Two or three small RV sites and one parked RV trailer available as a nightly rental. Bathroom with shower available. Water and electric available. Friendly and helpful hosts reside in the big house. There are places to eat nearby. Fire pit with comfortable chairs in corner of yard. Very pleasant stay. Relaxing for the soul.

    Watkins Mill State Park Campground

    Peaceful

We stayed Sunday-Wednesday and it was very peaceful. Sites are not right on top of each other and it looks like they all have a fire pit and picnic table. There are only a handful of paved spots and you will need leveling blocks on the gravel. Showers and bathrooms are clean and the hosts are very nice. New asphalt roads throughout the park; nice for walking, biking, etc. Be sure to get biscuits & gravy at “The General Store” just down the road from the park entrance.

    Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA

Crammed in a tent camping field...

Let's Share COVID and a campfire song. When we booked a tent site in the KOA we didn't expect much but assumed it would work for the night while driving across the USA.  Upon arrival we were a little put off by being stuck with several other tents in a field and noticed we were expected to share our fire ring with the tent next door... this was not ok with us and we left promptly and snagged a nice spot in the nearby Blue Springs Recreation Area. Traveling during summer 2020 has been interesting and to expect strangers to share a fire ring and be crammed very close during a pandemic is not only careless but not fun. UGH

    Worlds of Fun Village

    Novel Campground in Kansas City

This was an interesting stay at the Worlds of Fun campground. Located on the property there are RV sites and rental cabins. All RV sites were concrete with 50/30/20 amp, water and sewer. Back-in sites on rows 1 and 3 and pull through sites on row 2.

The theme park offered discounted tickets when staying at the campground and parking for the parks was included. Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun are internally connected, making it easy to walk between the two.

There is a pool, hot tub, laundry and clean bathrooms with showers. The campground did attempt to improve privacy with strategically placed trees and shrubs.

Row 1 (sites 1-20) is along a busy highway with semi truck noise 24 hours a day. I recommend either paying more for the pull-through (further from the road) or the back in sites 69-82 in row 3.

Security was disappointing, as there was no gate to the campground, nor a gate around it. So our campsite (site 2) that backed up to the road was 10 feet off the public sidewalk. Reviews of this campsite on other websites mentioned some petty theft, so we kept our outdoor compartments locked (nothing was stolen).

    Basswood Country RV Resort

A great place to take the kids/grandkids

We have been camping at Basswood for several years, first with our children and now with our grandchildren. Basswood provides amenities that are great for entertaining children, includinga swimming pool and splash park, two playgrounds, a basketball goal, and fishing. Every weekend there are organized activities such as arts and crafts, fishing contests, duck races and frozen t-shirt contests in the pool, and a Saturday evening outdoor movie. There is a great little store with alcohol for the adults; ice cream treats, which we enjoy after a swim; and nearly any key item you might have forgotten to pack. Most roads throughout the campground are paved, and the campground is generally well-maintained. We appreciate the full-service RV spots, but there are very nice bathroom facilities, including showers, in two locations in the park.

    Lake Paradise Resort

    A gem being polished!

We had a fun and relaxing time and loved the woodsy feel to it. We stayed here for a weekend in July 2020 and had a great time!  It is under new ownership and they are working to remodel and renovate all areas. I got to meet one of the owners and one of the owner's kids who works there and they were very nice and very helpful.  In fact, all staff I had contact with were! We had a nice full hookup RV site with a very woodsy feel.  Well shaded, grass and trees, view of water and nice space around us. Gravel site with picnic table and fire ring.  The pool is renovated and very nice. It is very large, zero entry, up to mostly around 5 ft deep with a small area that was 9ft; there is a children's area with a sprinkler. Roads throughout campground are gravel, not paved, if that makes a difference with kids bringing scooters or bikes.  We drove around to see the rest of the campground and saw lots of sites that I'd like to camp in when we come back. The cabins look nice, too. Waved at people sitting in front of them, but did not see inside them.  I'm looking forward to go here again and excited to see the updates they make over the next year!

Note: Included in your camp fee you get 2 free daily passes per night of camping to the pool and a discounted rate for any other swimmers; so for our family with 4 we had the free passes go to the parents and paid $3 each for the kids to swim & we did this two days.  As long as you have the wrist band on you can come and go all day to the pool.

Cons: quite a bit of poison oak around the fish cleaning area, shade at the pool is at a minimum, my phone (AT&T) could not get service there.

    Basswood Country RV Resort

    Tidy and well run park

This park is convient to I-29 but far enough off the highway to be quiet and peaceful. Tent sites, full hookups as well as rooms and cabins are available. As a point of interest, this used to be a favorite fishing spot of President Harry S. Truman, check out the Mother in Law cabin—built at his request.

    Knob Noster State Park Campground

Great relaxing campground with many activities

Beautiful secluded campsite - amenities were clean. Kayak rentals were available for Lake Buteo - kayakers were out on the lake, and the lake has a trail all around it. Nice trail. The other lake, Clearfork Lake, was great for fishing for us! We did have a problem with Raccoons, but with our site being on the very edge of the sites I think that may be inevitable.

