Big Arm State Unit — Flathead Lake State Park

    Lakeside Camping on Flathead

The campground offers many lakeside campsites complete with picnic table and fire rings. There were 3 yurts for those interested. all vehicles, including camping vehicles, park alongside road; there are few, if any, pull-in sites. There is room for a tent or two in the sIte. Most of the lakeside sites also have a small amount of slope.

The camp hosts were absolutely fantastic! There is firewood and ice for sale at the park. Polson is about 20-30 mInutes away and has grocery stores, etc. If you go to Polson, check out The Cove Deli for some really great ice-cream.

The showers were really awkward, but did the job. They take $ coins (available from host if needed) and quarters.

If you aren’t bringing your own boat, Boat Rentals and Rides is only 2 miles down the road. We rented 2 glass bottom kayaks. Warning: lake conditions change suddenly and we saw the waves blow in 2 dIfferent directions durIng the 2 days we were there. There were no bear boxes at the sites, only one by the bathroom.

    By the Way Campground

    Great Stay, Wonderful Managers.

Our family had a great one night stay. It was very last minute but they had a tent spot available. They do have around fifteen RV spots a few small cabins, and a handful of tent spots. The tent spots are around the perimeter of a gazebo that had electric hookup. They have four total restrooms, two of those have showers, and they have a laundry facility available as well. Everything was clean and we'll kept! Planning on staying again!

    The Sanctuary Campground

    BEST VIEWS AND HOT SHOWERS!

The have lots of campsites, group sites, small cabins, and big cabins!  We rented a big cabin for the 6 of us!

They have restrooms with hot showers! There were lots hiking trails and ATV riding trails!

The views looking at the Rocky Mountains were breath taking!  There was a community area where we could hang out and have a bonfire!

And the price was so reasonable!

Big Arm State Unit — Flathead Lake State Park

    Hidden 💎

This place is amazing! We're staying on loop A and we are right on the water. No electricity but there's clean bathrooms, clean shower house that costs tokens, picnic tables, fire rings, fresh water spickets and access to buy ice and firewood from the camp hosts! So peaceful here. Will be coming back here for sure!!

    Polson-Flathead Lake KOA

    Beautiful campground

Beautiful spot with great views of Flathead Lake. The RV sites were nice and spacious and level with their own patio and chairs. They also offer cabins and tent sites. Some tent sites have water and electric. I was car camping and I had a strange campsite by the cabins for a tent but I couldn't park at the site. There was a small lot close by so that was fine but it also seemed pretty far from the bathrooms. The bathroom was very clean and I loved the private showers. The laundry area was spacious and clean. They also had several brochures on local activities. The wifi didn't seem to reach the tent sites though.

    Rimrock Lodge RV Park

On a hill overlooking the river

There is a Motel, Casino, Lounge. Dining, Bowling AND an RV Park here. Unfortunately, due worker shortage. most were closed. But, a small herd of deer welcomed us at the entrance. That was cool.. The RV park is up the hill to the left of everything else. Once in the RV section, you don't see the other part. There are several seasonal sites, but also travelors. It is not a fancy place, but a nice place. The bathhouse was super clean. The sites were easy in and out. Most sites do have a view of the mountains. Full hookups. Close to Thompson Falls. There is a new brewery in town. Definitely check it out. If you play golf, there is hidden gem not far away. River Bend Gold Course. We played. It is really a pretty, well maintained course. There's a dam, public boat launch, a nice park and playground and a good grocery store. Hot Springs are about 30 min. away.

    Thompson Peak Lookout Tower

    Incredible lookout with amenities!

Just finished up my stay here after snagging a cancellation and I’m absolutely blown away. This was my first lookout tower experience, I was little skeptical about spending $80 post tax for this, but it was well worth it. Beautiful secluded tower with amazing views on almost every side of the tower. So many amenities, this is better than a lot of Air BnBs I’ve stayed at. Working fridge w freezer, coffee maker, microwave, two burner stove, heater, cooking utensils, pots/pans, working electricity and 4 bars of service. I usually go for more remote locations, but this was a wonderful break from sleeping outside in a tent for 8 days straight. Super comfy stay. The drive up was fine. Almost any car could drive up, just be careful with FWD when it gets muddy. As someone who visited solo I felt extremely safe. Padlock on the gate on the road, padlock on the front door, and a padlock on the door taking you up to the 3rd story. Absolutely awesome place for watching sunset, sunrise, and stargazing! I got the opportunity to watch a lightning storm in the middle of the night. trash is PACK IN PACK OUT! There is NO RUNNING WATER here. Pit toilet only. Well worth the money.

Big Arm State Unit — Flathead Lake State Park

    Perfect park

I have nothing negative to say about this beautiful park. We tent camped 3 nights, had our pick of sites in late September, right on the water. The camp hosts here were so friendly and welcoming. They made us feel right at home. Gorgeous view of Wild Horse Island. There are bear lockers, but not at each site. Just kind of scattered here and there. Fire pit, picnic table. We pretty much just hung out at the park, it was so peaceful and relaxing. Crystal clear water. Highly recommended, but I’m guessing it gets pretty crowded in summer.

