Great spot staying in my truck

It's easy to get too. I haven't explored all the spots around the water since I got here at sunset but it's really cool and super close to the water. It looks like most spots aren't more than a parking spot but that works for me. The surrounding cliffs and water are both gorgeous.

Very dangerous roads

No idea how any vehicle could get to the river… there is an upper area to park up in but too hot. The dirt road to the supposed BLM camping area also very rugged! Disappointing

Quiet dispersed camp spot

We were able to park our truck and camper at an upper spot. The first part of the road down to the beach was very rocky and lots of ruts, but once past that the road is smooth. We didn’t take our trailer down there, but were able to drive our Nissan Frontier down and enjoy the river. Was nice to hang by the water with the dog! No shade at upper sites, but there was shade down at some lower sites by the river.

Great spot

Really good spot but high clearance needed to get to the bottom. At the top there’s a good spot as well without needing 4x4.

Good vibes

This campground was super easy to find and offered great areas for camping. Don’t drive an Audi A3, I don’t recommend it! The roads are quite rough, a 4wd vehicle is needed.

Great spot down by Snake river

Dirt road (a little rough in some spots) down to the river’s edge. We had a great experience here. Quiet, nearly no other people. Being on the river was nice. Might be one of my best experiences finding a spot on Dyrt.

Amazing views

Was the only one in the entire area. I don't think 4wd is necessary but definitely need a high clearance vehicle. Bugs are pretty bad.

So. Many. Flies.

The farm road out has a small patch of very rough road. It was just passable in my non-lifted Sprinter. There is a smallish open area to camp at the top, it’s very exposed and you will have approximately 15 flies in your car in 90 seconds. The road down to the water is beyond tore up- I don’t know how anyone makes it down. The water is very green/slimy, I had my dog jump in but I wouldn’t dunk myself. We didn’t stay.

Gorgeous but beware washed out roads

Farm road to BLM awash with loads of potholes but can be navigated cautiously. Once at the Cauldron, do not go down to the river unless you have 4WD. Whilst you can get down, recent rains mean the doable steep climb back out is riddled with massive dips and rocks. While I did get out in a 2WD (small) van with a lift, it took a few tries and a kindly fellow camper who could watch and help me troubleshoot a doable path. Great hiking all around the Snake River offers serenity with dramatic rock formations and vegetation. Beautiful migration of myriad geese at night. Campers have left their marks in disappointing ways, so please pack out what you pack in. Sheriff came by around sunset—due to hazardous road and shady business on weekends.

Beautiful and private but watch out for the flys

This site was a one night stop but I would’ve stayed a bit longer if I could’ve it was quiet with some good views of the Snake river and the surrounding canyon walls. The one downside is there is a large amount of flys at this site.

Great campground, not great road

Beautiful and peaceful, right on the river's edge. Lots to explore. No amenities so be prepared for that. Great place if the road in wasn't so stetchy. Barely made it out with 2wd E250 van. 4wd would probably be fine, just be aware it's a bumpy ride either way! If you come in August, bring something for the flies (they're pretty bad). ✌️

STUNNING

One moment you are driving through farmland. The next moment a canyon appears out of nowhere. There is a beach there are waterfalls and the views are absolutely amazing. This is a hidden jem a must see… totally dispersed camping there is nothing here, but peace and beauty. There is one site that has a picnic table. Other than that it’s just amazing. The water falls are absolutely spectacular! You can park on a beach or higher up… every site is amazing. You need to walk up the rocks and follow the path to the water falls. It is an easy walk on the path or you can climb some rocks. It is a short walk to see the most amazing lava rock formations and the canyon

Peaceful spot with some waterfall swimming

Serene camping away from most road noise and good spacing from other campers. We visited in early August and the river was low enough that we camped out on the beach. A few parts of the road were dicey, especially pulling our 16' trailer. But swimming in the pools near the waterfall made the trek so worth it.

