Buffalo Ridge Campground, near Brown County State Park, is a fantastic spot for those looking to immerse themselves in nature while enjoying some modern conveniences. The campground offers a mix of tent and RV sites, with many shaded areas that provide a nice break from the sun.

Nicknamed the "Little Smokies" because of the area's resemblance to the Great Smoky Mountains, Brown County encompasses nearly 16,000 acres of rugged hills, ridges and fogshrouded ravines. Glaciers from the most recent ice ages stopped short of the "hills o'Brown," but their meltwaters helped create the narrow ridges, steep slopes and deep gullies of Brown County State Park. Indiana's largest park is a traditional fall color hot spot, with nearly 20 miles of tree-lined roads and many scenic vistas overlooking miles of uninterrupted forestland.

**Campground Check-in/Check-out times are 2 PM Mondays through Saturdays and 5 PM on Sundays and Holidays.**   
  
**Winter Camping Information (early November through late March):** Brown County State Park offers winter camping in some of our campgrounds as noted below. Reservations accepted year round. Please check with the Park Office for more detailed information on the dates campgrounds switch from Summer to Winter Season (and back) as these will change each year.

The Best Camping Near Nashville, Indiana

It’s a nice big state park with water and trails and rolling hills. In the fall it’s almost as good as New England (almost). The facilities are very nice for a state park, including sports courts, pool, fire tower, nature center, hot clean showers, watercraft rentals. There are at least five different areas to stay plus a big modern hotel/lodge. The rangers gave us some great recommendations for dinner in the nearby town too. 


Large state park 

I make multiple visits here every year, mainly for the mountain bike trails.  There are almost 30 miles of trails inside the park with new trails every year for the past 3+ years.  Connectivity to Yellowwood and Hoosier National Forest is also available for those adventurous individuals with lots of gas in the bike tank.  From beginner to expert, some trail for everyone at this location.  Lots tend to be smaller in size with most activity happening up front in Buffalo Ridge, close to general store, water and trails.  For more secluded and wooded setting, chose Taylor Ridge (careful with larger RV's)  Typical Indiana campground with basic comfort stations.  Negatives include no beaches or water sports for such a large park, no WIFI (unplug and enjoy!) and lack of shade on up front sites.  Close proximity to antique and quaint town of Nashville with many shops and a few restaurants.  Definitely try Big Woods Pizza and Quaff-On Brewery!  Lots of hiking and scenic overlooks!  One of my Indiana favs!

Very nice and beautiful campgrounds!!!

I was very impressed with how clean and how well maintained the campground was. The mountainbike trails are fantastic, something for every skill level. Nashville is just down the road and has a lot of small shops to go through and a micro brew/distillery that has good beer and food.

Beautiful campground, nice clean bathrooms/showers. 

We took our travel trailer on its maiden voyage to Brown County over Easter weekend.  Even though it rained most of the time we really enjoyed ourselves.    The bathrooms were clean, showers were hot and all the staff very friendly.  We were able to see and do plenty of things with our 6 year old. He was extremely excited to be able to ride a horse.   We will be back for sure!  Nearby Nashville was a lot of fun as well!


Weekend Escape 

This campground is a must visit in Indiana. The views all around Brown County are breaktaking. While were were there we rode on a trail ride at the saddle barn. The horses were well trained and willing to let people ride them. We also went to a Raptor show that was put on at the nature center where we got to look at some interesting raptors.

Amazing Views!

This park is phenomenal! With 3 Campgrounds to choose from you can’t go wrong! Amazing staff, great amenities, well kept and clean. There’s a lodge, restaurant, playgrounds, store, pit toilets, bath houses, swimming pool (fee required). Electric hookups with a dump station, and water to fill your tanks.  The only drawbacks were not being able to access the new Water Park at the lodge. If you stay at lodge or in cabins you may use.  Also, there is an access fee, if you’re camping it’s only paid once. 

Simply Divine 

This is a beautiful State Park situated in the rolling hills of southern Indiana. The park offers year around camping with reduced services in the winter months (they do have a heated bath house in the off season). Seasonal outdoor pool, hiking trails, mountain bike trails, Abe Martin Lodge with a year around indoor pool, lakes, naturalist service, nature center and horse camping/trails. The park is in close proximity to the artist village of Nashville, shopping, good dining and groceries. Autumn is the heavy tourist season with the changing of the leaves...breathtaking vistas from the parks elevated vantage points! Large rigs must access the park through the West entrance due to a low clearance covered bridge at the North entrance.

“In the heart of beautiful Brown County”

This is by far my favorite campground. It is nestled back in the woods of Brown County and is absolutely gorgeous, especially in the fall. It is very quiet. If you can, try and get a spot towards the front of the campground as the back has sites that are pretty steep. 

