Kitchen facilities vary significantly between locations - Jellystone Park offers access to a market and nearby dining options, while more remote cabins have limited cooking amenities beyond fire pits and grills. Reservations are essential, particularly during summer months and October when Halloween-themed events draw families. Food Lion and Walmart in Elizabethtown provide grocery options for self-catering guests. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, cabins near Singletary Lake benefit from being "just away from White lake and Elizabethtown to be secluded and private but close enough to get what you need from the Walmart or Food Lion in town."

Little Pee Dee State Park Campground

A quiet and clean state park

Little Pee Dee State Park is a quiet and clean campground on the banks of Lake Norton. Locals often come here for fishing and non-motorized boating.  We were fortunate to witness a mass crayfish event--the recent flooding had brought them out of the swamp and up the spillway, much to the delight of seafood lovers.

The campground had two different campground hosts, and they kept the restrooms and campsites immaculately clean.

Campsites have a fire ring/grate and a picnic table, but no trash cans, and you'll need to bring your trash to a large bin located at the edge of the campsites.

There are some nice sites right at the edge of Lake Norton, but the abundant water plants don't allow you to fish from the side of the lake, and it's not really a swimming lake. These sites accommodate RVs and have water & electric.  If you're on a budget, there are tent-only sites off the water.

The campground recently built a sleeping cabin, which is a cute structure with air conditioning/heat, bunk beds, and a free-standing bed (the cabin sleeps four, total). Guests can use a fire ring and Adirondack chairs, hammock, and grill.

The park also has a nice shelter for use.

There is no WiFi here, and cellular internet is spotty. There isn't a camp store, but the Ranger Station does have ice, firewood, and a small number of souvenirs for sale.

Pedro's Campground at South of the Border

    Roadside RV Amusement Park

If you haven’t been to a roadside circus lately or don’t want to shell out the dough for Disney World, then this particular RV amusement park location just off of I-95 and due south of the North Carolina/ South Carolina border may just be the perfect spot for you.

With a wide-array of parallel, elongated parking lanes for your parking pleasure, all of the sites come equipped with the typical 30/ 50 amp electrical hook-ups, waste disposal and water connections. There’s the standard picnic table, fire ring/BBQ, garbage receptacles, 3-4 communal bathhouses and even a handful of community BBQ’s.

The hosts, who work out of the Camp Pedro Store/ Office are incredibly nice and offer pricing by the night or week. There’s not a ton of amenities to pick and choose from– APART FROM THE NON-STOP LINEUP OF AMUSEMENT PARK options you will find everywhere! But the campground itself features 2-3 community playgrounds, group BBQ’s and the everything-you-need store. And while I looked, there’s no pool to speak of.

Insider’s Tip? Near this RV parking lot, you do have access to Betsy Jackson Bay if you want to get away and off the beaten path a bit to explore nature… otherwise, head back to Pedro’s, put on your silly hat, load up the car full of tchotchkies and get your fill of this whacky Tex Mex experience!

    Happy Camping!

CarrollWoods RV Park at Grapefull Sisters Vineyard

    Actually 4.8 Stars

Spent the week before Memorial Day and Memorial Weekend at Carrollwoods. This is really a nice campground. The sites are well-spaced with a picnic table, fire pit and grill at each site. There’s a pool that was unfortunately out of service during most of our visit there during the 90-degree heat. It was finally open when the weather cooled. There were not many other campers until the weekend and then there were only a few sites left. The grounds are very spacious. Lots of room to walk with a few short paths that go into the woods. It has one of the best dog parks that I have ever been to. It is very spacious, fully shaded by lots of trees and even has a few man-made hills for the pooches to climb. The only downside was it appeared as if the waste bin hadn’t been empty in several days. I visited the winery and the two women who own it are helpful and lively. If you visit, you must get one of their wine floats. My only negatives were they advertise free WiFi and cable. I wish businesses would not promote poor quality products as “free”. I probably could access their WiFi no more than for 3 times in all the time I was there and would last no more than 10 minutes. The cable had several odd channels and there was so much buffering, it was often unwatchable. My only other issue is that they need to do some cleanup in their gardens. There were several planters with dead plants in them from the year before. Either refill them or get rid of them. The beds are well designed, but needed a good weeding. Even with its flaws, this is definitely a campground I would return to.

    Brunswick Beaches RV Resort

5 miles from Kindred Spirit Mailbox

I came to this campground because of its location about 5 miles from Kindred Spirit Mailbox on Bird Island.

The campground was quiet. All the guests were quiet, but friendly.

Water and electric hook-up, laundry on site, showers and toilets behind the camp store office. Great cement picnic tables/benches!

Not close enough to beach unless you have a car or bikes. Parking lot near beach is $10. Pool clean; ice and firewood on premises for sale.

Dump station near entrance/exit. Road into camp is incredibly narrow. 2 vehicles can’t fit; one has to pull over to the side to let another pass by.

This campground used to be a KOA but now it is a Good Sam camp. The road is still named KOA. Address is 7200 KOA Drive, Sunset Beach, NC 28468 (910)579-7562.

    Willow Tree RV Resort

    Amazing vacation

Best RV Resort we’ve been to so far. Large lots with nice long pull through, clean and quiet with a friendly staff. Amenities included nice swimming pool and hot tub. Volleyball net and basketball hoop on each end of pool. Shuffleboard, corn hole, sand volleyball. Game room had a pool table, ping pong table, air hockey. Books galore to borrow, DVDs if you have a player which we don’t, but we don’t camp to watch TV. Store had a puzzle you could spend time working on and a checkerboard with rocking chairs to just hang out in. The lake beach was closed for the season when we went but the inflatables looked like they would have been fun! Mile long paved path around the lake was great for walking or biking. Catch and release fishing too. Had a mix of annuals, short term campers and on the other side of the lake they had nice cabins and a small park model village. Exercise room and a nice clean laundry room. Bath house was 8 individual doors to full individual bathrooms of toilet sink and shower which were kept very clean. Cherry Grove beach was only 15 minutes or so away and there was a Food Lion less than 10 minutes for grocery shopping needs. Resort store had reasonable prices for ice and wood to burn in the fire pit. Only negatives which weren’t a big deal was nothing can be strapped to trees... aka no laundry line or hammock attached to the trees and no tents allowed. We will go back! Wish it was closer to home.

