This place is grand.... They have a huge open area for dirt bike's and four wheelers, just have to follow a few rules for safety. Nice little beach for you to walk on or even get your feet wet. We'll be back!!

Love It Here

I only rated this a 3 because of location. Its located next to odd Monsanto property but great vineyards. I know. Weird. Anyway great multi use if you enjoy hiking, mountain biking ATV and horses. My husband and I went to check out cave vineyard which is exactly what it sounds like and is not to be missed. The facilities at this campground were top notch and the the sites were huge! Missouri always does a great job and its a great place to camp. A few minutes drive from the popular st. Genevieve.

Great multi use campground

Nice park with a large camp sites with premiere off-road vehicle area. The park also features four lakes, two swimming beaches, equestrian trails, a hiking and bicycling trail and picnic sites, as well as two campgrounds capable of accommodating campers with ORV or horse trailers. 

Great place if you are boating or ORV.

Really nice pull through sites and the kids loved the beach.

Great for family

We have a pull behind travel trailer and pick up truck. Site 107 is where we stayed. Pull thru site,asphalt paved with gravel set up area, burn pit and picnic table. Bathrooms and shower house where nice and very clean! We did not have a ORV but did have battery Burromax minbikes. 10 yr old son had an amazing time ridingtoafs with no issues. Pet friendly. Great sewer dump station. Overall it was a very clean and friendly camping experience we will definitely go back even without having a dirtbike or 4 wheeler. Lots of fun!

ORV riding/Super nice

They were very picky about every single thing we set up. They required the tent had to be set up on the gravel but we had 2 large tents and they did not fit. Plus who wants to sleep on gravel. Had to buy wood but was only open a couple hours day. It was not a relaxing weekend.

Terrible state park!!! We will never visit this park again! The rules are absolutely ridiculous; you can't do ANYTHING! The staff and rangers are extremely rude. I wouldn't waste your time coming to this park.

Good place to ride your off road vehicles. Lots of trails and plenty of different types of trails to try out. Good clean campground for the hole family to enjoy. We found that there are some rules that didn’t make much sense. But overall they probably have there reasons. Anyway it’s kinda ￼expensive but still well worth the money. “Yes” we will return. 

Nice place 

I’ve camped at both campgrounds offered at St. Joe. In the fall of 2018, we stayed at CG#1, the spot has a nice gravel tent pad with border, picnic table, and a fire pit. The spot also offered a concrete section for a camper and cars. We had a pop-up and one tent and it was very spacious. A great spot with a minute walk to a very well kept shower house and bathroom. We really liked this spot at CG#1. 

CG#2 is located about 2-3 away from the main campground, this includes the shower house and main bathrooms. There is no shower house at CG#2.  I stayed at CG#2 about a week ago. Very similar in design to the sites at CG#1, it also offers amenities for those with horses. We had a spot with electric and no water, water is located close by the vault toilets. The site has a gravel parking area rather than the concrete one at CG#1. We had two tents, two cars, and five people, just as spacious. If you want more seclusion and don’t really care about being right next to the showers, I would suggest CG#2. 

Also, there was a trail located right by our spot at CG#2, it’s a good hike!!

Reviews on Campground #1 & #2

Nice place to ride utv’s, 4 wheelers, even your  jeeps. Holiday weekends are a bit crazy but overall it’s a pretty good place to ride. The rules are kinda strict. Things like, 
No bug lights, don’t even think about getting on there grass. Big NO NO! There’s more but that was the ones that got my attention. The picnic tables need sanded down or just placed. Can’t sit on them without getting splinters. We all got one. The restrooms are very clean (big plus) showers also. 

Family experience 

This is my second time staying here. It is a nice campground,  clean and level sites. It is noisy because they have a lot of off road trails so there is a lot of 4 wheeler traffic. The problem is the state has changed up the way they are doing reservations. When I arrived there was someone in our spot. I had to drive back to the office, they spent a few minutes on the radio with the campground host to get it straight.  Then to turn around I had go out to the main road and drive 4 to 5 miles to find a turn around.  A pain.

So, as one of Missouri’s atv parks, this can be a load one. But, you can camp at campground 2, and you’re dealing with a MUCH more classic camping scenario. The park is big enough you don’t hear the small engine vehicles over here.

The campground 2 sites are set up for horses, something I know almost nothing about, but they make the sites larger to accommodate equestrian needs and that’s nice. Hiking, MTB, and horse trails are separate from the atv trails. There’s even a nice 11 mile long paved trail that has some hills but will work for kids/strollers/etc. 

There are a number of more interesting parks in the area for what I think of as a true camping experience, but this is a good one if you’re also on the pokemon plan (gotta camp ‘em all).  If you like atv/utv/dirt bike stuff, man, campground one is for you, and it looks like a blast, read up on the lead mine tailing warnings.

Beautiful woodland setting with large concrete pads and nice grave picnic spot with fire pit. There’s a couple nice lakes with big beaches great swimming for the kids and you can rent a canoe or a kayak to paddle around on the lake. If you have an off-road vehicle there’s many trails for you to expire. ￼

Other than not having water at my current campsite, this place rocks. Campground number two has very large and relatively private sites. It feels like you’re definitely in the woods.

My girlfriend and I were going to backpack camp at St Joe. We learned that the dispersed campsites had been dismantled. That's a real bummer.
