camping in NJ is extremely difficult and hard to find decent campgrounds. This place has a few pros as compared to others in the area. It has very pleasant staff, a great pool and decent facilities. Site was ok. Fairly level with adequate hook ups. Had cable, but was very fuzzy. Absolutely no WiFi signal at all. Sites are sand and dirt, so be prepared for that. Most campers are seasonal and typical rude NJ ppl. We stayed for a week to visit family over the 4th of July. I would rate this as exceptionally mediocre, as compared with camping in other states. As for Central NJ it was better than most. A lot of shade in the entire campground was a plus
4½ Stars Quick Weekend Getaway
We stayed at Butterfly Camping Resort in Jackson, New Jersey, for a 2-night weekend in late-August. We’re so glad we did!
Our site(#90) was a level pull-thru with 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable. It was roomy, shady, and easy to pull in and out. The hook-ups were all well-maintained and worked fine. We had plenty of room to fit our car too. The site included a picnic table, charcoal grill, and fire ring.
The gated campground was clean and well-maintained. The swimming pool was large and the water crystal clear. The store was stocked with typical essentials like supplies, fire wood, and snacks. Most of the neighboring RVs were nice and in good shape. The park has bath facilities, a dump station on the way out, and lots of play areas.
The front office staff were all friendly and we love that, especially when checking in at a new campground. When I called for a last-minute reservation, they seemed glad to have us.
This park is close to Great Adventure and not far from the Jersey shore if that’s in your plans.
There were two observations I’d categorize as ‘no park is perfect.’ The site was sandy. The whole place is sandy. This is messy, especially after a bit of rain(which we had), and makes it a constant challenge to keep the sand out of the RV. If the site had gravel, grass, or some other surface, this would be a 5-star review. They offer wifi which is nice to have, but it didn’t work very well. I realize this is a common complaint at many campgrounds, but we’ve come to want to stay connected(at least, a little).
This is a really nice campground with inviting pool and facilities. We can’t wait to go back!
My husband and I came to this campground for a quick weekend getaway with our dogs. We had a great time!
The campground was very well taken care of. The sites had good tree coverage and we didn’t feel like we were right on top of the next site. There was tons of stuff to do. There’s a pond to fish, trails to walk/bike, basketball, sand volleyball, the list goes on and on. Both nights we were there, there were events being put on (a tractor ride, kickball, and a pool movie night). There was also a dog park which was very nice!
The staff was extremely kind and helpful and took great care of us!
Overall I highly recommend this campground, very family friendly. We’ll be going back!
We picked this campground because it was close to my niece wedding reception. We made a multi-stop journey here. It was big rig friendly and the site we were at was private. It had a nice barbecue grill and fire rig. The property is quiet and they have lots of amenities for families and kid (arcade, mini golf, playground, pool, horse show rig). Unfortunately a big rain storm came thru and the site did flood. I wasn’t crazy about having to pay $9 for a day guest to visit us here…
This was our first trip to Butterfly and we will be back! Large playground and lots of activities for the kids. Site was large, and had trees and shrubs separating the sites (we had stayed on 105A). Friendly staff and clean bathrooms. Fishing lake is on the smaller side, but people were catching fish. Definitely in our top 5 New Jersey Campgrounds.
We are wintering here and it seems to be a great place so far. Most of the neighbors that have been here years are friendly as well as the staff that I have met so far. Owners live on site and didn't seem to mind me bothering them on a Sunday to ask about the propane procedures. I am a little concerned about moving to the site they want me to move to in the Spring the corners around the campground seem tight with trees.
Took the dogs here had a wonderful time went hikingand found a little pond for the boys to cool off in.
Stayed once in the early spring. Lots of dirt! We were kind of far from friends & got yelled at for too many people on our site even though all were paid campers either with RV sites or utilizing cabins. Pool looked nice but we came in the early spring so it wasn’t opened yet. Playground was big, but all sand which every kid had all in their shoes. Good rustic camping experience if that’s what you’re looking for!
this campground offers many things we were looking for: proximity to Six Flags, cleanliness, access to nature and entertainment for the kids with quiet and relaxation. The sites are cozy and each lined with natural shrubbery and in some cases fencing. they’re well maintained and raked between campers. the store and game room were newer and clean. some of the cleanest bath houses I’ve seen at a campground.