    Smith Lake Army RV Park

    Recreation Heaven

Lots of recreational activities with lake access. Staff was very friendly. Concrete pads are level and sites are spacious with a picnic table and fire pit. Close to Ft. Bragg entrance, Exchange, and Commissary. This campground is near a military runway so be prepared for loud aircraft noise as well as other military installation noise.

Guide to Elizabethtown

Cabin options for overnight stays near Elizabethtown, North Carolina provide access to both inland lake recreation and coastal attractions within driving distance. The region sits in the coastal plains at approximately 100 feet above sea level with sandy soil typical of the Carolina Bay ecosystem. Seasonal considerations impact cabin availability, with October being particularly busy due to fall events and Halloween activities.

What to do

Fishing at Smith Lake: Smith Lake on Fort Bragg offers fishing opportunities for Department of Defense members staying in cabins. "Great Stay for DOD associated members. Playgrounds were phenomenal for kids. Bike and Hiking trails all through out the site. Fishing as well - with respective fishing license," notes a visitor to Smith Lake Army RV Park.

Wine tasting: CarrollWoods RV Park offers cabin accommodations adjacent to a working vineyard. According to a recent visitor, "There were a variety of things to do. The pool, the winery, a couple of trips to the beach and surrounding area. We were well received. We are new to camping and a family of color. We highly recommend," making it a unique option for CarrollWoods RV Park at Grapefull Sisters Vineyard.

Outdoor recreation: For those seeking water activities beyond fishing, Willow Tree offers multiple options. A visitor notes, "Great family fun in the lake on inflatables. Family events, ice cream social, hot dog sales, dance party and nice clean bathhouses. Close to amazing seafood. Huge facility but, not crowded."

What campers like

Clean facilities: Cabin guests appreciate well-maintained bathhouses and common areas. At Willow Tree RV Resort, a camper mentioned, "Bath house was 8 individual doors to full individual bathrooms of toilet sink and shower which were kept very clean. Cherry Grove beach was only 15 minutes or so away and there was a Food Lion less than 10 minutes for grocery shopping needs."

Privacy between sites: Spacing between cabins varies significantly. One visitor to Willow Tree noted, "The sites are huge and along the lake where I camped, they are angled so that you don't really see much of your neighbors."

Proximity to towns: Location relative to services matters for cabin campers. A Little Pee Dee visitor shared, "The campground had two different campground hosts, and they kept the restrooms and campsites immaculately clean. Campsites have a fire ring/grate and a picnic table, but no trash cans, and you'll need to bring your trash to a large bin located at the edge of the campsites."

What you should know

Military discounts: Some campgrounds offer special rates for service members. A visitor to Willow Tree mentioned, "Super easy! Military get 15% discount. You can reserve up to 400 days out. Half of it is due at time of reservation and the rest at arrival."

Reservation requirements: Booking well in advance is necessary, especially for cabins near Elizabethtown during peak times. An October visitor to Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Daddy Joe's reported, "Loved This Place! Great place for family entertainment. Kids of 10, 8, and 5 and all had a blast. We stayed during a storm and the camp staff adjusted their events to focus on indoor entertainment for the families."

Road conditions: Access roads to some cabin sites may present challenges. At Little Pee Dee State Park, a visitor warned, "Road to campground is horrible! Very narrow, trees hanging over it, dirt, but huge holes! Obviously needs to be graded. We booked a pull thru per map, but was not. Had to change to site 29."

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Families with children should consider locations with built-in entertainment. At Little Pee Dee State Park Campground, a visitor shared, "If you have kids they will love the playground that is in the campground as well. There are also a lot of great trails and hikes to do. My family and I did a hike everyday that we stayed here, for a total of 3 hikes."

Bathroom accessibility: For families with young children, proximity to bathrooms matters. "Camped here with our RV, but you can also tent camp as well. The bathroom on site was very clean and taken care of. They also have a shower facility on site too," noted a Little Pee Dee visitor.

Entertainment options: When booking cabin accommodations with children, consider built-in activities. A Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park visitor explained, "this is one of my favorite campgrounds to take the kids. lots of activities with the bears. park has an awesome waterpark, camp store, fishing ponds, outdoor theater, arcade, ice creamery, mini golf, horseshoes, hayrides, etc."

Tips from RVers

Site selection: When booking cabins near Elizabethtown that accommodate both RVs and cabins, positioning matters. A visitor to Pedro's Campground at South of the Border explained, "With a wide-array of parallel, elongated parking lanes for your parking pleasure, all of the sites come equipped with the typical 30/50 amp electrical hook-ups, waste disposal and water connections. There's the standard picnic table, fire ring/BBQ, garbage receptacles."

Noise considerations: Areas near military installations may experience unique noise patterns. At Smith Lake, a visitor commented, "We loved the sounds of freedom and enjoyed seeing our service members practicing flight maneuvers. Being retired aviation, we peacefully slept thru it all."

Winter stays: Seasonal variations affect available amenities at cabin sites. A December visitor to Smith Lake Army RV Park noted, "It's winter so, the lake and amenities aren't available for use. But, they look great and you can fish inside the rec area, just not from the Campground."