    Watkins Mill State Park Campground

    Great Camping

Stayed here for three nights. All spots have plenty of shade when we walked around. Shower house and bathrooms were clean and nice. Lots of things to do such as boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing and swimming. Fire pits were even nice with an attached grill grate.

Guide to Buckner

Cabin camping near Buckner, Missouri offers convenient lodging options for visitors exploring the Kansas City metro area. Located in the gently rolling hills of western Missouri at approximately 810 feet elevation, the region experiences four distinct seasons with hot summers reaching into the 90s and cool winters where temperatures regularly drop below freezing. Most cabin facilities remain open year-round, with seasonal swimming amenities typically available from late May through early September.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Several campgrounds with cabin accommodations provide fishing access without requiring a state license. At Basswood Country RV Resort, guests can fish in any of their five small lakes. "We watched kids get excited as they caught fish after fish," notes Shannon G., making it ideal for novice anglers.

Historical exploration: Learn about local heritage while staying in cabin accommodations. Near Watkins Mill State Park Campground, visitors can explore preserved historical structures. "If you like history, take a tour of the woolen mill part. Very cool," recommends Josh P. The park includes a 3.8-mile paved trail circling the lake that connects to the campground.

Themed weekend activities: Seasonal events enhance cabin stays at certain facilities. "Nice play area for kids as well as themed weekends with lots of activities planned that kids can do," mentions Robin R. about Basswood Resort. Activities often include arts and crafts, fishing contests, and outdoor movies on Saturday evenings during summer months.

What campers like

Swimming amenities: When temperatures rise, pool access becomes valuable for cabin guests. Worlds of Fun Village features pool facilities that remain open even when the adjacent amusement park is closed. "The campground pool is huge and fun for the kids on non park days," writes Jennifer H. Several locations offer swimming options from traditional pools to lake beaches.

Quiet countryside settings: Some cabin accommodations provide peaceful rural environments. Green Acres at Red Brick Farmhouse offers a serene setting away from urban noise. "Out in the country surrounded by corn fields. Owned by a lovely couple who reside on the property in their old farmhouse. Not far off of I70, but absolutely no road noise," notes Moe F.

Well-maintained facilities: Clean accommodations consistently receive positive feedback. "The facilities were clean, but older. The site we stayed in was large and level," reports Drew S. about their cabin stay at Basswood Country RV Resort. Regular maintenance and cleanliness standards vary between properties, with some emphasizing modern amenities while others focus on rustic charm.

What you should know

Airport proximity: Some cabin locations experience overhead air traffic. Basswood Country RV Resort sits near flight paths for Kansas City International Airport. "The campground is on the final approach for the airport, so you get to see a lot planes flying overhead, which you don't even notice cause they are quieter than they used to be be, and I think they shut down flights around 10pm," explains Brian A.

Seasonal limitations: Facilities and amenities may change with the seasons. "Stopped here on our way south for spring break. The amusement park was not open yet, so the campground area was relatively quiet and the price for full hookups was not bad," shares Deb M. about Worlds of Fun Village. Check with individual properties about off-season reductions in services.

Varied cabin standards: Quality and amenities differ significantly between properties. "The only real thing this has going for it is proximity to an amusement park. It's in the middle of a sketchy at best neighborhood and is extremely crowded in the months the park is open. Cabins are okay and meet basic needs but are not cleaned thoroughly," cautions Amanda M. about one location, while other properties receive praise for cleanliness and comfort.

Tips for camping with families

Look for dedicated kid activities: Lake Paradise Resort offers family-friendly amenities that enhance cabin stays. "We had a fun and relaxing time and loved the woodsy feel to it. The pool is renovated and very nice. It is very large, zero entry, up to mostly around 5 ft deep with a small area that was 9ft; there is a children's area with a sprinkler," reports Julie B.

Consider terrain for young explorers: Natural surroundings provide educational opportunities. "Kids found tons of frogs and snails to play with," mentions Brandi D. about Lake Paradise Resort. The varied landscapes near different cabin properties offer different wildlife viewing experiences depending on proximity to water features.

Evaluate site spacing: Privacy levels vary significantly between properties. "The RV sites were right on top of each other so would not great. Very little green space but had a lot of amenities," notes Ashley S. about one location. Families seeking more space should research specific cabin locations within each property to ensure adequate room for outdoor activities.

Tips from RVers

Site accessibility: When booking cabin accommodations, consider location within the property. "Row 1 (sites 1-20) is along a busy highway with semi truck noise 24 hours a day. I recommend either paying more for the pull-through (further from the road) or the back in sites 69-82 in row 3," advises John L. about Worlds of Fun Village cabins.

Off-peak advantages: Timing affects both availability and experience quality. "Ultimately, most of the amenities were closed by the time we arrived. The game room, the restaurant, and store were all closing or closed," reports Angela C. about an August visit to Basswood Country RV Resort. Researching operating hours for amenities helps set realistic expectations.

Security considerations: Some properties have variable security measures. "Security was disappointing, as there was no gate to the campground, nor a gate around it. So our campsite (site 2) that backed up to the road was 10 feet off the public sidewalk," notes John L. Visitors with valuable equipment should inquire about security features when booking cabin accommodations.