    Nugget RV Resort

    We Gave Nugget a Try

We decided to stay here because we’ve seen this campground(CG) featured the last five year’s we’ve been on the road by CG review websites, travel forums, and big-name RV bloggers. So we thought we’d give Nugget a try. We followed our RV GPS to the CG that is near I-90, but far enough away that you don’t hear highway noise. There was another camper checking in when we arrived, but check-in was fairly quick and thorough. There was a sign about being a Good Sam Member and we had to ask to get the discount as that option was not available for the online reservation. We then had a very friendly escort to pull through site 63 with FHUs, which is supposedly a premium site. This gravel site has a little grass yard with a picnic table. The site is across from a community fire pit and couple of their little trail heads. When we were there in July, there was a fire ban so not having a site fire pit was no big deal. The utilities are nicely placed in the middle of the pad. Water pressure is good at about 50 psi. We got 2 to 3 bars on Verizon. As there are a lot of mature pine trees in this CG, satellite is iffy. Our campsite was at the north end of the CG facing the woods, so we used our Verizon MiFi versus Starlink. We probably could have gotten the Starlink to work if we put the antenna on our roof, but as we were only here for three nights, we didn’t try. There’s a nice trail system around the CG to walk with your kids and it is dog friendly. They offer a lot of amenities of which laundry was one that we did use. There’s a nice 9-hole golf course just down the road. They used to let veterans golf for free on Wednesdays, but now charges vets only$5. The CG also had a food truck one evening that was convenient. We wanted to see what all the hype was about and we got the chance. This CG has a lot to offer families or campers who desire a lot of comforts. Overall, its a nice and well run CG, but we are not compelled to repeat with all the other options in the area.

Guide to Thompson Falls

Cabin accommodations near Thompson Falls, Montana offer year-round options for travelers seeking forest proximity with varying levels of amenities. The area sits at approximately 2,500 feet elevation in Montana's western mountains, surrounded by Lolo National Forest. Winter cabin stays become increasingly popular from December through February when temperatures typically range from 15-35°F and snow transforms the landscape.

What to do

**Trail exploration: Clark Fork River offers multiple access points for fishing or hiking within minutes of most cabins. "The area is beautiful, set in the mountains with the Clark Fork River running nearby. Hiking trails are accessible directly from Nugget RV Resort," notes one visitor.

**Seasonal activities: Winter cabin stays provide access to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing on forest service roads. Summer visitors can enjoy multiple water activities. "There's a dam, public boat launch, a nice park and playground and a good grocery store," reports a camper staying at Rimrock Lodge RV Park.

**Local exploration: Thompson Falls offers nearby amenities without requiring long drives. "St. Regis is nearby for provisions and they tour having the best huckleberry shakes in MT," shares a reviewer about day trips from nearby cabins.

What campers like

**Privacy options: More secluded cabin sites exist for those seeking quiet settings. "Some spots for smaller campers/tenters only needing water/electric hookups are more private," notes a guest at Trout Creek Motel & RV Park, which offers cabin accommodations year-round.

**Convenience to attractions: Many cabins provide strategic location benefits. "It's near the Idaho and Montana border. I found plenty of time to just chill while looking for a more long term spot," explains a visitor who appreciated the transit-friendly location.

**Recreational facilities: Some cabin properties include on-site activities beyond basic accommodations. "You don't have to leave the campground if you don't want to with tons of great activities," shares a visitor about Nugget RV Resort, which features "pool, hiking trails, pickle ball court, frisbee golf."

What you should know

**Reservation timing: Forest service cabins like Cougar Peak Lookout require bookings well in advance, particularly for summer weekends when they fill 6+ months ahead.

**Noise considerations: Railroad proximity affects some properties. "At first we were a little taken aback by all the train noises but they didn't run too late into the night," reports a visitor to Trout Creek Motel & RV Park.

**Seasonal availability: Not all cabin options remain open year-round. Sylvan Lake Campground operates "Memorial Day to Labor Day" according to their listing information, limiting cabin access outside these dates.

Tips for camping with families

**Bathroom access: Choose cabins with full facilities when traveling with young children. "Bathrooms were good, showers could use some work but they were clean and had hot water," notes a family staying at Nugget RV Resort.

**Entertainment options: Properties with recreational amenities reduce travel needs with kids. At Off The Beaten Path Glampground, visitors appreciate the "nice large tent sites. They also have a geodesic dome you can rent."

**Wildlife viewing: Children often enjoy the natural surroundings at cabin properties. "A small herd of deer welcomed us at the entrance. That was cool," shares a visitor to Rimrock Lodge RV Park, highlighting spontaneous wildlife encounters.

Tips from RVers

**Site selection: RVers with larger units should verify cabin accommodation access. "When we arrived at 9 pm, the office area and road to get to rv park were way too tight for our 40 ft fifth wheel," cautions a traveler who had access issues.

**Seasonal considerations: Fall and spring offer less crowded experiences at cabin properties. "When we stayed (early October) there were plenty of open RV sites. It almost felt like we had the place to ourselves," notes a visitor at Trout Creek Motel & RV Park.

**Utility requirements: Check specific hookup availability when booking cabin accommodations. "Long, pull through RV sites that are over 80 feet long. The prices are well below the competition," shares a visitor at Trout Creek Motel & RV Park.
