    Clark's Custom Camp

Nice Place to Stay a Couple Nights

I've passed through Goldfield Nevada several times and always wanted to stay long enough to explore it more. In October 2020 I did just that. I wasn't sure exactly when I'd get there so I didn't make a reservation ahead of time but when I got near Goldfield I called around and they had a space available. (I called a few campgrounds and I can't remember if others were full or if this one had the best rates. I think I paid $25/night for three nights. Their rates have increased to $35/night in January 2021 (I called to confirm this.) They do offer lower weekly rates.  People were friendly.

It's typical RV park. i.e. You're parked too close to your neighbors. My space was next to the "dog park" which was maybe a 20' x 10' fenced area so I didn't have another RV on that side. That made me happy. Few people actually used the dog park while I was there, They had full hookups. There may have been picnic tables I don't remember. They had showers and a restroom. I liked the location because I could walk just about everywhere. I didn't want to unhitch my trailer for such a short stay.

Overall it was a good stay. I prefer to camp BLM lands because you can spread out and there's a lot of space between you and other campers. I have solar, a composting toilet and running water on board so I'm pretty much self contained off-grid for a week or two.  I'd like to explore the nearby BLM camping next time. The disadvantage would be that you'd have to unhitch to go explore the town.

Forgot something VERY important. You have to visit the DInky Diner. Really good food. super friendly. The owner, Karie, has a story about how she started the diner. Check out the photos.

    Brown’s Town

    Grass camping with amenities

We stayed here on our trip from San Diego to Washington.  We drove in without reservations mid week, and they had a spot for us.  Super clean bathrooms and coin op showers, a small laundry room and high country museum, and a well stocked store.  Very friendly.  We parked on grass, and over the fence was a very nice public country club golf course.  Many of the campers were staying there to golf, go fishing and to ride atvs. Only a mile into town for a large supermarket, Starbucks, and two incredible bakeries.   The view was beautiful.  The grounds right along Hwy 395, so you did hear trucks at night, but we camped further off the road, so it was totally doable.  Would stay here again as a “passing through” not for deep woods experience.

    Brown’s Town

Cozy spot on the edge of town

I stayed 2 nights here Sept 29 & 30, 2020 and I’m glad I did. First off, the price was great which was $28/night throw in a 7 minute hot shower for $2 more(you buy the tokens at the onsite general store) but the cold showers are free. Number 2, Bishop is a nice little town with AMAZING food spots, so you will want a little time to check those out. The staff is friendly all around from check in to grabbing a hot dog and a beer to the hardworking grounds crew. Every tent site has a fire pit, picnic table, and good grass as the grounds crew are watering the sites when not in use. The bathrooms are clean, kept up, and not cramped. The showers are nice and clean too with each shower having it’s own door with lock unlike the showers at the local gym. Right by a golf course and directly off 395 which wasn’t loud during the evening. There are hiking trails about a 30 minute drive away on Pine Creek Rd. They weren’t open when I was there due to the wildfires on the other side of the ridge. Great campground to stay for a couple days to see what Bishop has to offer.

    Sabrina Campground

    A Perfect Getaway

Sabrina Campground is the closest to Lake Sabrina without the feel of tourism. This campground is just off the main road and quaint. It is moments away from Lake Sabrina, North Lake, a short drive to South Lake, and about 15-20mins to the closest city Bishop. This campground is so beautiful, perfectly situated next to a creek, and saturated with Aspen trees that are a beauty to see in the Fall season. Every campsite is well maintained, restrooms are kept tidy, and the trash dumping area is well taken care of. Campsites are all first come, first serve. $28 a night for sites and available firewood for purchase with the campground host. There is no store at this campground, so all necessities should be purchased before arriving. This is the perfect getaway for those that love clean mountain air, lake views, waterfalls, fishing, mountain hikes to glacier lakes, and relaxation. With absolutely no cell service it’s just you and nature. It is the perfect getaway.

    Sabrina Campground

    Nice spot

This campground is in a great location near Lake Sabrina and the surrounding trails. There is a creek that runs behind the camp and the fall leaves were beautiful. Some of the sites are right along the road underneath some telephone lines but the majority are beautiful and quite private. Unfortunately no campfires allowed this time of year but that goes for almost all campgrounds in the region.

    Highlands RV Park

Convenient to Bishop with very nice people.

