Free camping along a gravel forest road, Courthouse 1 sits beside a creek in Pisgah National Forest with two fire pits and drive-in access. No facilities means no toilets, and the creek-hugging terrain makes it genuinely difficult to get 200 feet from water for waste disposal, a real constraint tent campers should plan around. The flat ground on the far side of the creek adds another practical wrinkle. Bring a trowel and research Leave No Trace protocols before arriving. Courthouse Falls is roughly a half-mile hike up the road, making this a workable base for that trip. Campers looking for camping spots near Balsam Grove will find this one of the more rustic options in the area.
