      Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground

      Quiet, bathrooms lacking.

We had a pretty decent time at Taylorsville Lake. The spots were spacious, and very nice picnic tables. We did a trail which was nice and went down to a boat ramp to see the lake. You can also rent boats there as well. The bathrooms in my opinion needed a major cleaning. They were nice just not very clean. We most likely won’t visit here again but was nice to hit a Kentucky campground. I have found that camping in Kentucky is much cheaper than in Indiana. Definitely worth a checkout.

      Kentucky Horse Park Campground

Great Place to Relax and Unwind

Over 250 full hookup sites, great shade, beautiful trees, good size lots, however, some are on a grade making leveling difficult. Electric and primitive sites available. Great for equestrian trailers, convenient location off Interstate and right next to Kentucky Horse Park. Bathhouse, game room, laundry, camp store available. Numerous playgrounds and basketball courts for the kiddos. Swimming pool and for the avid hikers a trail that takes you to downtown Lexington.

      Kentucky Horse Park Campground

Nice Campground Right between Lexington and Georgetown

I'll preface this with the fact that I am a Lexington, KY Native and have always lived close to the Kentucky Horse Park and Kentucky Horse Park Campground, but have never stayed there until this weekend.

We stayed on Loop A in site #38.

First, site #38 was a great large and fairly level site with 50AMP hookups and Water. There were no sewer hook ups, but the park has 2 dump stations that accommodate 2 RV/Trailers being dumped at one time. The site had a large amount of space between ourselves and our neighbors and we had a lot of extra space behind out paved site that was grassy. A great area for the kids/pets to run around.

The park has 2 playgrounds (one was closed due to COVID and the sanitizing that would have to be done. The park said they didn't have the staff to sanitize the playground further from the office/store). There is a community pool (it was closed because it isn't memorial day yet and the staff is still trying to determine if it will open this season after being closed all of 2020 due to COVID).

You're able to bring your Golf Cart if you would like but you must get a permit from the campground office/store. They say there is a rule that no one under the age of 16 or anyone without a valid drivers license is allowed to drive the golf carts, but this is clearly not enforced, as my kids were nearly run over (more than once) by young kids speeding around on the gold carts.

The park is great for bike riding and you can travel just a short distance to get to the Legacy Trail (a 12 mile paved trail great from biking/running that runs from the horse park into downtown Lexington). It rained most of the day on Saturday while we were there but in the evening, we got to get the bikes out and go see the horses as they were grazing in the fields.

Right next door, you have the World Famous Kentucky Horse Park. Their trail rides are back open (Ages 7 an older $25.00 per person) and they also have their Pony ride for kids 12 and under ($5 a person) opened back up. You can go visit the different barns, go to the museums, etc.

Just 1 exit north on I75 you have  a Camping World, for all of your camping needs and then 1 exit after that you have a Walmart and Lowes for other things. Many food options as well.

There is a gas station just down Iron Works pike for all of your fuel and and snack needs. Attached to the gas station is also a liquor store.

Your smack in the middle of Georgetown and Lexington which both offer several family friendly Craft Beer Breweries/Taprooms, a lot of great local eating options and bars/nightlife options.

On Holidays now, at the Horse Park Campground, you have to have 5 day minimum stay, which can get a bit pricey.

All around though, great little campsite with easy access to I65/I64.

      Kentucky Horse Park Campground

      Clean and convenient

Clean bathrooms and sites, within easy walking distance to the Kentucky Horse Park. Pay attention to which site you pick- if you’re in c loop, it’s a long walk to the bathroom!

      A.J. Jolly Park & Campground

      AJ Jolly campground

Expensive for what it has to offer. At 48.00 bucks a night yes they do have WIFI in the RV section. They do have concrete pads. It’s a shame they are worthless they are to small to park the average RV on an are on the wrong side of most rigs unless you pull in 1/2 the sites the electric is on the wrong side. The sites are gravel and not level the rest rooms are new and nice. The horse stalks are very nice. If you have a large horse trailer type camper your screwed the sites are small so that only leaves you with the RV sites that are a few 100 feet away from the stables If you want to walk threw the drainage ditch add about 300 ft if you don’t want to walk threw the muck. It’s a shame when they paved the entry road they didn’t spend a little more. “Grant money “ or tax money an do it properly. The main play ground is extremely nice. About 1/3 Mile walk. They do have a small playground in the rv section. For horses again they have a nice setup for big RVs it Sux they have a dump station. Situated in between the entry road to the Fkatwood rv section and equestrian area The main lake is nice you can rent kayaks canoes. Or use your own boat. The boat ramp is nice the other end of the lake at the flat wood rv section. Is t really a lake it’s a back water shallow mud hole depending on the time of the year. Mosquitoes the size of jet fighters. Will rather eat you alive or carry you off. “Lol sorry could t resist “ it gets bad the park is clean and well maintained Except for the camp sites

      Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground

      Peaceful, horse and fisherman friendly

Felt like we were the only people without a horse or a fishing pole! Great water for kayaking and beautiful sunsets.

