fayetteville RV Resort. This was our 2nd time staying here, this time we stayed for a long weekend, Thursday - Sunday during the month of April 2021. It is located a short distance from Interstate 95, making it a great place to spend the night if you are traveling on to another destination. Or stay for a nice relaxing vacation like us.

Our site #27 located across from the office, pool, mini golf and bathhouse is a back-in site, gravel pad, nice, level, average length and width, fire pit and picnic table. Full hook up’s, water, sewer and electric. Also cable tv and internet with average campground WiFi speed.

Things we liked about this campground:

    • All sites seem to be gravel pads, nice, level, average length and width. Full hook up’s. I would guess half of the sites are pull though. They have sites that can handle long rigs. Also depending on your site nice shade trees.

    • The staff and the couple managing the place are very friendly and it shows that they care about the guest. The campground is clean and well maintained. Seen staff making rounds all day.

    • So much to do for the kiddos and adults. Two pools, hot tub, mini golf, basketball court, horseshoes and playground all included in your price.

    • For the adults they have a nice workout center with lots of equipment.

    • During our stay they had scheduled kid activities and movie night with popcorn.

    • On Friday evening they had a food truck scheduled for dinner.

    • We really liked the “Meet Your Neighbors Happy Hour”, they really wowed us with this event. It ends early enough that you can still have a quiet evening around your camp site. Check their activities list for schedule.

    • Saturday morning they had a Waffle breakfast.

    • Two large fenced dog parks, one located at each in of the campground.

    • Two fishing ponds and dirt walking trail though the woods and around ponds.

    • Two newly remodeled bathhouses and laundry rooms. Staff keeps them clean though out the day, we never had an issue with dirty or un-stocked bathrooms.

Verizon cell phone service was great.

Local Eating Places: Nothing special, Waffle House, Subway, Foxes Pizza and a corner grill all within 10 minutes away.

Attractions or things to do in the area: Averasboro Civil War Battlefield and Museum is only 9.6 miles. There is around 10 historical sites along the route that is connected to the history museum. In Fayetteville about 15-20 minutes there is a lot to do and see.

If you are looking for a friendly, affordable campground, open all year long, then Lake Leamon Family Campground is for you. There are no bells and whistles, but you won’t miss them when staying in this little diamond-in-the-rough campground. With a bath house sporting lavatories, showers and a laundry room; an arcade room over looking the lovely lake, fire pits and picnic tables, diving platforms, fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing and the famous Duplin Winery only nine miles away, this little campground is easy on the wallet and a sight for sore eyes when looking for that campsite you’ll want to come back to again and again!

Guide to Seven Springs

Cabin rentals near Seven Springs, North Carolina are situated in eastern North Carolina's coastal plain region, approximately 75 miles east of Raleigh. The area features sandy soil and waterfront access along the Neuse River at elevations around 20-30 feet above sea level. Most cabin accommodations remain open year-round with summer highs around 90°F and winter lows rarely dropping below 30°F.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Cliffs of the Neuse State Park Campground offers excellent fishing spots throughout the property. "Awesome fishing spots throughout. Definitely worth a visit," notes Joshua M. The park's proximity to the Neuse River makes it an ideal location for anglers.

Swimming at the lake: The small swimming lake at Cliffs of the Neuse provides a refreshing option during summer months. "There is a small swimming lake with nice changing rooms. You can rent kayaks, etc. for the river at the nearby town of Seven Springs," reports Chip G.

Historical exploration: When staying in cabins near Fayetteville RV Resort & Cottages, visitors can explore nearby historical sites. "Averasboro Civil War Battlefield and Museum is only 9.6 miles. There are around 10 historical sites along the route that is connected to the history museum," shares Steve K.

What campers like

Natural surroundings: Many cabin campers appreciate the natural settings available at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park. "Many weekend trips here. Lots of swimming and hiking. Rangers are extremely nice. My go to place for camping!" says Dana M.

Community activities: Fayetteville RV Resort & Cottages offers regular social events for guests. "This resort is very community oriented with activities throughout the week and a free waffle breakfast every Saturday. Food trucks come in once or twice a week," explains Tony J.

Lake views: Twin Lakes Resort features waterfront cabin sites with access to multiple water bodies. "The lots are spacious with a good view of the water," according to Victor A. Another camper mentions, "Big lake that runs to the ocean, great size pool, amazing beach ice cream, campground activities such as a live band, DJ, and movie night!"

What you should know

Bathroom facilities vary significantly: While some properties feature modern facilities, others have more basic options. At Lake Leamon Family Campground, one visitor noted: "The so-called bathhouses need a severe update. The bathhouse does not have HVAC in it. There's one male toilet and one female toilet for the entire camp."

Seasonal considerations: Most cabin rental properties operate year-round but may have limited amenities in winter. "Started the year out on some trails. Had the place almost to myself except for the campers," writes Kat M. about Cliffs of the Neuse State Park in January.

Privacy levels differ: Some cabins provide more seclusion than others. "Sites do offer privacy," notes a reviewer about Cliffs of the Neuse State Park, while at other locations, cabins may be closer together.

Tips for camping with families

Look for designated play areas: Choose cabin locations with kid-friendly amenities. At Raleigh Oaks RV Resort & Cottages, "This is our first RV spot. We wanted the amenities for our four year old. Playground, mini golf, horseshoe, 3 dog parks, 2 pools, lots of bathrooms."

Check for cabin size appropriateness: Family cabins should accommodate your group comfortably. New Bern KOA Holiday offers various cabin configurations. "Nice spacious site near the water. The bathrooms were very clean and each had a shower sink and toilet all to yourself. Climate controlled also," shares Joe B.

Consider organized activities: Some properties offer structured recreation for children. "During our stay they had scheduled kid activities and movie night with popcorn," reports a visitor to Fayetteville RV Resort.

Tips from RVers

Location convenience: When selecting cabin accommodations near Seven Springs, consider proximity to services. "Right off the highway, easy to get in and out. Nothing walking distance for food or gas. Next exit away," notes Bob W. about one location.

Connection quality: Internet and cell service vary between properties. One visitor to Fayetteville notes, "Verizon cell phone service was great," while at another property a guest reported, "No wifi and no hookups but our AT&T router worked."

Weather preparation: Eastern North Carolina's variable weather requires planning. "We were impressed that the water lines are heated, so we didn't have to disconnect our water for the unusually cold 2 degree weather," shared a long-term guest at RVacation Campground.
