We stayed at site 125 with a full view of the lake. We could watch the sunset & the sunrise each day and it was incredible. There is plenty of tree cover & wilderness surrounding you. Bath houses were decent (albeit a little outdated). Our spot had a pretty bad ant infestation & they ended up getting into our trailer, which I had to scour with spray, etc. But what can you do? Just bring some supplies in case. What we really liked about this campground is how natural the surroundings are. You're really immersed in the wooded area with a view of the beautiful lake & the sounds of birdsong, etc. Good campground for bikes as things are spread out (swimming beach, bathhouses). We would certainly come back!
Our site was excellent. Weather was perfect. We camped 6 days. Only negative is you can't get weekends at this campground. We wanted to stay longer but the COE website says all were booked. We will stay again
We camped here via tent camping, we really enjoyed our stay beautiful views and showers at site were decent getting ready to go view the beach side! But definitely a spot I’d revisit!
This was a really nice campground with great waterfront sites. Bathrooms were clean although not close to sites. Railroad tracks across the lake with about 17 trains per day if you don’t mind a train whistle.
We have traveled across the country a few times in the last year and are always looking for a good place to stay near Atlanta. We've found it! We absolutely loved our time at McKinney Campground on Allatoona Lake in Acworth, GA. It only took about 40 minutes to drive to the city. The sites are spacious and level. The bathroom near our sites were good with hot water and heat. Our site was water and electric #128.
The corps of engineers did an amazing job designing this place, with hundreds of campsites on the lake, all of which have privacy. We got the last lake site available and it is still so beautiful. The bathroom was 100 yards up the hill and clean. We were on a quiet little cove with deep water. Across the lake there are 2 marinas and a railroad bridge, so it isn't super quiet during the day if you had an open water campsite, but I think the views make up for that. Many campsites like ours on quiet coves. Electric and water are good, two cleanouts at dump station. Based on my morning walk, I think that site 95 is as good as you could get, but literally any lake site here is really good. Great place!
Beautiful campground, spots are nicely paved, relatively deep, and well maintained. Plenty of space between spots.
Had a blast first camping trip of the 2022 season! We loved it! It was cold (one of the coldest weekends in ga) but we got to see snow on this trip! (even though it was just a light dust) It was a quiet peaceful stay, definitely would camp here again!
Plenty of water front sites for tents and RVs. The bathrooms are kept clean but (typical for COE campgrounds) they do not provide soap to wash your hands, so be sure to bring your own. The newly renovated dump area is badly set up, however. 2 stations in line rather than side by side, and close enough together that the person dumping in front must pull forward pretty far or the person at the second dump won't be able to reach. They've also ground off the threads on the flush hoses so you can't use them for black tank flushing.
Nice site, private lot, lake view. Had deer near RV in the mornings. Good price, bathrooms dirty the only complaint.
This is a very newbie-friendly park on a pretty lake. The attendants were great and responsive. The spaces are well-equipped. My spot was 38 and had a brand new huge picnic table. It also had a fire ring, though I was told I could use my own portable fire pit. There was a very clean, well-equipped sanitary dump station. The water hook- up had one quirk I didn’t know about in that it had to be pulled up twice. I had wonderful neighbors who showed me the trick. It was my first time, and my neighbors actually helped me with everything, including a fast exit due to impending really bad weather. I’ve already booked a second trip. Also, for walkers/joggers, the paved road inside the campground is (almost) one mile and relatively flat. Beautiful views. Great friendly campers, very dog friendly. A wonderful experience.
The guy at the gate was nice I guess. It’s definitely not quiet unless you’re in an RV. And I guess we camped on the wrong morning too because they started mowing the lawn at around 8:30-9 am after listening the highway all night. 10/10 do not recommend tent camping here
We visited during Autumn while the leaves were changing. Very relaxing. The sites were far enough away from each other to have a little bit of privacy—you weren’t able to hear conversations from other campers. Some sites are by the lake and others are farther back in the woods. Gravel pad suitable for RV or tent camping. Easy, quick getaway from the city.
It’s a nice campground, right on the water and very beautiful. Clean sites, easy in and out. friendly deer, Biggest problem I’ve ever had there is every time we get there we walk up to check in and they holler out “don’t bring the dog near the building”
Lake Allatoona is great for all water sports. Miles of shoreline so you can still get away. Campsites are spacious where none are poor ones. Lots of deer graze all times of day. My only complaint are the camp hosts. They are not friendly at all. Very strict with their check in rules. If you don’t follow them exactly they will turn you away to the back of the line. So beware.
Great place
all sites have water and electric. A few have full hook ups. Sites are large and well placed. Many aItea wIth lakevIew tI choose from. Always see deer and other wild life.
We LOVE McKinney Campground. Stayed multiple times. Check out pictures and a longer review of multiple sites on the link. https://imaginecamper.com/category/mckinney-campground/
Every single plot had a beautiful view, plenty of space and power hookup, water etc. I've only camped with a tent, it's hard ground but loved it.
We always stop here on our trips down to florida and we always stay a couple days as we love to get a waterfront site and they are nice , clean sites with lots of shade and pet friendly. We love to fish and we always catch several kinds but the crappie are so delicious.
Campground Review: This campground is an excellent place to stay not far outside of the bustling metropolis of Atlanta. If you want to camp instead of a hotel, believe me, you need to stop here instead of trying to find something safe and camp-worthy closer to the city. You're really close to the water and also to other outdoor excursions here. You're also just a hop away from food, gas, and anything else you might need. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gear Review: As a Dyrt Ranger, I also get products to test and review in the field. I recently received a Mountain Khaki Rodeo Short Sleeve Shirt to test out. I absolutely love it, and here's why...it works for everything. You see, although I'm an essentialist, I also have various needs for my business and outdoor adventures. Professionally, I'm a conference speaker. I simply throw a blazer over this shirt and it works. Even though it works fine for dressier moments, I wanted to try it outdoors to see if it functioned there as well. I wore the shirt on a hike up a mountain near this campground, Kennesaw Mountain. It worked beautifully. No chafing, and it felt as soft and comfortable as my exercise shirts. Oh, did I mention that it was also 95 degrees outside. To truly test it, I let it dry overnight and wore it the next day to a conference. It didn't even retain the body odor from the hike. I know, I'm a weirdo for doing this, but I wanted to test it out.
Georgia Veteran’s Memorial State Park, McKinney Campground on Allatoona Lake (north of Atlanta; a Corp of Engineer park) - very woodsy and a nice lake. Hiking, rafting/etc, and walking all around. Very green in the summer!