Lots of raccoons in the area, so make sure your food is secure. Some of the sites are equestrian only, but they may give leeway. We reserved our primitive site ahead of time.

      Good weekend trip from Louisville.

    Guide to Sadieville

Kentucky Horse Park Campground serves as a central location for those seeking horse-focused camping experiences near Sadieville, Kentucky. Located 20 minutes north of Lexington, this area offers visitors access to numerous equestrian trails and facilities. The region experiences moderate seasonal changes with autumn temperatures averaging 60-70°F during the day, ideal for horse-related activities and outdoor exploration.

    What to do

Trail riding adventures: At Kentucky Horse Park Campground, campers can access multiple riding options. "Taking the horses out here was a wonderful experience, it was great having so many different trails to go on in order to not only train the new horses how to trail ride, but also take the more experienced horses on tougher trails," notes Jill R.

Bourbon trail excursions: When staying at Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground, visitors can explore nearby bourbon country. "We did parts of the bourbon trail and just enjoyed our time at the campsite," shares Joe B., who used the park as a base for regional exploration.

Water activities: Fishing and boating opportunities abound at local lakes. "The lake is in view to each site," explains Bobby C. about A.J. Jolly Park & Campground. "The boat ramp is nice," with options to "rent kayaks canoes, or use your own boat."

    What campers like

Museum and education: Hideaway at Two Crane Lake provides a quiet alternative while maintaining proximity to Kentucky Horse Park's educational resources. One visitor to the Horse Park notes, "Right next-door to the Kentucky Horse Park, which is a must see. Very interesting museum and lots of barn with different types of horses in them to visit."

Spacious campsites: Campers at A.J. Jolly appreciate the layout and views. "Close to Cincinnati but each site is wooded and on lake front, lots to do!" reports Anna N. The concrete pads and picnic tables at many sites provide solid foundations for camping setups.

Clean facilities: The bathhouses at A.J. Jolly Park & Campground receive consistent praise. "The Bathhouse is super nice and clean," states Bobby C. Similarly, at Taylorsville Lake, campers note "nice bathhouse, which was very clean."

    What you should know

Site limitations: Not all horse campgrounds near Sadieville have ideal RV configurations. "Campgrounds were designed for pop up campers limited sites for RVs an Travel Trailers," warns Jeffrey about A.J. Jolly. "Electric was dependable water at most sites plenty of tent sites."

Distance to attractions: At some parks, attractions aren't always adjacent to camping areas. One Taylorsville camper mentions, "We also fished one evening on Taylorsville Lake, though it was a drive from our campsite, so wish the campsites were closer to the lake!"

Price considerations: Taylorsville Lake State Park can be more affordable than other options. When comparing to Kentucky Horse Park, one visitor noted, "It's definitely cheaper than a hotel though. If you're comfortable in a tent and don't want to shell out the cash for a hotel, this may be a good option for you."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple play areas keep children entertained. "The main playground is extremely nice," notes Jeffrey D. about A.J. Jolly Park. "They do have a small playground in the rv section."

Cultural heritage: Horse-focused camping offers educational opportunities. "Great place to take the family! A lot of Kentucky heritage here!" says David O. about the Kentucky Horse Park experience.

Group sites: Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground offers designated group camping. "We camped there in July for my son's birthday party. We were near the restroom facilities which were very clean. The camping area was recently mowed. Plenty of parking for guests and tents. We were on the group campsite #7," shares Heather K.

    Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges: Be prepared with leveling equipment at some parks. Bobby C. warns about A.J. Jolly: "The sites I'm at are on a hillside so think theatrical style site. None are level looking so you will need to know what your doing to level your rig."

Site selection wisdom: Choose carefully at Kentucky Horse Park. "Most of the sites were really big, and there was plenty of space and trees in between," shares one camper about the primitive camping area, though they caution some sites may not be ideal: "It was far from flat, and the space provided for the picnic table was pretty much unusable."

Hookup considerations: Check utility locations before selecting sites. "Water hook ups are on the opposite side of electrical on several sites," notes a camper about A.J. Jolly, highlighting the importance of planning your approach and setup.
