Upgraded RV & Cabins campground - very peaceful!

I stayed in one of the airbnb cabins this past summer and it was super comfortable. Everything I needed for a great stay. Awesome managers and such a peaceful surrounding. I know there are new pedestals and hookups for RVs and they have been working on the swimming pool for 2023. The A-frame cabin is being renovated for a new laundry facility and new showers/bathrooms too.

    Linn County Park

    Nice views!

Located in east central Kansas on 2600 acre Lake LaCygne (cooling reservoir for KCPL coal-fired power plant). No swimming or skiing allowed, only fishing boats. We stayed on site 112 in View Point Loop next to some permanent residents. There’s no stay limit here so some sites are very messy. Paved roads with gravel sites having W/E, mostly 30A but a few 50A like ours. Check in at the Marina to see which ones are available at this all first come first serve cg. They even have a few FHU sites but I imagine they are all taken by the residents. Nice dump station located in the back of the park along with a few rustic cabins. We enjoyed a waterfront site but there were many 30A sites available in a more wooded setting in several different loops. There are about 113 sites here.

    Gunn Park

    Gunn Park

Met our needs for a quick overnight while traveling through Kansas. The park itself was beautiful, felt safe, and had lots of people recreating and enjoying themselves. There are 10 FCFS sites plus a tenting area. Self-register at the camping area entrance and then hang your tag on your rearview mirror. There weren't any posts to hang your portion of the receipt tag to mark our site if you were to leave and head into town or something, however, so you'd have to find some other way to mark your area. Bathrooms were a bit nasty. There was also a door marked showers, but had a coded lock. Maybe the county building has the code if you were to call? The park and even the campground seems to be quite the cruise route--a lot of people driving through day and night, so sleep wasn't the best. Would stay again if needed.

Guide to Mound City

Cabin camping options near Mound City, Kansas center around Lake La Cygne and Crawford State Park, providing a range of overnight accommodations within eastern Kansas's forested terrain. These cabin sites typically operate year-round, though seasonal availability may vary during winter months when temperatures can drop below freezing. Outdoor enthusiasts find these cabin locations convenient bases for accessing the region's recreational resources.

What to do

Fishing at Lake La Cygne: The 2,600-acre cooling reservoir at Linn County Park offers dedicated fishing opportunities without competing with swimmers or water skiers. "Located in east central Kansas on 2600 acre Lake LaCygne (cooling reservoir for KCPL coal-fired power plant). No swimming or skiing allowed, only fishing boats," notes camper Bran P.

Wildlife viewing: Cabins provide comfortable shelter while exploring the natural surroundings. "Lots of trees lots of wildlife. Had deer walk right through the campground when we were there," reports Ryan R. about his stay at Linn County Park. The wooded settings around cabins create natural habitat corridors.

Restaurant dining: Guests staying at cabin accommodations can take advantage of on-site dining options at Oak Point Campground within Crawford State Park. "The food at the Marina is great," mentions Jim S., while other campers appreciate the convenience of having prepared food options nearby during longer cabin stays.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Cabin areas typically offer sufficient space between accommodations. "This place was easy, pretty and well appointed. Great site next to river, across from bath, laundry and showers. Quiet and easy access," shares Rhonda D. about her Oak Point Campground experience.

Pet-friendly policies: Many cabin options welcome pets, allowing families to bring their entire household. "I like that we can take our fur babies. It's quiet even if there are a lot of campers. People are polite and respectful," notes camper Bev about Lonesome Point Campground at Crawford State Park.

Swimming access: Some cabin locations provide water recreation beyond fishing. "Amazing swimming beach, modern bath house and great restaurant. A handful of small campgrounds surround the lake. Almost every spot is on the water," explains Stephanie D. regarding the amenities at Crawford State Park.

What you should know

Limited cell service: Cabins in more remote locations may have connectivity challenges. Ryan R. notes about Linn County Park: "If you have kids that go camping with you chances are your cell phones will not work so the kids probably will be very bored lol."

Bathroom proximity: While cabins offer shelter, facilities may require short walks. "Only drawback is restrooms are sometimes a short walk away," mentions Stephanie D. about accommodations at Crawford State Park.

Reservation requirements: Most cabin locations fill quickly during peak seasons. At Lil' Toledo Lodge, which offers cabins on 15,000 acres, advance booking is essential. "Perfect for a hunting adventure or corporate retreat. 15,000 Acres!" notes reviewer Ashley F.

Tips for camping with families

Bring entertainment: Due to limited connectivity at some cabin locations, pack offline activities for children. The combination of natural settings and limited technology access requires planning ahead with games, books, and outdoor equipment.

Check cleaning standards: Cabin cleanliness varies across properties. Bev notes about Lonesome Point Campground: "The area is always so clean. The camp hosts are great!" This consistent maintenance makes for more comfortable family stays.

Consider primitive options: Families seeking more seclusion can find cabins with fewer amenities. "Great primitive spot near the front with no electric but water within walking distance. Remote and lovely," describes Jeremy G. about his experience at Lonesome Point Campground.

Tips from RVers

Extended-stay considerations: Some cabin and RV campgrounds permit longer residency periods. "We stayed on site 112 in View Point Loop next to some permanent residents. There's no stay limit here so some sites are very messy," advises Bran P. about Crossroads RVs and Cabins.

Utility hookup availability: RVers converting to cabin stays should verify what utilities are provided. "I know there are new pedestals and hookups for RVs and they have been working on the swimming pool for 2023. The A-frame cabin is being renovated for a new laundry facility and new showers/bathrooms too," shares Ryan H. about infrastructure improvements at Crossroads RVs and Cabins.

Dump station access: For travelers combining RV and cabin stays, note dump station locations. "Nice dump station located in the back of the park along with a few rustic cabins," mentions Bran P. regarding Linn County Park facilities.