Favorite Campground 

Huge state park, with beautiful camping, hiking and mountain biking. Sites are large, in the woods and were awesome. Beware, there are rattle snakes. We saw a copperhead and a timber ridge rattle snake. One of the best camp experiences we have had.

Amazing sites on the ridge

Wonderful park, easily mistaken for Appalachia!  Variable site options for all sizes of vehicles and modes of camping.  Well-staffed and well-maintained.  Easy access from the Interstate south of Indianapolis and worth the diversion for travel camping (as we did); certainly worth it for a regional destination.  Toilets and bathhouses of varying age and quality, though the ones we experienced were excellent!  Camping is on a ridge or plateau with trails and roads descending from campground levels.  There are many activities and even paid horse guides/rides.  The mountain biking is excellent, with purpose built trails for beginner to expert (flow, berms, rollers, jumps...).  **The north entrance is through a covered bridge with a 9 foot clearance and 3 ton limit!  Otherwise, use the easily accessible west entrance, just a few miles "around the corner."**

Mountain-like Park in Southern Indiana

Camped here with some friends and really enjoyed it.  Beautiful area with nice paths and trails to hike.   

Very nice shower facility and bathroom.  The showers are nicer than what we have seen, and very private with a nice area and plenty of room.  

Employees at the camp store were super helpful and polite.  Lots of options and things to purchase.  Really well stocked camp store.  They also have nice easy access paved sites for those that need. We will definitely be back to this campground, really enjoyed our stay here.  

Gorgeous views

We stayed in the Buffalo Ridge loop on a Tuesday night in early Dec. The area is beautiful and the campground was mostly empty. We stayed in site 94 which is completely set apart from the other sites. The site was very level and easy to back into. There is a trail right behind the site - great if you want easy access to a hike, but may be annoying if other people walk through your site to get to the trail. There is a VERY clean toilet right across from this site. Would definitely stay here again! Site 93 was also nice - neighbors only on one side (which would be blocked from fire pit area if you’re driving an RV). 


Beautiful Campground

This was the second and third time we stayed at Brown County. This time we stayed in Buffalo Loop sites 95 and 93. First - about site 95. We have a 21’ RV/van and we just barely fit in the site - take their length limits seriously. This site only has 20 amp power, so make sure you have an adapter if you need 30/50 hookups. The site is NOT level. Usually with our van we don’t need to worry, but in this site we used our leveling ramps and probably could have used more. Looking at the other sites on this side of the loop, they all look like they would need leveling if you’re in an RV. Site 93 is more level and is private (RV/car will block only neighbor). This campground has very convenient dump stations right by the loop.

Love this park! We have gone there many times when we wanted to visit the fair and Brown County . Really nice campsites to choose from and the sites are beautiful. It also has nice hiking, horse and mountain bike trails.

Gorgeous park with plenty to do

This is one of our favorite state parks in Indiana. The camp grounds are clean and for the most part quiet. There is easy access to the park.  Overall great experience!

Great park

Brown County State Park is  Indiana's biggest and, in my opinion,  most beautiful park. There are lots of amenities that can suit any age of visitor.  There are several vistas that overlook the rolling hills of southern Indiana that would rival any even the great Smoky Mountains.
However,  camping at Brown County has its challenges.  Most sites are located along the main thoroughfare of the campground and offer little privacy. Traffic can be a distraction if you are looking for a peaceful night around the campfire.  
Nonetheless,  Brown County's large trail system,  both hiking and mountain biking, can take adventurers over ridgelines,  through ravines,  and can connect all of the vistas overlooks.
Overall,  this Indiana gem was one of my most memorable experiences today, and 30 years ago when my wife and I were just dating.  

Not Quite Peak Season 

Two nights in a SylvanGo pop up. Surrounded by larger RVs but the woods surrounding the Buffalo Ridge campground is very peaceful.  Lots of hiking trails.  Pay attention to your campsite for slope and camper assessibility.

Be sure to check pad size. Several sites have 20' or so. 

Nice campground well maintained. 

As it’s the largest state park in Indiana there is a multitude of things to do. Pool, hiking trails, two small lakes. Bath houses are nice. Electric only. Water fill stations located throughout. Site 001 is level side to side slight downhill run on asphalt. Right next to campground check in and extra vehicle parking. One of the playgrounds is right off the site. 

Large park

Stayed at site 14 in buffalo ridge. Site was full shade, it was 5 3/4 inches down in back and 3 1/2 inches down on passenger side. This site was nice except be aware if you have kids that you are on a ledge and a trail goes down and gets super steep and lots of wildlife in there!! Also we had a couple days of rain and I will have to be doing some sap removal of my camper! It dropped walnuts all over my camper in the wind so it sounded like hail when the wind picked up. Plenty of things to do in the park and nearby. We loved the horseback riding and the town of Nashville.
