Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Pearl City, HI

Five pet-friendly campgrounds surround Pearl City, Hawaii, providing oceanfront tent camping, RV sites, cabins, and glamping options for visitors traveling with dogs. Sand Island State Recreation Area in Honolulu offers drive-in sites where pets are permitted with drinking water, electric hookups, showers, and toilet facilities for tent and RV campers. Bellows Field Beach Park in Waimanalo and Camp Mokuleia both allow pets at their beach-adjacent campsites. Kahana Campground at Ahupuaʻa ʻO Kahana State Park features picnic tables at each campsite with enough space for multiple tents. The campground is clean with decent bathrooms, though they require crossing the main road from the beach camping area.

Beachfront sites at these campgrounds provide immediate ocean access where pets can enjoy the shoreline. Kahana Bay's protected waters remain fairly flat and calm most of the year, making them suitable for dogs that enjoy swimming. Bellows Air Force Station, restricted to military ID holders, offers additional pet-friendly accommodations including small, clean cabins near the beach, though reservations must be made approximately a year in advance. Camping at Sand Island is less busy than other Oahu locations as the area receives fewer visitors, providing a quieter experience for campers with pets. While close to the beach, many sites are situated near roadways, so pets should be kept secured. The beaches aren't always the nicest for swimming, but they work well for pets and small children needing calmer waters.

    Oahu camping

Camping in hawaii is special no matter the time and place. Bellows has been a favorite because the waves are perfect for buggie boarding and the beach is peaceful. This spot has plenty of trees to set up a slack line and hammock to relax and play.

    Mālaekahana State Recreation Area

    Remote, relaxing

Malaekahana State Recreation Campground & Malaekahana Beach Campground are 2 separate campgrounds run by 2 different “owners” on the Island of Oahu-Hawaii. They are only a few miles apart.

The State Campground is State run requiring a permit (on line). No fires, no pets, tent camping. Reasonable pricing.

Malaekahana Beach Campground is privately owned. Tents sites are $9.00 per person per night with maximums based on site size. They also have Rustic cabins with one queen bed and a bunk. ($50+). No electric or water. Water nearby. Then they have the larger cabins with 2 queen beds, flush toilet and electric for approx $120. a night. All sites have fire rings and a picnic table. No pets.Outdoor showers and flush toilets various locations around campground. Very dark at night-bring flashlights, lanterns. Employees there have always been very friendly and helpful. Gate locked 7p-7a. Must call for assistance if emergency arises or you’re out late! I’ve camped here many times and love having the beach so close! Last time I camped there was in Feb. There was a big storm that Sat & Sun and on Monday-the campers were all out trying to clean up the beach!

    Bellows Air Force Station

    Crowded Clamping

Date of stay: September 19 Campsite: #16

This area is available to DoD ID card holders only.

Tent campsites are way too close together! Every 2 sites should be combined to make 1. Ocean view sites are very sandy and if you are near the restroom, be prepared for beach goers to walk right through your site to use the toilet...! (Side note, that’s my biggest pet peeve!!)

Tons of amenities here though, putt-putt, driving range, bar w/ pool table, foose, beach equipment rental, paint ball, small bouldering area!

    Bellows Field Beach Park

NO PETS (DOGS) ALLOWED ON ANY HAWAII STATE CAMPGROUNDS!

This website is in error. There are no dogs allowed on ANY Hawaii State Campground!!! Don't know if you know this or not. So if you have a dog in Hawaii, you cannot bring your loved one(s) camping anywhere. Too bad.

    Camp Mokuleia

Amazing spot if surfing and climbing!

This campground is very close to the highest concentration of rock climbs in all of Hawaii! The Mokule'ia wall has over 60 climbs ranging from beginner to expert and includes trad, sport, and toprope routes. One of the other things we loved about this site is the proximity to Ka'ena Point! It feels like you're standing out in the ocean without anything around it's such a small point! One of favorite places we hung out at during our trip to Hawaii

Kahana Campground — Ahupuaʻa ʻO Kahana State Park

Green mountains, blue sea, amazing camping

Every camp site is perfect, all close to the water (and the car) and with beautiful views. Like lots of Hawaii, we just kept our swimsuits on all the time while visiting. Lots of bugs, make sure your tent's bug screen is intact and bring spray for hiking/picnicking. Make sure to take in the cultural aspects of this park too. One accessible site. Lots of nearby trails or walk on the beaches. Get up early for sunrise!

