Go to Camping near Atl.

This is our go to campground near Atlanta, GA. It's a big place so things can get crowded depending on the season. Lots of the sites are right on the water & the ones more inland have power & serval are arranged perfectly for groups. Bathrooms are decent, not the best, not the worst.

Spacious and beautiful

We had a great time when we stayed here in October. The campsites were very spacious in our area (we had #90) and it was close to the bathrooms and playground. We came with children and enjoyed the walk down to the lake, as well as hiking trails. There was plenty to do, and the sites were big enough for two tents and a giant canopy over the picnic table for the rains. It rained a great deal one night, and the site did not flood. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful Park

Campground was very pretty and well spaced. Bathrooms could have been cleaner. The spot we reserved(69) was not a good spot for a camper, but would’ve been great for a tent only. It was narrow and on a steep hill.

Better for tents

Heavily wooded sites that are not well maintained. Very narrow roads in the campground with lots of pot holes. Not the easiest state park to pull a travel trailer in. Sites were very narrow.

Guaranteed Satisfaction

Normally I go camping with friends and don’t do the planning myself. This was easy to plan with tons of great spots all with a view, access to the lake and accommodating everyone’s camping needs/wants. Before we arrived someone called to ask if we had parking pass or if we needed any firewood. All very helpful and great with any questions we had or direction info. We were at site 47. Site was quiet, clean, safe and everyone was very respectful. We tent camped, put hammocks up, grilled and spent the day on our paddle boards the following day. Some nice folks helped us start our fire the first night! Bring lighter fluid if the convenience mood strikes you ;). I’ll be back soon. 😊

Can’t wait to go back!!

The campsite was so clean and super convenient to the water. The bathrooms were clean and well taken care of! The campsites were very spacious. Perfect for two big tents and two vehicles. The coves are pretty busy so be aware of the boaters. It’s super easy to get a kayak in and out from your campsite area! Such a beautiful hike definitely kid friendly! Our children’s ages range from 2 to 5 and they all had a blast! Not too far from town if you forget some thing and has a beautiful Public Beach and playground! We can’t wait to go back! I will say we definitely lucked up with our campsite placement!

Nice Campground / Great Lake Access

We camped here back in the early summer. It was our first outing in the new RV. Sites were great. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We hiked, kayaked and hammocked. It was a great weekend. Convenient location. Our site was on the lake side and while nice, the was a ton of boat noise. Kinda felt like the interstate was just outside our window.

Florida families playing in North Georgia

When things got hot in florida we migrated north to Red Top Mountain State Park. We stayed in cabin 7 which had a wonderful setup near other cabins between which a the kids played together. Plenty of water toys to rent on lake Allatoona or just find a makeshift beach head by walking down the hillside to the water and watching the boats go by as you play in the waves.

First time visiting & it won’t be our last

We’ve been wanting to camp here for a while, but every time we decided to go, it’s been all booked up.... that might have been our fault though, because we like to plan last min trips. 🙂 This time we actually planned it out a few weeks in advance and got a nice spot.

I really liked the booking process, because it shows you exactly what spot is available and it even shows you a pic of the site you’ll be getting. Our site was only $35 a night + a $5 parking pass.

The campground has a lot to offer! It has a boat access point, fishing, walking and biking trails, a small putt putt course, playground area for the kids and best of all it’s pet friendly! I can’t go without saying the employees are so friendly and helpful!

Campsite wise, it has electric, water, cable, a huge picnic table & a grill/fire pit. The only negative was it wasn’t a full hookup. 😔Something else that I really loved was all of the huge natural rocks located all throughout the campground. Each campsite seemed to have their own collection of rocks and it really added to the experience. Another plus is that it has a dump station right at the exit, so on your way out you can take care of your last minute steps to finish up your camping experience. 😁

If you’re in the area I would highly recommend this campground! You can’t go wrong!

Amazing!!!

This was our first camping trip (in a tent) that we have ever taken, and Red Top delivered. It was a beautiful location off the lake, great weather, and lots of trails to take. A great place to make memories. It was easy to find, easy access, and plenty of amendities. The bath house was a little rough, but with some cleaning up and renovations, I think it would be perfect. I definitely recommend any first timers to check this place out! Red Top topped our first adventure!

It is always well taken care of, and the sites have easy access to the lake which is nice for sunrise, sunset and relaxing in a hammock. The sites are clean and easy to find, and the campground is only accessible with an access code in the evenings.

Amazing lake views

Red Top Mountain is a nice place, situated right on the lake, with lots of hiking trails, there’s plenty to do, and the scenery is beautiful. The campground is gated, so if you will be arriving late, you’ll need to call and get a code. Also, they require a two night minimum on the weekends when you book online, however if a site is only open for one night, you can call the park directly and they will book it for you.

The campground is mountainous and wooded, and the sites are very spacious. Many of the sites have lake views, and several are lake front, some you can even drop in a kayak. The campground has lots of large rocks throughout, just like the terrain of the area. We stayed on site #56, and had a great view of the lake. The tent pad in that one was huge, so we had way more space than we even needed.

My only complaint was the bathhouse was in desperate need of a major renovation. Cracked tiles, broken door handles, rotting wood on the stall doors, etc.

Plenty of Waterfront View Options

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Red Top Mountain State Park. The campground itself is spread out with large sites. There are plenty of options for waterfront sites and most all sites are shaded with canopy cover. Our site specifically that we chose 56, was perfect for our roof top tent. We parked on a flat pad below a small staircase up to a tent pad surrounded by large boulders and equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Firewood laying around was abundant. My only complaint about this campground were the comfort station showers. If you don’t need or desire to shower I would have zero hesitation sending anyone to this campground. However if you desire or need to shower as my wife and I do, be warned they are disgusting. They are probably the worst I have experienced anywhere as far as cleanliness. They serve their purpose as far as sufficient water pressure and hot water but outside of that, they are far from pleasant.

Beautiful surroundings, very close neighbors

We stayed in a campsite next to the lake, half the campsites are next to the lake, but that means you’ll be listening to loud boat engines and boaters screaming and blaring party music all day. Wish I knew this when I reserved the site. Campsite were a bit small, but well maintained with picnic table and fire ring. Lots of fireflies in the evening, fun to watch! Until your neighbor shines their headlights directly at your campsite every time they turn on their vehicle due to the way the campsites are placed... could be better designed, or have some kind of barrier since the sites are so close together.

Great camping in the woods

Red Top Mountain SP is a great place to get away into the Woods. The park is just north of Atlanta, so it gets crowded in summer and fall, so reservations are needed. There is one loop of pull-through sites for large RVs, and a loop along the lake with back in sites. There are also some walk in sites along the lake The sites are mostly level, with water and electric. You can get internet for an additional fee. The park has hiking, boat ramps, swimming beach, fishing and mini-golf. Many years ago there was an iron smelter at the site, and in the fall they occasionally have an “iron pour” so visitors can see them smelt iron.
