Wawayanda Shelter is located near the Appalachian Trail in New Jersey, surrounded by forested terrain. Temperatures range from the 20s in winter to the 80s in summer. Nearby, visitors can explore Wawayanda State Park and enjoy activities like hiking and fishing.

The park has four group sites with picnic tables, fire rings and a composting restroom. These sites require a minimum of seven persons. Water is not available at campsites; it must be carried from the main office building. There are no shower facilities. Open April 1 to October 31.

The Best Camping Near New Milford, New York

Extremely well maintained! In addition to the shelter there’s a bear box, picnic table and modeling toilet. The privy is very clean and well maintained. Lots of dispersed camping sites, and space to spread out. Some uneven terrain and rocks. The toilet really made it for me! Even had hand sanitizer! It’s within 15 mins NOBO of the park office where there is a 24:7 bathroom with sink and trash, and a fresh water spigot outside. Right now there’s also a box of socks at the shelter- trail magic!