We stayed here for four nights.  Full hookups are nice, easy and clean.  We did not use the bathrooms or showers due to the pandemic.  The check-in staff was very friendly and informative and nice.  The spaces are a little bit too close together, but on pavement with a picnic table at each site.  Trash disposal available as well as a small area to take the dogs for their business.  There are a lot of amenities in the campground.  Even a fish-cleaning area for those who like to fish in the many local lakes and streams.  The park is located on the north side of town.

    Keoughs Hot Springs and Campground

Oasis along 395, decent overnight stop

Keough Hot Springs is a private campground located outside of Bishop.  The campsites are under cottonwood trees or on a dirt hill next to the pool and hot spring facility. There are flush toilets and showers.  It’s not a great camping experience, but making use of the spring fed pool and hot springs makes it worthwhile.  The hours are not great if you’re looking for an early morning or late evening soak.  The springs and pool are closed one day a week so be sure to check before you arrive if you want to take advantage of them.  The facilities are really dated and haven’t been kept up, but if you are on a road trip along 395 and want a place to stop and soak it’s worth a stop.  There is a desert garden walk and an old dilapidated building of the original hot spring site.  The pool area doesn’t open until 11 so we rode our bikes down the dirt road, looked for the overhead electrical lines and found some open hot springs.  We had the place to ourselves and it was deep enough to sit in and get a good warm soak.

    Highlands RV Park

    Great campground. Clean and crisp.

Site WiFi is legit as is T-Mobile and AT&T service.  Staff is great and accommodating. Propane available onsite at 3.50/gallon.  The Mexican restaurant across the street (1 minute walk) and the Mahogany dried meats + sandwich shop (3 minute walk) had some of the best food. Really loved it.  40.50$/night with Good Sam, onsite laundry has plenty of machines and is very clean.

    Sage Flat Campground

    Welcoming.

Great sites for small RV’s or tent camping. Very funny and welcoming camp host David Mac. Would recommend this camp to anyone looking to get away from the crowds you’ll find further north in the eastern sierras.

    First come first serve.

Guide to Dyer

The Eastern Sierra region surrounding Dyer, Nevada sits at 5,000 feet elevation with summer temperatures typically ranging from 60°F to 90°F. Located in the rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada mountains, this high desert area receives minimal precipitation and features sagebrush landscapes interspersed with rocky formations. Camping options near Dyer include established campgrounds, RV parks, and yurt accommodations that provide access to natural hot springs and mountain activities.

What to do

Fishing in nearby creeks: Access prime fishing spots at Tuff Campground where the campground adjoins a creek with small trout. "There's a creek that runs through the campground. Some people were fishing and we took a small hike on the rock formals east of the creek," notes Candice M., who stayed at site #27.

Hot springs exploration: Visit Crab Cooker Hotsprings for a natural thermal soak approximately 45 minutes from Dyer. Tucker B. cautions: "Got here early in the afternoon to find a group of friendly folks repairing the pipe that fills the man-made tub... I went down and could barely leave my fingers in for much more than five seconds."

Hiking mountain trails: Explore the nearby mountain paths accessible from Bishop-area campgrounds. "There are hiking trails about a 30 minute drive away on Pine Creek Rd," reports Mike N. who stayed at Brown's Town. For more challenging terrain, the trails near Lake Sabrina offer higher elevation experiences with glacier lakes as destinations.

What campers like

Mountain viewscapes: Campers praise the panoramic vistas from Four Jeffrey Campground where sites are "perched up on a hill and offers great views," according to Spencer U. Similarly, at Crab Cooker Hotsprings, Issac V. recalls: "Woke up to the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen in my life."

Creekside camping: Sites positioned along waterways provide both ambiance and activities. At Four Jeffrey, James L. advises: "If you have an option I would recommend scoring a spot in one of the sites along the stream, whichever follow along the side #1 is on, and you will be treated to a private stream-side retreat that feels apart from everything else."

Yurt camping in Dyer, Nevada area: While traditional campsites dominate the region, travelers seeking yurt camping near Dyer find Sabrina Campground appealing for its mountain location. "This campground is so beautiful, perfectly situated next to a creek, and saturated with Aspen trees that are a beauty to see in the Fall season," writes C N. about this established campground with glamping potential.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Most campgrounds operate from April through October. "Only about 10-15 minute drive to the lakes. Overall a pretty good spot as long as you can find shade in the summer," advises Troy M. about Four Jeffrey Campground.

Road conditions for dispersed sites: Access to some of the more remote camping areas requires appropriate vehicles. For Crab Cooker Hotsprings, Thomas K. warns: "4x4 or high clearance coming in. Long dirt road with dips and rocks."