Only one spot that I saw with a picnic table. Dry camping, bring fresh water and toilet paper. Great fishing, caught at least 4 fish a day while camping (small bass, there were several bigger fish but I didn’t have the right lures)

Amazing location!

This place is beautiful! We arrived on a Monday morning around 9am. Before driving down the hill we got out and walked it to make sure we could make it. We’re driving a one ton GMC with Artic Fox truck camper. We made it down no problem. We stayed for 2 nights and only one night was there another camper who decided to stay up high and not make the drive down. We few cars came and went. But what surprised me the most, is that nobody who drove down, went to see the waterfall which is probably the best part! So, if you visit, find a trail anywhere to the right of the Cauldron Linn sign and follow it. There are many and most of them lead to the waterfalls eventually. My husband was nervous about the drive out but we made it out with no issues!

Pretty Area - Felt Uneasy

In the summer when the area is busier I think we would have love this more. Happy we were able to find free camping in this area. It’s a recreation area, so when we arrived we saw some in the distance fishing and another person bike riding. We were the only ones camping, and there was some unknown activities of others who came and went that we were unsure of. We would have felt better if someone else was camping somewhere. Nothing happened though and it was a cool spot. Definitely think when other campers are around this would be a great spot!

Beautiful Area! Sketchy Roads

This is a very beautiful area to camp out in. Not far off the river with places to drive right up to the edge of the water (with the right vehicle). Wildlife was very active; lots of mosquitoes and bats at night. Dirt road leading to the area has some pretty rough spots and some washboarding, but it’s all doable. The road that actually takes you down into the canyon has a steep sharp downhill turn with large rocks, depressions, and soft silt. I managed to get down in my Ford Transit Connect (pretty sketchy), but I had to try a couple times before I could make it back up and out the next day. So BE AWARE: gravity can probably help you down without getting stuck, but remember that you will have to get back up, and if your vehicle is 2wd and particularly heavy or low or is bad with hills, it may not be a breeze. (Maybe I’m just being dramatic though lol) I probably won’t risk it again, the stress was too much for my poor nerves.

Beautiful Hidden Gem

It is literally hidden out in the hay and corn fields. The road down into the canyon is ok for small trailers, vans, trucks. The water was out so the bank was a dusty desert and at the waters edge was a thick swampy mess with gross stinky mud foam…. So swimming was out of the question. We found a pull in area under a cluster of trees that was perfectly serene. Will definitely go back. Large black beetles are bad there and bugs as expected. Nothing to cause a big issue, we brought a bug zapper and net enclosed canopy!

Didn’t end up staying

We were really excited to stay here. The water and area is beautiful. There are 2 great shady spots right on the water. Unfortunately it looks like 2 guys are living down there and let’s say they don’t look like the friendliest for a couple of reasons. My boyfriend and I immediately got a bad vibe and decided it was best not to stay.

Awesome sites!! Had a blast with some people I met , I stayed at the first site at the top because I’m 2w drive sedan, but I think it COULD be achieved if needed. Would recommend 4wd to the bottom; but this is a beautiful place, there’s some waterfalls to check out and the views are great, not a lot of privacy, pack in pack out.

A little bit of everything

Coordinates are accurate to location. I would not recommend for RV campers as much as I would for tent or van campers. The road was a little steep but we found a tree cave spot as mentioned in one of the previous comments. We arrived around 6pm and were the only ones there. The river was beautiful so we took a dip in the water. There is also a good size rapid. We saw a rabbit, quail, mouse, and a ferret. It did get busy after 8pm but overall great place to camp.

Perfect Spot

The dirt road getting down to the river wasn’t bad, but larger vehicles might have a little trouble. I saw an RV parked at the top. I found a cool spot underneath trees like a little cave towards the end of the road. There was a campfire ring and it was shaded and private. The river is really pretty and there’s a little waterfall to see. The area was really beautiful and I felt like I was the only person there.