Kahana Campground — Ahupuaʻa ʻO Kahana State Park

Good place to Luau and hike some trails

There is a beach camping spot nearby here and I will add it to the map once I get the info from my friend in Hawaii! It's definitely the best place to camp in the area but this is the best place to relax for a bit! A good close trail is the Crouching Tiger trail which is pretty steep and muddy so bring good hiking boots!

    Mālaekahana State Recreation Area

    Incredible Beach

We lived in nearby Hauula Oahu for five years and this campsite was one of our favorites. The campsite is on Malaekahana Beach one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii. The site is just north of Laie on Kamehameha Highway. The campground was recently put under new management and has invested in new cabins and facilities. You may not find a better site on Oahu. You will need to make a reservations for the cabins which are very popular with local residents. You can find supplies in nearby Laie or Kahuku. The cabins are very basic with screen and bunk bed setups. The site has an automatic gate for security and helpful resident staff. You can ride horses across the highway. The camp store has some basic items as well. This is a great choice for students or other visitors looking for a low cost option in a beautiful location.

Guide to Pearl City

Pearl City, Hawaii pet-friendly campgrounds allow campers to experience the unique coastal climate where average temperatures range between 70-85°F year-round. The campgrounds sit at sea level, with most offering direct shoreline access where the calm protected waters of Kahana Bay remain flat throughout most seasons. Camping regulations require permits at most locations with specific check-in times.

What to Do

Beach activities for dogs: At Camp Mokuleia, the water remains "pretty mellow (at least during the summer) and is great for stand up paddling" with your dog alongside. Located on the northwestern tip of Oahu, you'll regularly see "parachuters appearing in the sky" from the skydiving company across the street.

Hiking with pets: The Kahana Campground area features several dog-friendly trails. As one camper notes, "There are a few trails in the state park that are family friendly and well maintained." The Crouching Lion trail provides steep elevation gains with panoramic views of Kahana Bay.

Water activities: Many sites allow dogs to join water recreation. One camper at Kahana mentioned, "They have volleyball, tubing, rope swings, snorkeling, just to name a few." The protected waters make it ideal for dogs who enjoy swimming without strong currents.

What You Should Know

Military restrictions: Bellows Field Beach Park has two separate areas - one for civilians and one for military personnel. "There is actually both a civilian and military campground. The civilian side is for the true camping enthusiast. The military side has both campgrounds and cabins, with a mini golf course and a mini-mart."

Bathroom locations: At some campgrounds, facilities may require crossing roads. At Kahana, "the bathrooms are across the main road, but were nice. The campsites are very close to the main road, so you hear cars at all hours."

Tips for Camping with Families

Beginner-friendly waters: Dog-friendly beaches near Pearl City often feature calmer waters. One camper at Sand Island noted, "The beach isn't the nicest but it's good for little kids and there's a nice surf break if the swell is in." This makes these locations ideal for both pets and children.

Activity options: Camp Mokuleia offers various family activities. "They have a ropes course and it is across the street from a skydiving place." The camp is "set up for anything from large groups (50+) to small families" with options to rent cabins or pitch tents.

Tips for RVers

Hookup availability: Limited electrical and water hookups exist at pet-friendly campgrounds. Sand Island State Recreation Area offers "drinking-water, electric-hookups, sanitary-dump, showers, toilets, trash" making it one of the more RV-friendly options near Pearl City.

Space constraints: Most dog-friendly campgrounds have limited RV parking. Sand Island is "an industrial place so there's not many stores nearby but it's a pretty unique park with lots of space to hangout" which makes it more accommodating for larger vehicles.
