Camp John Schultz is located in Yellow River State Forest near the northeastern part of Iowa. The terrain consists of rolling hills and dense forest areas, providing a natural setting for camping. Temperatures range from lows in the 20s Fahrenheit during winter to highs in the 80s during summer, and nearby attractions include the Yellow River and Effigy Mounds National Monument.

You may hear a cow moo at the hike-in sites in Camp John Shultz but you’ll not likely hear people. If you do have to share the camp, there are five segregated campsites that are well spaced and feel private. Sites range from partial shade to full shade and all but two have fire rings.

Awesome campground, if you require electric bring a generator.  Water is available but needs to be carried in.  we loved the lack of cell phone reception!

Hiked into this Camp that includes 5 primitive sites: fire rings and benches. Lush dense forest with intermediate hiking including typical summer insects.  Leave No Trace ethics include: minimizes fire impacts by gathering only dead, down, wood. Sounded by nature atop of   hill hike near Fire tower ( only fire tower in Iowa), cell reception is found up here.
